**2015 MLB Season Thread: This is how the chapter ends (1 Viewer)

Stole this from a comment over at FanGraphs:

If you took away all of Harper’s singles/doubles/triples for 2015, he’d have a .000 BABIP. But he’d still have a .300 OBP and a .459 SLG.

Another Bryce Harper Fact™: he currently has a 221 wRC+ in 200 PA’s. The last time a player not named “Barry Bonds” finished a season with 200+ PA’s and a 206+ wRC+? 1957.

MINOR LEAGUER HAVING MAJOR NIGHT

Derek Fisher is a member of the Astros' farm system, plays in the high-A California League and he's on fire tonight. Fisher is 4-for-5 with 3 homers, two grand slams, a bases-loaded double and TWELVE RBIs -- and it's only the 7th inning.

Mike Montgomery anyone?
I remember back when he was a top prospect. Five years later he's finally getting some decent AAA results. TINSTAAPP.

He's had some injuries, lost some velocity and probably doesn't have a ton of upside at this point. Could maybe be worth streaming when he pitches in Safeco.

You lost the first game of the DH and this is the lineup you trot out there for game 2?

@mlblineups: 6/2 @Dodgers GM 2 lineup vs COL

Pederson CF

Hernandez 2B

Gonzalez 1B

Grandal C

Ethier RF

Callaspo 3B

Rollins SS

Heisey LF

Greinke P

I hope this team misses the WC by a game.

Guerrero to the rescue

Quite a line for Cashner tonight ...

4.2 IP, 11 H, 6 R (5 ER), 0 BB, 12 K

By my math, that's a tidy .909 BABIP.
I didn't do the math, but I think that might be low, because of his 2 non-strikeout outs, one was a caught stealing.
and one hit was a HR so 10/11
Some are saying Cashner was the first pitcher ever to give up 10+ hits with 10+ K's and not complete five innings.

And now one night later, Syndergaard also does it in the same series.

Mark Trumbo and Vidal Nuno to Seattle. In return, the Diamondbacks get Welington Castillo to fill their revolving hole at catcher, semi-useful RP Dominic Leone and a couple of prospects. The interesting guy is 21 year old Dominican OF Gabriel Guerrero who has tools but has struggled with the jump to AA this year.

ETA: Guerrero is Vlad's nephew

Had to figure a Trumbo trade was coming. He's a terrible defensive OF and was blocking Tomas. He'll be better off in the AL playing 1B/DH.

Going to a Salt Lake Bees vs. Fresno somethings next week. Carlos Correa or whatever should be there and Jon Singleton so that should be fun.

I'm sure Albert Pujols understands that it makes strategic sense to intentionally walk Mike Trout to face him instead, but I wonder if on an emotional level he can't quite get past the realization that it makes strategic sense to walk someone else to get to him.

I got dibs on your Carlos Correa signed ball

Not sure why Oakland's AAA affiliate is in Nashville, when the Mets' affiliate is in Vegas and Houston's is in Fresno. Surely some sort of trade could be worked out.

I guess that is rhetorical, but I have wondered about these geographies before. I assumed that there was some business idea behind it, like building fans in other places. Or maybe just looking for the most populous available city to drive revenue.

The Phillies used to have a bunch of teams in North Carolina (though maybe that was also partly for weather). At one point they had a team in Bend, Oregon for god knows what reason. Now they are all within a 90-minute drive, except for the Florida State league. It certainly makes more sense for calling players up and maybe being able to centrally control your organizational development philosophy.

The Giants' AAA affiliate was in Fresno for years. In fact, when Frosty posted about the Grizzlies game, I assumed he'd get to see Travis Ishikawa. I still am surprised when the Yankees bring a player up from Scranton rather than Columbus.

Some of the low level affiliates are owned directly by the parents but most teams (and all teams at the AAA and AA levels) are independently owned operations with agreements with big league clubs. The contracts come up for renewal periodically and teams can shuffle. Sacramento cast their lot with the Giants when their PDC with the A's expired. I've heard the reason why the Mets got stuck with the Las Vegas franchise is because they were offering inferior commercial terms and Vegas was the last chair available when the music stopped.

I guess minor leaguers are used to moving every year anyways but it must be disorienting for a local fanbase to have an entirely new cast turn up wearing the home uniforms.

The nearest minor league team to me is South Bend, which has an odd history. They started as the South Bend White Sox and just this year became the South Bend Cubs... but in between spent 20 years as a Dbacks affiliate.

South Bend does seem like a strategic spot for a Chicago team to keep prospects nearby and lure Indiana fans, but the same could be said for a lot of the Midwest League.
