The only downside with this is that the person going 2nd has a pretty big advantage. Pujols was the only one who hit 2nd that didn't advance. And he didn't miss by much.

 
Since we're in dullsville week, any recs. for baseball podcasts? Fantasy OK, :nerd: -centric OK too. I tried Effectively Wild by Lindbergh's voice is weak to the point of distraction.

They do a show every day, but they have at least 6, maybe 8 rotating hosts.. Friday is always dynasty/prospect focused and Thursday usually has a DFS angle.

Although I would say that the Mon-Wed shows are probably not necessarily for people in super deep leagues. They talk more about guys who are on the fringe in like 12-team leagues, though sometimes mix in guys that would only be relevant in like 16+ team or AL/NL-only leagues.

I think that even the most pessimistic/cynical people about SD thought they'd be around .500, and maybe if everything broke right they could've gotten a WC. I would've granted that. But this is worse than anyone thought it'd be.

Jazyleri's point about how they just needed to stay the course was spot-on, IMO.

The knife-twist is how well a lot of the players that they traded away are doing.

ESPN, desperate to show their little how far did it fly marker, missed countless swings of the bat. Completely incapable of keeping up with the pace the switch between cameras almost felt like There was a disconnect in the time. They also missed some action because MLB appeared to have no interest in waiting for ESPN to come out of commercial break before the next batter started.

There were also some odd / unannounced switches between Ravich and Berman.

And taking 2 minutes to mic up Junior had to have Berman steaming.

Hopefully gump gives us a rundown on how it was at the park. Can't imagine it being a letdown.

I was there and the place was electric. I've been at most of the big moments in that stadium, and I don't know if I've ever seen it like last night.

One of the weird dynamics was everyone telling us all day we would be cancelled and crazy thunderstorms all afternoon. From the minute the gates opened, perfect weather. 1140pm lightning storm. Amazing weather window.

Going tonight, should be fun.

Agreed...electric is a good description. Like a college football atmosphere.

Not sure how much you could hear on TV...but the best moments were obviously ToddFather and the crowd cheering loudly every time Pederson hit a pop up.

From a comparison sake, everyone I talked to who'd seen Hamilton in NY and a few even McGuire in Fenway all said this was the best HRD they'd been to.

Not a ton of bombs. I think the hitters park and the time limit format played a part in that.

Great experience...topped off by getting to meet ToddFather after the HRD at our post-party. Pederson was also there and was an ###...Frazier couldn't have been nicer.

MLB franchises are like large cargo ships, you can't simply just turn one around in a short amount of time. Traditionally, GM's get at least a few years to get things going in the right direction, and maybe Preller can save his job by selling off Upton (the one that people want) etc., and essentially starting over...with a worse payroll and farm system than before.

Rationally speaking though, you're right, he should swing for this.

 
Will get a kick out of Cincy if they deal Chapman. Maybe they'll trade him for an elite arm who they can develop into a starter.

Wish someone would trade for Chapman, at a closer price, and tell him he's a starter now. Deal with it.

I don't think he can survive starting and he's too expensive in both price and prospects to deal for just to experiment. It would be fun though. I don't think he gets moved. I think they wanted to keep Cueto and trade smaller pieces like Leake, Byrd, Parra but the standings almost have to change the Cueto plan.

Elite farm system is laying it on pretty thick. The Padres had decent organizational depth and were in better shape than they'd been in recently, but none of the prospects they dealt were top 20 guys at the time.

Trea Turner probably ranks up there now but last winter he was a 1.13 pick with a half season of A ball behind him.

 
In 2014, B/R's prospects writer had SD at #9, Fangraphs had them at #8 (start of 2014). Law had them at #9 in 1/14. #18 in 1/15 (before the Kimbrel disaster).

Quantity of lottery tickets is as important as the quality, maybe even moreso.

Law's midseason rankings have Turner at 16 and Ross at 28.

They were #65 and #96 respectively in Baseball America's pre-season list. Matt Wisler was the highest ranked Padre at #34.

Still not elite IMO

 
Not to imply that I'm sort of hyper-masculine bro with no appreciation for anything of an aesthetical nature, but I have no earthly idea what makes a good or bad uniform.

I'm just referring to domestic production v overseas...higher quality stitching, etc.

No other pro or college jerseys are manufactured domestically.

MLB is also the only full-button front.
