Mets just loaded the bases in the top of the 17th. Cardinals intentionally walked Murphy with a runner on first and two outs to get to the pitcher's spot. DeGrom pinch-hits, and draws a walk after a 1-2 count.

What the hell is going on in SoCal? Rainouts today in Anaheim (first since 1995) and San Diego.

Was out there last week and while it was pleasant (in the 70s basically the whole time), the drought was pretty evident.

depends on how you are defining it, but Verlander is probably close. Owed $140 for this year through 2019. I would guess that there is a better chance that Cano re-gains some semblance of his form.

In the first two years of his deal JV returned a 4.8 and a 2.8 WAR. Ryan Howard is a cumulitive -2.1 in his 4th year of a $125 mm contract. So one more decent JV year and nothing woukd still end up being a better deal than Howard. So that has to be the worst current contract in baseball, at least JV and Cano have a chance to recover.

Matt Cain's contract doesn't look too great either. Giants still owe him at least $60mm through 2017 and that's with a $7.5mm buyout for '18.

On JV I find it weird that people are so quick to forgive Cano all of a sudden because he has acid reflux. JV had core surgery before 2014 and is just returning this year from arm issues. Seems like recovering from core surgery might be a little tougher than getting over acid reflux, but I'm no doctor...

the team is an absolute embarrassment and i do feel bad for their fans. They're gonna screw that rotation up and not win a thing. Mark my words

The funny thing is I think a trade for Zobrist, for them, would probably be a bad idea. But because of the players they'd give up and not the money, obviously.

Pursuing him in FA (which I'm sure they won't do) would be a much wiser play in the long-run. And not signing any more Cuddyers.

 
I know they are a good team right now I'm just saying i feel like they have the potential to be the best team in baseball. I guess they are not there yet but man look out next year

They're all rookies, and they look like it, a lot.

There's a ton of hype and noise around Bryant, but when you watch the team every day you see how many at bats he gives away with early count pop ups on pitcher's pitches. Same thing with Soler, but he's usually swinging at sliders he couldn't hit with an oar. Russell is super slick at second, but he can't figure it out at the plate yet either. They've been terrible offensively for most of the season.

Rizzo carried them for a while, but he's been ice cold.

 
Haven't really done a deep-dive on this but I think the Cubs SP's have gotten lit up pretty good on the games where Schwarber has started at C, I wonder if his game-calling/framing is giving back all of the runs he's creating with his bat. SSS.

Nah.

In the games he has caught, they have given up 4, 5, and 4 runs.

One of the 4 run games was a 13 inning affair.

Strop came in and #### the bed in the first game he caught, giving up 2 runs in the 8th.

Other game was Clayton Richard starting - who kinda sucks really bad.

Yeah that's scary. Fernandez obviously felt horrible. Glad Peralta got up on his own, not sure how ballplayers recover from that. I remember getting hit by a 85 mph fastball in High School and I was gun shy at the plate for awhile. And I got hit in the neck, not the face or head.

i quit playing little league at the age of 9 after getting hit in the face by a pitch. I also sucked so there was that but ill never forget it.Also my brother get hit in the nose and broke his nose on a pitch in Division I college and he said he was never the same after that.

Pitches are being called from the dugout when he catches. He hasn't looked "stabby" or anything receiving the ball to me either.
