The Pats have been to 6 Super Bowls over the last 15 years. How many RBs have they taken in the 1st round over that span, let alone shedded draft picks to obtain? Here's a hint, it's a nice round number with a hole in the middle of it, and is the same number as the number of Super Bowls the Chargers have played in over that same time span.If only it was that simpleVince Wilfork: 2 NFL Championshipsbicycle_seat_sniffer said:Addressed a glaring need.

And here I thought Bill Belichick and Tom Brady were the biggest reasons NE has been so successful. I totally forgot about Maroney. Bet they wish they'd have spent that pick on something else too. Has holesgordon is a beast
what's the current state of the line, or do we need to wait 'til saturday pm?
franklin LG and fluker RT?
is watt your C --- how do you like him?
edit: did ohrnberger start ahead of him because he was needed at RG or because he sux?
yep, this is most likely explaination.i have a feeling they had to outbid another team trying to move upGave up a lot.
Watt is probably garbage. It was one of the worst run blocking lines in the league last year. They may have a shot improving all the way up to below average (at best) this year. But I'm not planning on it.gordon is a beast

I always say it's the sign of a gm having great offseasons when almost every position is a need. You guys piss all over every pick?? Lb was a need. Dline a need. Oline a need..
Way better. Dayne was a compiler. Great for the program but nowhere near the talent of Gordon.Wait... better than Ron Dayne?!I'm not anti-Badger by any means. I would have been much, much happier if they would have traded down and drafted Rob Havenstein in the middle of the draft.Pipes said:Serious question since you are so negative but did you watch any Badgers games last year? Early down player only. From his NFL draft profile:Is Perryman even going to be a three down player or is this the second part time player Telesco has chosen?
The bolded underlined text is my emphasis but shows he likely will not play on passing downs.STRENGTHS Burly, stout, old-school linebacker build. Wants to hit and brings his pads with him when he delivers a blow. Delivers a jarring punch into oncoming offensive linemen on second level. Defends his area of turf and sees past blockers, keeping his eye trained on the play. Is able to disengage and shed blockers. Plays low and with leverage. Once he diagnoses, can trigger into gaps and disrupt. Expected to be productive special-teams player at the next level.
WEAKNESSES Not a twitchy athlete. Takes time to gear up after changing directions and can struggle to tackle jitterbug runners in space. Heavy-legged mover in space and struggles to make plays outside of his assigned area. Lacks coverage traits and is a liability in man coverage. Short levers won't allow him to leverage blockers as a pass rusher. Slow to get off his spot and burst laterally, which causes him to miss some tackle opportunities.
DRAFT PROJECTION Round 2 or 3
SOURCES TELL US
"He's physical and plays angry at the point of attack. He's the type of guy you like having on your team because he brings toughness to practice. He's going to lay the wood to ball carriers when he gets a chance but college teams were already finding ways to go after him in the passing game." -- AFC East regional scout
"I have a little higher grade on Perryman than I probably should, but we like thumpers and badasses inside and he's both." -- AFC director of scouting
NFL COMPARISON D'Qwell Jackson
BOTTOM LINE
Early down linebacker who can make plays against the run but will struggle if isolated in coverage. Perryman is a lunch-pail worker who enjoys the physical part of the game. Can be a highly productive NFL player but ceiling looks to be limited.
You sound confused. Signing Butler to a high priced extension was part of the great offseason Telesco had in the recent past. Replacing Butler with Perryman because Butler is a stiff is part of the great offseason Telesco is currently having. I hope this clears up your confusion.I don't doubt that Perryman will be an upgrade on Butler, but that is a low bar. Butler has been the worst LB in the NFL since Telesco gave him the big contract.
As you know, I am not confused. I have not accused Telesco of having any great offseasons so far. I think he has done some good things for sure, but I think he has also made a number of bad decisions. I think the jury is very much out on his performance as Chargers GM. And IMO he is not improving it with this draft. You sound confused. Signing Butler to a high priced extension was part of the great offseason Telesco had in the recent past. He'll be a two-down guy, which could conceivably keep him out of the Hall of Fame, but it won't stop him from making a big impact (literally) when he's on the field. Is Perryman even going to be a three down player or is this the second part time player Telesco has chosen?
Maybe, but at 330 Phillips might have made an even more literal impact on the field. He'll be a two-down guy, which could conceivably keep him out of the Hall of Fame, but it won't stop him from making a big impact (literally) when he's on the field. Is Perryman even going to be a three down player or is this the second part time player Telesco has chosen?
Not if Phillips is horrible and Perryman is awesome. I think it's silly for any of us to say that this second-rounder is better than that second-rounder on draft day. I do the "every player the Chargers draft will be an All-Pro" shtick just to balance out the opposite view (which unfortunately doesn't seem to be shtick). But it will take a few years for any of our opinions on these players to count for anything.Maybe, but at 330 Phillips might have made an even more literal impact on the field.
Spikes would be fine as a stop-gap ILB, but he's not going to play special teams like Perryman will, and his upside and expected longevity are lower.Honestly I just think you could sign Spikes for $1mil to be a 2-down run stuffer and he's already proven he can do it on the pro level.
True, but I think it's fair to point out that a guy like Fisher would make a positive impact in all aspects of the offense, both runs and passes while Perryman will have an impact on run defense. Not if Phillips is horrible and Perryman is awesome. It can be. I was impressed when they moved on from Cox for instance. But when you are moving on from several moves you make in a great offseason it makes you question just hiw great an offseason that actually was.You say that like admitting mistakes is a bad thing.
It's a hugely positive thing.
