Player option Year 2 No 3rd year.

Dwyane Wade has agreed to a two-year, $47.5 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.
Wade's stunning decision to return to his home town of Chicago, spurning the franchise he spent 13 years with while winning three championships, reportedly stemmed from acrimonious free agent negotiations with Pat Riley and the Heat. The Bucks and Nuggets were also pursuing him but he wasn't able to secure a guaranteed third season in any scenario, so he opted for a two-year deal with a player option in the second year. Chicago's rebuilt lineup will presumably start Rajon Rondo, Wade, Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson and Robin Lopez, but they'll need to fill out the bench after trading Mike Dunleavy and Jose Calderon to clear salary cap space. Wade's gaudy usage rate is sure to fall in Chicago, bumping him down a round or two for fantasy purposes.

Should be interesting to say the least to see how Wade fits in with Rondo  Rondo off the ball is a disaster.

Was hoping the Bulls wouldn't sign Wade. Even before Wade, there was a lot more offensive firepower in Chicago than Miami (I don't see Bosh doing anything but prolonging the clock for Miami to get medialcap relief). Thought they'd be vastly improved just moving from Rose to Rondo which would let Mirotic/Portis/McDermott shine offensively. Wade's obviously a great improvement over Rose, but with the same inability to shoot from the perimeter and high usage (and less opportunity for the 3 youngs), the same concerns exist. I definitely didn't see the Bulls needing Wade's offense.
My guess is Rondo is traded as soon as possible (Dec 15th or something?). He absolutely doesn't fit with Wade and Butler and even for as mediocre as Wade has been for the last couple years, he is a far superior player to Rondo.

Rondo only had two free agent suitors (Chicago and Brooklyn, allegedly). If he flames out in Chicago his next stop is overseas.

That's probably a good point. It does look like there are going to be a few teams under the minimum, so they might be able to dump him and a 2nd. If he would behave, which why he only had two suitors, he would be a nice upgrade for the Nuggets' backup PG.

Dragic, Winslow, and whiteside feels like a nice 8 seed.
Josh Richardson was the most improved played during the season. He ended up shooting 46% from downtown for the season, after being send to d-league in December. He and Winslow are good defensive players. They need another ball handler and shooter. And Winslow's offense need to make a quantum leap.

Remember when Riley was a genius just a few short years ago? And now he lost both Lebron and Wade.
He sold out the future for 2 NBA titles. Most fans would settle for that. He's the Godfather.

If Bosh retires due to health, the Heat gets his cap space for 2017-2018. If Dragic and the young players show signs of life this season, it could be an attractive place again for a big name like Durant. Or Westbrook. Riley can atone for his mistake in taking Beasley over Westbrook back in 2008.

Agree with your first paragraph. Don't think there is anyway the second happens.

Remember when Riley won multiple titles with LAL and managed Kareem taking a back seat to Magic without having to trade either one?

Remember when Riley got NYK back to the Finals for the first time in over 20 years installing a system completely different from what he ran in LAL?

Remember when Riley took over the bench midseason and led MIA to the franchise's first title?

Remember when Riley staged the greatest free agency coup in league history, setting up the franchise for four straight Finals appearances and winning two more titles?

Riley was enormously successful with three different franchises across three different eras and installing three different systems.  He's one of the greatest minds in the history of all professional sport.  No one could have stopped LeBron from going home, and I'm not going to criticize Riley for refusing to overpay Wade just because some other team is stupid enough to give him his asking price.

Thanks for an awesome 12 years Dwyane Wade, thanks for 3 wonderful Titles, thanks for bringing your friends here to compete for those championships, and I hope you find what you feel you need at this point in your career.

I can't explain why he would want to play in Chicago right now but if that's what he feels like doing then good luck to him.

Wade's VORP is on a pretty consistent downward glide path since 2009: 9.7, 8, 5.7, 3.4, 3.5, 1.9, 1.6, 1.6. Best case, you get 3.0 VORP out of him over the next two seasons? Wade's getting close to being completely mummified, but realistically, $20mm is a pretty woeful overpay.

One of my favorite Wade moments in a Heat uniform - a dunk over Anderson Varejao. He is the best shot-blocking guard ever not named Jordan. Early in his career, he was the closest thing to Jordan.

I'm a little in shock still, 1st reaction is simply Thank You Wade but then you start thinking about it and the domino effect.

1. Wade was complete money in crunch time and still is. I don't know how many wins it will cost the Heat this season but Wade was a closer, better said is Wade won a ton of games for the Heat and arguably took them on his back down 0-2 and looking like they would be swept to suddenly winning it all and becoming a team or place where players truly wanted to play.

2. I agree with whoever posted that Miami will shed some contracts and do whatever is necessary to become a premier destination this next off season. In some ways it might be easier without Wade and he might be doing us a favor. It hurts but he has been playing for 13 years, how much longer can he go with the wear and tear and being the Wade he has always been? In 2012-2015 he was inured a lot and seemed limited, his chances of playing 70+ games again next year are not that high IMO.

I don't think Bosh is going to retire and give up on a fairly nice contract although $18-$20M or whatever he signed for per year seem like peanuts right now. Dragic can be traded as well, $18M a season he gets, again a steal in this market right now.

3. For the fans it is rough because they didn't know they were watching Wade's last game or season, it was one of the best in recent memories if you are judging just Wade, obviously the titles were a lot more fun.

Call me crazy but we still have Riley and while he is getting old I still think he will figure out a way and quickly to get this team back to a top 3-4 seed.

Bottom Line: Nobody is beating the Warriors this year. Most teams should try to be thinking 3-4 years down the road. Of course KD can opt out quickly in GS, not saying the Heat would be his ticket but if Miami can get young talent and plenty of cap space, premier players will want to come here and compete and be part of something new. it felt like we were still trying to hang on to some glory from 2012 and 2013, that's history and it would be best if folks would get in the mind set of moving forward. Other teams in Miami have suffered from no forward thinking. The difference with the Heat is they still have the Godfather running the ship and everyone makes a mistake but his are always countered with Championships and he has been part of many.

Riley will hold a press conference and that will be interesting to hear.

With finds like Whiteside and Tyler Johnson, who needs the draft.
I believe the Heat won the D League, maybe there are a couple more diamonds in the rough. My brain says Tyler Johnson should not be retained but i think the Heat need to pay him for the next year or two and see what happens. I know it could get ugly year 3 and 4 of that poison pill deal but he showed a lot of flash when he was healthy. Johnson is not going to replace Wade in any way, in fact I'm not sure he can play the 2G spot but we now have a rotation of Dragic, Josh Richardson, assume Tyler is signed so decent 1-2-3 for the Guards and then you have Whiteside and Bosh at the 4-5, this isn't as bad as it seems but then it's a long way away form where we were in 2012.

Bosh is getting that money either way playing whether he plays or is forced into medical retirement.

If he doesn't step on the floor again, his contract comes off the cap summer of 2017. If he steps onto the court in 2016-17. The clock starts over and it'd be well after Summer 2017 til any cap relief.

The decision isn't in his hands. If Heat docs won't clear him, he won't be playing (at least for the Heat......and it'd take another team's doc to clear in order to even look into trading him). Doubt it's the last time we hear about this.

I didn't know that, good info. I did know if he retired or didn't play heat get some cap relief but I thought that meant Bosh was not getting the last 2 years. Good for him and part of me says please sit out Chris and let's become the team with the most cap space and go after the next big superstar.

Listening to podcasts, seem like everyone thinks this coming season will be a ratings juggernaut.  I see the opposite.

Have never been less excited for a season.

But people initially will want to see the dumpster fires that some franchises are cementing themselves into for the next 3-5 years.

I agree though that the shine of the GS team has worn off and a lot of folks won't enjoy watching it. I can see fans wanting to root against them now and if they should falter as the Heat did Year 1, the vultures will appear in droves.

Seems like the 2016/2017 Champion has already been crowned. In fact we could be talking several years before anything else emerges as a true threat or new dynasty, might be 2020 before the NBA gets good again.  ;)

It's just lame.  Like when you see a youth league where one team stacked and they annihilate everyone because the parents rigged it.  Where is the competitive spirit?  Sportsmanship?

These guys getting maxed out regardless.  Not a money thing.  You going to tell me this was better for Durant's brand?  I doubt it.

I blame GSW too.  Curry, Klay, Dray and Kerr.  Weak sauce.

I'm pretty sure "competitive spirit" is what is driving this. It's this weird thing about being competitive that makes competitors want to win.
It was moreso to tough for Durant.  You up 3-1 and lose?  Heartbreaking.  Your team improves in offseason.  Then you leave?  This isn't hard to decipher.

You're right it's not a money thing...it's about winning. I think Agent Zero's IG post sums it up pretty well:

Sounds like an idiot.

KD gonna chase R. Horry for ring total.

KD may not even have the impact Horry did.  Lot of Horry teams not winning a ring without his contribution.

Horrible.

Micky Arison might want to slow down on the social media stuff for a bit.

Read some of the comments and mind you this was taken while he knew Wade wasn't coming back, priceless. I'm sure many are not even actual Heat fans but funny nonetheless.

Yeah, I wouldn't run around touting that as some great defense of The Decision II unless you enjoy being embarrassed like one of those grown men who fancies dressing up like a baby and let's people film him and put it on television.

Then again I saw all the hashtags and didn't bother reading it.
It's a tough read, but he makes valid points.
