I wouldn't trade the Brooklyn pick for 1 season of Westbrook straight up. I certainly wouldn't throw in a young all star along with it.

To clarify, the Celtics should only make that trade if Westbrook agrees to a long term contract.  If he doesn't, I would still give them the Brooklyn pick but wouldn't include Thomas.

If he'd sign long term you give up a lot I agree.  Probably Thomas & Brooklyn pick.  Maybe more, but honestly if he'd agree to sign long term he'd likely sign once he got to FA.  That's why NY didn't have to give up that much for Melo even though he was about as close of a comparison as we have for a Westbrook trade.  I think he's almost certainly going to LA anyway so it's probably all moot.

Sorry to tell you, but I'm actually quite close to landing that job.

As I said, I would give up the '19 pick.  The '18 would probably be harder to do.  For the reasons I laid out, I don't think that it is that hard for Boston to re-load even without the '19 first-round pick and I am just not going to worry about a player like Isiah Thomas (who is good but not great) for the chance at getting a top 5 player's Bird rights.  Obviously, it would depend on what else OKC really wanted and I would not do this for just every team, but I think that Boston is in a unique situation.

 
Portland is going to have about $48m per year for the next four years tied up on Evan Turner, Crabbe, and Meyers Leonard. I think they may be the leader in the clubhouse for worst offseason.

 Exactly.  The "ice in my veins" stuff is a bit over the top, but the kid just turned 20, so some silliness is to be expected. But as a Laker fan, seeing Russell assuming some of the void that Kobe left is encouraging.  

Disclaimer/warning: Laker homer and optimist view below.

Despite the inconsistently and growing pains, D'Angelo made 130 3's last year as a 19 yr old.  The elite vision was as advertised. Defensively he has to improve, but I think he makes a big leap overall this year. He should excel in Waltons system.  

Ingram and Randle are wild cards.  They have the next two years to develop into big time talents.  If they can approach their ceilings, the future is extremely bright, as Nance Jr. is going to open a lot of eyes this year and Clarkson is a competent scoring guard.  Zubac is another wild card, but at worst he looks like a future 2nd team center.  

Thats 6 young rotation players, all 24 or under, with several of those pieces having massive ceilings.  Add Deng, hopefully a healthy Mozgov, and Westbrook next summer and that's a competitive 9 man rotation.

I think Turner is actually going to play up to that contract.  He just seems like he's getting close to it.  But I know that's very minority and I'm probably going to be proven wrong on that one.  But just watching the kid, there sure seems to be something there.

Portland has never been able to attract big free agents.  They have to draft well to be competitive.   They have a solid young core and I personally like Turner and Crabbe.

Turner is only passable in a very specific role he probably won't get to play in Portland, and Crabbe was a nice underrated rotation player. Now he's being paid above average starter money as someone who had a career high 12 PER last year. 

 
It doesn't matter if he is a rental, teams are going to have to pay or the Thunder will take their chances on resigning him. Think about it, this is Westbrook's team now, he is going to love that.

 
Sixers are going to be stacked over the next few years. Lakers pick next year, Kings pick swap next year, Kings pick in 2018. Thank you Hinkie  :wub:

Technically, Lakers pick is protected 1-3 next year, then unprotected in 2018.

The Kings' pick is in 2019.

And the protection on the swap is confusing to me:

Bulls already had rights to the pick (top 10 protected).

Yeah lakers should not finish in the top 3, my guess is top 10 so the sixers get that pick, the Kings should finish in the top 5 so the Sixers then swap 1sts. The future is bright in Philly! 

 
I'm sorry to see Timmy go. I've been really lucky to follow him his entire career with the franchise. He's been my favorite player of all time and pretty much the only reason I've watched the NBA these last 10 years . I would have liked another championship but 5 is plenty, I suppose. Interesting to see what the team looks like without him as the bedrock.

 
In this day and age, will we ever see another Tim Duncan? A guy who didn't really care to be in the spotlight, didn't say much, and just went about his business. All while being one of the best ever to play his sports.

I remember as a kid not liking Duncan because he was so boring. But as I got older, I grew to appreciate his play and enjoyed watching him.

You can only swap the Sixers pick with the Kings. Unless the Sixers are a ton better this year, it's unlikely the swap is worth anything.

I would have to strongly disagree with you there. And you will be able to make a lot of money in Vegas if you are right about that given where their respective over unders will end up.
