I don't see the KG "Making the Band" story posted here yet, so here it is:

Tyronn Lue: A lot of people do all their howling on the court and they're faking just for attention, but what he does is genuine. So one day we were at his house and we were watching Puff Daddy's show 'Making the Band,' and in one of the scenes, some new guys came in and were trying to sing and were trying to compete against the guys who had been there. And KG just got so hyped, 'Motherf----r, you've got to stand up for yours! You've got to fight! Motherf----r, you've got to come together!' He's going crazy, he's sweaty. And he just head butts the wall and put a hole in the wall of his house.

A detective from the LAPD has confirmed that there is an active criminal investigation against Derrick Rose.
The original lawsuit was civil and just for money, but this latest report means that Rose could be in serious trouble. Rose’s attorney Mark Baute had previously alleged that Bradan Anand (victim's attorney) was lying about an active criminal investigation in order to extort a settlement from Rose, but that's not the case. Rose will be speaking at the Knicks' media day on Monday, so we should hear more details soon. The trial will begin on Oct. 4, meaning Rose could miss several preseason games if he doesn't settle the suit.

Heat president Pat Riley said on Monday that Chris Bosh's career with the Heat is over.
"I think Chris is still open-minded. But we are not working toward his return," Riley said. "We feel that, based on the last exam, that his Heat career is probably over." When Riley was asked if Bosh's NBA was over, he simply said that it's "up to him." The Heat sound like they are ready to move on and will have to rebuild their roster around Hassan Whiteside, Justise Winslow, Goran Dragic and Josh Richardson. While Bosh remains hopeful to play in the NBA again, fantasy owners shouldn't burn a draft pick on him until we hear some good news.

The last domino in the Big 3 to fall. I think people thought if he could play alongside Whiteside and add a few pieces you have a top 4 seed maybe, that's a pipe dream.

Can Miami lose 60 games with this team? I gotta believe it's a matter of time until we hear Dragic is gone. Only Whiteside is going to be left and I feel like his immaturity will be on full display. We kind of want them to tank the next 2 years if I understand our draft situation, yes/no? Our 1st next year is ours and then it has to be top 8 the season after? Then we don''t have another 1st round pick til 2050 or something.

I'd think Westbrook has to be the favorite ,no? If he leads that team to 47-48 wins and also leads the league in scoring, is top three in assists and is the top rebounding guard in the league (all three of which seems like foregone conclusions) he'll have a pretty strong case.  Pus I gotta think LeBron and the GS guys will take a bunch of games off.  And he's a good story for the media and the league, which never hurts.

BTW, lots of talks between Glen Taylor and KG and him having a stake in the ownership of the team @Bruce Dickinson

Nothing concrete yet, but Glen is open to it and KG is interested.
Trading for him and having him come back to finish his career in " 'Sota" makes more sense if he has a long-term role with the team like owning part of it.  I wasn't sure how much of those circumstances changed after Flip died.

Bovada has:

Westbrook +200

Curry +400

James +450

Durant +1000

Davis +1000

Leonard +1000

Harden +1600

I'd take Harden at those odds in D'Antoni's system.

Any chance for a "sleeper" team to win the NBA championship this year? Any team outside of Cleveland, Golden State, San Antonio?

Do the Clippers, Celtics, Pacers, Raptors, Thunder, Blazers, etc stand a chance?

By default I'd be looking at a team in the East in the event LeBron goes down or something.  Celtics maybe in that case.  Pacers added Teague, Al Jefferson and Thad Young among others, so maybe them too.

And obviously the Wolves and Magic.

I suppose the Celtics could if they pushed some of their chips in for Jimmy Butler or Carmelo though I think that's a really low probability event.

They need another top 20ish top player to be in the same ballpark, and I have a hard time seeing where that player would come from especially with Harden and Westbrook signing those extensions.

Without injuries or major trades, no. Least interesting season in recent memory.

It sure seems like it will take a major injury to GS for anyone else to have a realistic chance.

That said, the Clippers, if they have some magical healthy season, would have a puncher's chance against a short handed GS team, or Cleveland/SA. I don't think anyone else from that group has their upside.

This is exactly what I am thinking as well. The Clippers are who we think they are, they were team #4 imo, but they spent too much money on their guys (Crawford, Rivers) to stand a chance to make any big moves in season and still have a terrible glaring hole at SF, after what seems like forever, that this has been a need for them.

Celtics/Raptors will contend for the next best team in the East after Cleveland, but that is it. I dont think they can win a 7 game series with a healthy Lebron.

Tim Duncan will be on the Spurs' bench this season.

Role hasn't been specified.  Pop says Duncan will be "coach of whatever he wants".
All the likes in the world...I thought there was pretty decent shot that we'd never see him again.  I'm really glad he's going to stay involved in the game.

So awesome.  I mean, there are so many examples of him coaching opposing bigs on the court you have to think he'd be useful on the bench.

The Jazz are an intriguing team.  Do they have enough to win it all?  Probably not.  But I can see myself watching them on League Pass quite a bit.

I think the East will be more interesting than you make it out to be.  The Pacers could be a big factor in the East.  Let's not forget that they took Toronto to 7 games last season and really should have won that series.   Now they have a fully healthy Paul George,  Teague, Thaddeus, Big Al coming off the bench--and a more seasoned Myles Turner.    Miami just got worse with no Bosh and losing Wade--but that could open the door for a revamped team like New York making it in.   I do think that Cleveland will be a big favorite in the East--but I do think that any injury to any of their big three could open the door for teams like Boston, Indiana, Toronto to come out of the East.

And then Malik Sealy died in a car crash.  Hit head-on by a drunk driver driving the wrong ####### direction on Hwy 100.  While going home to the suburbs after Garnett's downtown birthday party.
I was born and raised in MN, graduated in 95 (same year as KG), and lived basketball my whole life.  I absolutely love the KG stories BD so keep them coming.  But man, Malik's death sucked.  Just totally deflating when it happened.

I had a buddy who was in the Wolves locker room that year on an off day and (I don't condone this) scooped for me one of KG's game wrist bands as well as a "RIP Malik Sealy" rubber band that KG wore that season (he said there were 10's of each, not that he took THE ones that KG wore).   Just makes me sad every time I see that rubber band.

Thank you for your kind words, and for sharing your KG memories.

"Deflating" is an excellent word for that feeling.  When I heard about Sealy, it felt like the air was leaving my body.  It was just so unfair.  A lot of my time in Minnesota was spent from southwest Mpls out to the west metro.   I got married at a church visible from Hwy 100 just a bit south of where the accident happened.  I'd driven that stretch of Hwy 100 where Sealy was killed thousands of times, including many times late at night taking I-394 west out of downtown Mpls to 100 south, the same route Sealy took that fateful night.

Gotta share a couple happy memories after thinking about that...

When KG was becoming the face of the franchise, they knew his super-high energy level was a selling point.  The team filmed a hype video, filmed in an empty dark gym, of KG in uniform encouraging the crowd to get up and start cheering.  There are lots of people who can go 100% when the building is filled with thousands screaming for you, but he could reproduce it in the dark.  I can still see it.  He started sitting down, but by the finish he's jumping around and throwing those praying mantis arms all over the place: (paraphrasing) "C'mon Minnesota, it's the fourth quarter, we need you to get up, get out your seats, let's go, let's get loud, let's get it hype, LET'S GET IT HYPE! LET'S GET IT HYYYYYYYYYYYYPPPPE!"
They finished the video frozen on contorted KG with some echo in that last "HYPE".  Oh man, the building went nuts when that video debuted on the Target Center scoreboard during a timeout of a close game in the 4th quarter.

------

When KG was promoted to Last Starter Introduced, his introduction tunnel shtick was clasp his hands down in front of him, make a small hop towards each bench player on his way down the tunnel, and put a shoulder into each chest along the way, like a 7-foot-tall pinball bouncing through the pop bumpers.  Different bench guys responded differently, which made it even more fun.  Some guys would lean into it, some would throw themselves backward like they'd been blocked by Randall McDaniel, some would act like the contact gave them superstrength.  As the group of guys I shared season tickets with started getting domesticated, we had a tradition at each wedding reception where we would get the DJ to put on some 2Unlimited, and the groom would get the KG Introduction Tunnel treatment, popping each of us in the chest with a shoulder, just like our hero KG.

What are peoples thoughts on the Bulls this year? They are a playoff team this year in the East right, maybe 6-8 seed, maybe just missing playoffs? They have a decent team IF everyone can stay mainly healthy, that is a huge IF. Rondo seems to like his teammates so far. Can Butler carry a team? (I think so, Wade will help with that at times). Gibson and Lopez are your hustle guys. I dont know where this team is going to get their offense from with Rondo, Gibson and Lopez all on the floor at once-better hope Butler and Wade are scoring every night.

Starters I would think: Rondo, Wade, Butler, Gibson, Lopez

Key Bench: Mirotic, McDermott, Portis, Valentine, Canaan, Grant, Snell, Felecio

I dont know how a lot of those guys are going to pan out this year, but Valentine and Felecio both played well in summer league (yea i know its summer league). Can Mirotic be more than a role player? Can any or all of Portis, McDermott, Snell and Grant make the next step? Besides injuries, that might be the key factor in this years team, that a couple of those guys along with Valentine have good years. This team might have more question marks than any other team in the league.

Over on 20 (Sixers' recent history notwithstanding, it's pretty tough to lose 62+ games) but I also feel good about the under on 27.5.

If the league removes the 3 point line, they may have a chance.

Hire a pace and space guy in Hoiberg, then give him the worst shooting starting 5 in the league.  No idea what the Bulls are doing.

Are they really starting Gibson?  That would be a bottom 5 offensive starting unit with 0 spacing and less than amazing defense. I think they have to roll out Mirotic or McDermott for floor spacing with the starters.

Overall I'm pretty low on them, but there's a lot of parity in the middle of the league this year. There are 18 teams with over / unders between 32-45 wins this year but in my mind there isn't a ton separating them. The Bulls are in there and could definitely sneak in the playoffs.

No way they hit their over/under on 38.5 wins without the ability to hit 3s in today's NBA. The starting 5 you have may be the best player at each position, but they will certainly start Mirotic at the 4 to give a little spacing. They'll also make an effort to play Rondo, Wade, and Butler as little as possible together as they are all non-shooters that need the ball to be effective. I honestly think this would be a better team if they just cut Rondo and picked up some replacement level PG that can hit a jumper and start Canaan (who sucks).

The Bulls last year didnt have many 3pt shooters though either (not that it got them too far). Maybe Dunleavy and Brooks on top of who they have this year? Rose took quite a few, but hardly made any. I think Butler, Mirotic, Dougie, Snell, Canaan, and Valentine can all stretch the floor. However, I do agree they could of used at least another shooter. You would of thought the Bulls would of looked right up the road the past couple of seasons at the Bucks ineptitude to make a 3 point shot and see where that got them.

I suppose you're right, there are shooters to be found, its just that only one of them will be starting. When Rondo, Wade, Butler and a non-shooting big are on the floor together, which will be often, other teams are going to dare them to shoot. I think you are going to see Mirotic play a good amount of center and McDermott play a bunch at PF and they are going to invert their offense with the bigs outside and Wade playing more inside, and hope that they can score enough to keep up defensively.

On top of that, I think that Wade is washed up and Rondo is a cancer who doesn't fit today's NBA.

I liked the bulls more with just rondo. Bulls have plenty of shooting. Sadly with that piece of #### now in NY no one got to see it. Unless that piece of #### wasn't playing and you saw ball movement. I don't see rondo/wade working. I'd throw one of them to 6th man if keeping them both rostered. I thought they would be +.500 before signing Wade because Rondo would be great for mirotic portis and McDermott. Not enough basketballs to go around (again) at this point.

:lmao:  I'm sure Einstein will figure it out just fine. Here's a tip #######: Dribble less.

The saddest part of the #### show NY has put together is that Porzingis is the one that'll suffer if they all stay healthy.

Derrick Rose said the triangle offense is complicated.
While the Knicks aren't expected to primarily run the triangle exclusively, Rose expressed his thoughts after the Knicks worked on it on Thursday. While saying there are "like 40 or 50 options", he added that "it's a little bit complicated right now." Rose may have some growing pains as he adjusts to his new team and system, and isn't worth anything more than a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues.

Within minutes of seeing on Twitter that Embiid is on track to start the preseason, news breaks that Simmons might have broken his foot.

I dont care what that says. I am looking for answer to my question.  Curious as to where you guys think the sixers fall.
i bet the over on that 27.5 when it opened. dropped to 25 before the sad news today, so hoping Embiid can be the monster he potentially can be this year.

 #### my life.

just saw the news and let out a very dramatic "oh my god".

My wife is very concerned. "What? What is it?!"

"the sixers number 1 draft pick broke his foot."

"oh..."

Sorry Filthy fans.  And NBA fans in general - the kid looked like an elite talent in Vegas. Just incredibly horrible luck.
