Reed vs. Rory the lead off match tomorrow
Anybody have a clue how they come up with the pairings? These can't be random. Too many perfect matches. If I am Davis Love, there is no way I want Reed facing McIlroy. I'd personally sacrifice that point and and try to guarantee myself a point with Reed vs someone else.

When do they release the pairings and times? Do the teams put in their lineups in order not knowing what the other team's order is?
You'd like to think that the two coaches could sit down and negotiate the pairings out, based on guys that fit well together either with personalities, or games or whatever. Make it the best of the fans!!

Clarke had to go big early but if they start slow it's over early...EU no depth.

I'm a golf neophyte. I'm sure people who follow the sport closely could chime in as to why it's done the current way. I am reading a book by John Feinstien about the Majors and the Ryder Cup and from that I don't know if the teams would agree on anything, pretty crazy how intense this thing is.

I was kinda kidding. I know the process is very secret and they'd never do what I suggested, I just was thinking it would be kinda fun!

Any team down 3+ points is going to front load their lineup so DL3 knew Europe's best players would be out early.  I will give Love credit because Snedeker, DJ and Koepka going out 8-10 is really smart and should set up the US well if Europe comes out strong.

I like what DL3 did also, although I do see merit in putting Reed somewhere other than vs Rory.  If Euro comes out hot, Reed is a guy I want in the middle of my lineup to energize the final push and the crowds.  It's the ultimate dice roll though, if Reed takes down Rory, it's (basically) over.

Hope I'm wrong, but we'll be lucky to go 1-3 out of the gate looking at that line up.

It is done random and as a viewer I want the matchup but if I was US captain I would not be thrilled.

I am not sure I like it. DC did front load the lineup. I am worried about the tidal wave. I would have preferred a solid stopper somewhere in the middle to swing the momentum back and I don't see it on the US lineup. Maybe I am jaded from too many kicks to groin in past Ryder Cups.

In any event, that was some amazing, awesome golf on display today. Not too many people (not looking towards Westwood) lost matches, rather they were won.

Phil, Sneds, and DJ is a pretty good looking middle-Q3.

I have zero faith in Phil. He sprays the ball all over the course. I'll give him props for nailing that par 3 tho. Great iron and the putt was dead on. I like how Sneads was playing, don't understand why he didn't play more.

Phil has a very good record over the last several Ryders.

Doesn't matter. His erratic style is better in match than stroke. A triple when your opponent pars isn't 3 shots - it's one hole.

I think Ryder Cup captains' decisions are extremely overrated. In foursomes, pair guys that play the same ball. Every singles and four-ball match is pretty close to 50/50.

Other than the Captains picks where one of the most talented players ever gets passed over.

And that guy is 3-8 lifetime in the Ryder Cup. Not taking a shot at Bubba, just saying that a single round among any of the top 30-40 players in the world is mostly a coinflip.

Agree with this, but... This course is tailor made for Bubbas game.

I get that and his polarizing persona but imagine his upside in this emotional environment. He could beat anyone while we're hoping Moore beats a guy who can't make a 3 foot putt and brings nothing emotionally to the table.  Stupid.

Reed/McIlroy 12:04 (ET) -- Rory has to win this match for Euros to win, imo.  Go Reed!  Gonna be fun to watch.
Spieth/Stenson 12:15 -- Stenson should win this easily.  Spieth way too streaky and gets down on himself too easily.
Holmes/Pieters 12:26 -- Intriguing.  Which Holmes will show up?  Pieters has been great so far.  But he won't have Rory there with him today.
Fowler/Rose 12:37 -- Expect Rose to win this easily.  This should be Bubba Watson's roster spot.
Walker/Cabrera-Bello 12:48 -- Intriguing.  Hope Walker plays better today than the previous two.
Mickelson/Garcia 12:59 -- Again, which Phil will show up?  And hopefully Sergio cools off a bit.  Doubtful though.
Moore/Westwood 1:10 -- Least interesting match of the day.  But this is a huge point that Moore needs to grab.
Snedeker/Sullivan 1:21 -- Go Sneds!
D. Johnson/Wood 1:32 -- I guess if DJ could putt better he'd face Stenson or Rose.  We need this point too.
Koepka/Willett 1:43 -- Another intriguing matchup.  Come on Brooks.  Tough match here.
Kuchar/Kaymer 1:54 -- Looks even.  Each guy can be great and each can be mediocre.
Z. Johnson/Fitzpatrick 2:05 -- I like Zack here.  Hopefully we won't need this point, but get it anyway.

We need 5 wins.  Our best bets might be Moore, Sneds, DJ, Koep/Kuch and Zack.  I hope it doesn't come down to these last few matches.

Either way, the Ryder Cup is so awesome.  Fantastic golf in a fantastic atmosphere.

Crazy since only three holes have been played (100% admit it), but from prior Ryder Cups it sure seems like one team or the other is the one that hits all the shots on the final day.  Seeing Reed drain the putt on one, Spieth hole the chip on two and RM gag the putt on the same hole could end up being an omen of things to come.

Lots of birdies already.

Im alongside the fairway up against the creek where Reed's drive just landed on #7. Perfect conditions again. It will be a birdiefest.

Greens are super fast to favor the Americans.

I wish Rory wasn't so robotic, show some emotion or something.

Fun pairing.
