There is no point to the NBA now.  The day Durant signed with GS I said that was it for as long as those 4 are together they are winning every championship.  You can't add a top 2 NBA player to a team that won 73 games and already has 3 all stars and a 2 time MVP and think anyone can beat them in a 7 game series.
Pretty much.  Imagine the Bulls signing Karl Malone after the 1995-1996 season and that is basically what the Warriors did.

Yeah, it was pretty dumb. I started getting in basketball again back when the splash brothers and the Warriors started their championship run. It was great watching them grind out team oriented basketball, hitting 3's at an unprecedented rate. Then they sold their soul and signed Durant. Can't really call myself a "Warriors Fan" anymore. I mean I'll still bet on them, but I think the whole thing was busch league by both Durant and the team.

OKC took the Warriors to 7 games with Durant. So it's not like they weren't close to being competitive. I totally get it though, getting a ring is all that matters.

That's some feat.

And this is why the Celtics have to consolidate assets.  No chance to compete just with deep good players.  You have to have elite talent to win a Championship.  Just look at the teams who have won Championships.  Nearly every single one had a top five player at the time.
maybe you haven't seen Tatum play yet, guy? <_<

I wouldn't characterize it as bush league, but I liked the team because I liked that their primary players weren't 5 star blue chip players that went to a top school and drafted in the lottery. They shot their way to greatness which was fantastic, but now that they got Durant none of these games matter. Congrats to them. I wonder how long they can keep the team together.

I hope you guys appreciated that last foul by the Rockets down 11 points with 12 seconds left to play. The O/U was 224 and that foul put the game over. Point shaving at its finest.

Embiid, Simmons, Lebron, Kawhi    you can call it the championship/All Star game

i still can't figure out the math, but wonder if adding Lebron to this Houston team puts them on the same level as GS. i have to think they sacrifice bench and maybe some other important cog, but the media speaks like it is a realistic possibility.

LeBron to HOU would for sure put them at that level if they didn't have to give up any key assets.  Going to need a #### load of talent to beat this team.  LeBron to Philly would be fun, but ultimately I think they need much more shooting to keep up.  If they signed LeBron no way they could keep Reddick as they don't have Bird rights since he signed one year deal.

i think Reddick would take a pay cut to make it work, as long as he got a fair deal. I just can't figure out how Houston makes it work and still maintains enough talent on the roster to have a dependable bench.

Orlando gets McCollum, Kawhi, and Ken Faried (-1 win)

Spurs get Jamal Murray, Jonathan Isaac, Bismack, and Tyler Lydon (-8 wins)

Portland gets Evan Fournier and Shelvin Mack (-1 win)

Denver gets Lamarcus Aldridge and Khem Birch (+2 wins)

Orlando and Denver give firsts to the Spurs and 2nds to Portland.  Win win win win.
Spurs make out like bandits.

Probably right on Reddick.  But, every year GS is going to get pick of the litter of aging high quality veterans who are willing to take less for shot of a championship.  I'd guess if Reddick was going to take a mid-level exception or some other low deal, he'd prefer GS over anything just like everyone else.

OKC fans are crying themselves to sleep tonight watching Durant and Harden go bananas.  Good grief those two are just unstoppable.
Love that OKC picked the 1 guy out of 3 who doesn't really understand how to run an NBA offense.

Why are you in this thread then?  Why does anyone watch the games?

Don't you worry your pretty little head. Brad Stevens is here to save us. The Celtics bench is a little thin right now, missing their 6th and 7th best players, but they got this.

it blows Klay wants to re-sign with GS and at a discount. really only seeing these guys get old is what will stop them. Still wouldn't trade Tatum for anybody on GS.....
Well, if GS offered Durant and Curry you have to think the Celtics would at least consider it.

Good luck in the lottery tonight to all you fans of ####ty teams.  And don’t worry, I’ve levied a curse on the Cavs and Sixers.

Two weeks ago, before the start of the conference semifinals, you could get the Warriors at +110 to win the title.

So if you're right that this is all a foregone conclusion, that means you missed a chance to make a huge amount of money, enough to make these playoffs entertaining even if we're pretty sure how it will end.  If you're wrong, then I guess there's still some excitement left in this thing.

Either way it's good stuff.

I thought Houston's coach had a good offensive mind.  Every play is just a series of isolations.  Maybe it's the Warriors D that makes them look bad, but man they look like they have to work so hard for their points.
I think that Houston is trying what the Cavs did to come back from 3 - 1 on the Warriors. Just let their 2 best players go iso ans pick and roll on every play and have the role players play defense and occasionally make a shot.

The problem is the Cavs were defending Harrison Barnes, not Kevin Durant.

I think the best chance for the Rockets is to play like the Warriors and move the ball, but I doubt they will change now and the match up we were all hoping for is going to flop.

I was multi-tasking, so I wasn't 100% focused on the game, but the one offensive set I saw Houston run where it looked like they were actually trying to run a play vs going ISO resulted in a turnover (one of the "others" coughed it up).

My general observations of the game:

  • I liked the observation at half time of the play where Harden held it for 20 seconds then chucked it to Ariza for force a shot at the end of the clock.  Jerk move.
  • Watching Harden or Paul get a screen so they can go ISO on Curry, Looney, or whoever they identify as the weak link is incredibly painful basketball to watch, but appears to be the only consistently effective way for Houston to score when GS are making their shots.
  • I don't know if it is coaching, player IQ, or what but it was enjoyable to watch GS play defense on Harden without their arms so he wasn't living at the free throw line.
  • I really don't think this series is a foregone conclusion.  Durant was unstoppable for a stretch, and it was obviously a game until the last half of the fourth quarter.  I see no reason why that hot streak couldn't be flipped at anypoint and it being Houston that goes on a run late to seal it.  I'd still wager money on GS clearly, but it's not like the lock of the century (subject to change if GS cruises to an easy victory in game 2, then Houston's fight and confidence will be crushed).

NOW i remember the Playoff D' pundits were talking about all year...............................ok, fellas, i think our best chance to beat the World Champs is to have no defensive scheme and play nothing but ISO. PJ.....Prince.....Nene, 'member all those rubs & switches & doubles we pay you for? - fuhgit dat. Cappy, m'boy....ooh, sry....those P&R alley oops that have the press talking max-extensions? We're gonna hold off on them til we really need em. The Dubs will be comin out expecting all sorts of strategic elements, but we'll show em!! On zero................................................................................yeah, OK, break i guess......

The corollary to this is that Houston needs Capela on the court to make the Green's decision in the lane problematic.  Houston's decided that Harden can take Curry or Looney 1v1.  Hoever once he get by them, there's a big difference when Green can't leave Capela versus when he can leave Mbah Moute, Nene, or Tucker.

I also think they need to at least try and run the PnR with Harden-Capela especially if Green is guarding Capela.  They really need to force Green to make hard defensive decisions and the earlier they do that in the shot clock the better since it destabilizes (to the extent it can be destabilized) the rest of GS defense.  What they were doing last night allowed GS to stay home on the shooters.

Having said that Ariza can't get into foul trouble since he's the only real mobile length they have that can even slow Durant.

Well, I think they need him on the floor, but more for offensive reasons than defense.  I didn't see him have much success against Durant (who did last night?) but he's one of the only shooters Houston has that can play off the ball.  Maybe Gordan can, but he's turrible right now.

it will be fun if at the lottery draft tonight the #10 isn't the Lakers, but if Boston gets the #2 or #3 pick it will be just filthy.

Of course if that happens we will know, for an absolute fact, that the NBA/Silver have made it their purpose to not allow the "tanking" by the Sixers to win :tinfoilhat:

ETA: funny note about the Lakers pick I almost forgot about:

"Los Angeles Lakers: That the Lakers owe this year’s pick to the Sixers is remarkable, given that it was only top-three protected each of the past three years because of the ill-fated Steve Nash trade from six years ago and the Lakers managed to finish with the second pick three years running. Now that it’s unprotected, there’s no such luck this time."
