2017 College Football Thread: Hawaiian QB devastated to find out Jesus was "kinda rooting for Georgia" (1 Viewer)

6.8M for Leavitt to stay. Crazy town.

Bunch of FSU and Oregon reporters saying a deal was done with FSU, but Oregon (knight) was so mad at Willie that they came over the top with an offer for Leavitt out of spite. Incredible.

What is that?  3 years?

That’s sort of in line for a top DC isn’t it?  It doesn’t look too outrageous to me compared to what other top guys are making. If you want to debate that he’s not a top guy, that’s fine, but he obviously had another suitor so there’s bargaining power.

I thought getting Leavitt to go with him was a condition of Taggart getting the FSU job???
I believe it was and as Cappy said Leavitt had verbally agreed to go to FSU.  However, he could not leave before bowl game like Taggart and that gave Oregon time to negotiate with him.  Huge blow to FSU.

If I am being honest, I am not sure FSU can withstand this.  They might well end up in a slump similar to the one Michigan's slowly coming out of from the RR era.  If you need anything Cappy, I'm here for you.

:)

I doubt it, but if this happened then Clemson could probably punch their ticket in the ACC every year.

You're the only one who said it was a condition. Don't you remember me telling you how insane that was and how FSU couldn't demand a new coach make a Guarantee that he brings a separate person with a separate agent and a separate contract over as condition of getting the job.

Dammit it's annoying having to spell #### out to you.

Lol. I think we will find a way to survive not getting Jim Leavitt.

I think the average power 5 DC makes 800k? Only Venables and one other guy makes more than Leavitt. Is he that good? Guess it doesn't matter since Oregon was willing to pay it.

I almost spit out my drink when I read Oregon was going to pay Leavitt basically double what Michigan pays Don Brown.

Cristobal is being paid pretty low at around $2.5 so with Taggart and his $4 leaving it was a bargain for Oregon.  I've said all along I was never impressed with Taggart it was his assistants that were the most valuable.  Now that almost all are staying it turned out great for Oregon.

It's double the $880k Brown was making last year, but I think his new deal is $1.4 million per ($7M overall over five years).

There's not another school in the nation, not even a MAC school that would have hired they guy to be the head coach. It's going to be a hilarious disaster, except I feel bad for GM.

What does any of this have to do with the overpaying for Leavitt?

Last contract I saw was 800K, then 850K, then 900K for the third year.  I must have missed something there.  Either way, that's for Don Brown.  If I were his agent I'd be POUNDING on if not blowing #### up in Manuel's office for a re-evaluation

I think that was the original deal he had entering the 2016 season, but they gave him an extension and big pay bump after last year. (Note: I can't say I know Brown personally, but I know a few people who still are very tight with him from his days here in Massachusetts.)

Leavitt is a damn fine DC.  He took Colorado from around 90th in D to 7th.  He then took Oregon from 119th in 2016 to 58th this year.  With the lower salary of Cristobal and the buyout FSU paid for Taggart they had money to up the offer to Leavitt from $1m to $1.7m.  It also shows how much they value Leavitt and perhaps how they didn't feel Taggart was worth it to beat FSU's offer.

Wasn't Brady Hoke the DC at Oregon before him?  When I read all this, it reads like whoever he followed was pretty pathetic.  And if they're that high on Leavitt, why not just hire him as the head coach?

Leavitt is a very good DC. It's highly unlikely anybody considers him a top-3 one, except the people at Oregon who clearly have no idea what they are doing.

Yes clearly.  Although they did hire Taggart who you seem to like now so you can't have it both ways

Yes, Hoke was putrid.  Leavitt was my 1st choice as head coach, Cristobal 2nd.  However, keeping both was great.  I will wait to judge Cristobal next year but keeping Leavitt was huge for Oregon.

Taggart and Leavitt were good hires. Cristobal was a great hire as a recruiting ace. Cristobal was not as as HC and they wildly overpaid Leavitt but it's all Knight's money so it doesn't really matter.

I'd take your pity as well, please.  Not joking.

Super proud of my nephew who will meet with his high school coach at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning to sign his commitment to South Dakota. He's going to redshirt next fall. The school has committed 5 years full scholarship.

Oregon should have made Leavitt the HC.  His defense had half of Oregon's points and gave the Ducks a glimmer of hope. Cristobal gives Oregon angina.

Wrong, Chip Kelly only went for 2 after the first score.  He also would call off the dogs after a comfortable lead and just run the ball every play with 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Even as a blind Oregon homer, you have to admit that Chip Kelly is a terrible person and an #######.

He's gonna run up the score on your boys for as many years as USC can stand him.  gllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
