**2017 Preseason Observations Thread** (1 Viewer)

any thoughts on Gerald Everett so far? see he has a couple catches

I thought he looked great, elite YAC ability for the position and looked explosive in his routes.

He is clearly running behind Hibgee right now and he did drop a pass that would likely not be ruled an official drop and was not an easy catch at all but  just the same did not quell any concerns about his smaller hands potentially being an issue. So not all positives but from what I saw I would have to conclude if you invested in him in a dynasty league you got to be feeling pretty good about his potential.

Golladay scores on detroit second possesion...had two nice catches....snag him in dyno...telling you
Yeah he is legit. Both catches were very difficult, really had no business catching either. The Babytron talk is real. \

1 Handed TD

Tough catch

I believe on both plays it was rookie Quincy Wilson on him.

Also A'Shawn Robinson looks like he is ready to blossom this year. He is bullying the Colts.

I haven't been watching full games, but I've been following box scores and watching highlights.

- I like how Alvin Kamara looked in the first game. I was lukewarm on him as a draft prospect, but he looks like he could pan out.

- Rico Gathers looked good for Dallas. Shades of Martellus Bennett. If you stashed him in the offseason in TE premium leagues, you might've gotten a steal.

- McCaffrey and Mixon look like they belong. Cook looks kind of small on the NFL field. Fournette was as expected: big and fast, but lacking creativity.

Cook just didn't look good...mediocre imho.  Not a fan at all and I've voiced my opinion on his overratedness in the Cook fanboy thread.  I suppose if he can stay healthy he can be a volume play but Latavius might actually be a better back at this point in time and I'm not a Latavius fan.

Mixon on the other hand...let's just hope he stops getting carries in the preseason.  He's going to win some leagues if he remains a 4th/5th round ADP.

Mixon may belong but Hill and Geno will have a big role this year, and Lewis is known for playing his veterans.  I like Mixon long term, but he is way overvalued for 2017, in redraft leagues.

The pie isn't big enough for Gollady. Even with Boldin gone when you factor in Tate, Jones, Ebron, Theo and Abdullah I don't see how he can hold much redraft value this year unless there are several injuries. The aforementioned dudes do seem to get injured a lot though.

Just looking at box scores ... anyone have eyes on Troymaine Pope?  He was a thing last preseason, and now he's in Indy and putting up some decent stats.

Maybe meaningless with Gore, Turbin, Mack ahead of him, but maybe not.

Marv j ones had been a disappointment...while you are correct galladay in redraft is probably sure fodder...keep an eye out...i wouldn't be surprised if he gets on the field a lot in 3wr sets...

Ya know I don't think I saw Marlon Mack on the field...he hurt or they keeping him off the field??

Also - Dwayne Washington ... I can't quit him. Getting buzz from his position coach about being a complete 180 from last year. I think there's a huge ceiling there if he gets an opportunity and is healthy.

I see no reason to continue holding that torch.

Why is that?  Did I miss the drafting of another RB by Detroit?

Washington was hurt last year.
Lions beat writers think Washington is on thin ice. Don't be surprised if he is cut. Agnew is doing PR and could take KR too. Ameer, Theo and Zenner are locked in. Washington only got 1 series that I saw today. Asiata got a lot more time. Asiata was pretty bad though, Washington was fine.

Oh man, don't take me down that road again. I was high on him last year. When I saw his stats today, I immediately told myself to not get sucked in again.

Was against 3rd stringers. He is at best, the 4th RB on the team.

So  2 RB's , a TE and a WR who did nothing for most of the second half of the season. That does not seem like to daunting of a pie to cut into for what projects as the teams #3 WR.

Been some buzz about Travis Benjamin in camp, how he looks healthier and faster.

Blew the doors off the Seattle secondary for a 74 yard TD.

@MikeClayNfL Just now on @SiriusXMFantasy, @caplannfl said Keenan Allen told him Travis Benjamin has the been the best WR in camp and is faster than ever

2 WRs, 2 RBs and a TE, all of whom are likely ahead of him in the pecking order save Abdullah. Yeah, that's about as daunting as it gets.

lets let this play out...he isn't a redraft asset this year...however injuries happen....and Ebron...cant count on him for anything
Oh trust me, I see the upside. But in your traditional 12-team league with 15 rounds I don't think he's worth the bench space. In ffpc where there's 20 rounds I'll be targeting him for sure. The hype is unreal right now though, I'm sure someone is going to reach before me.

He's the #3WR which means he'll be on the field with a chance to make plays and all those players you mentioned the only one not named Tate who has had over 100 targets in a season, with a max of 103, is Marvin.  That is most certainly not as daunting as it gets.

That's nitpicking

Tate had 135 targets

Jones 105 in 15 games while playing through injury

Ebron 85 in 13 games which extrapolated comes out to about 104, he had 70 in 14 games the year prior.

Riddick 67 in 10 games which extrapolated comes to out about 102, he had 99 the year prior.

I know Boldin's 95 targets are missing but his target total was buoyed by several players missing games/playing through injury. Stafford attempted 602 passes in 2014, 594 in 15 and 592 last year all under Caldwell. Factor in the number of targets that are up for grabs, how they plan to utilize each player when they're healthy and the fact that other RBs, WRs, TEs are going to chip in with some targets and I do not see how he sees enough volume to become a real fantasy asset.

Of course, I'm not talking about the hypothetical where someone gets injured or he passes up Jones on the depth chart. Those are possibilities but not something I feel comfortable predicting/projecting.

I don't agree. None of the mentioned have been red zone threats. Ebron should be but it just hasn't materialized. GM Quinn made an obvious attempt to fix the red zone issue with Golladay and the rookie TE they drafted. He's got a real opp for double digit TDs.

I agree 100% with Futz. I was targeting Golladay as a sleeper because of the red zone targets but after his 1st performance I'm pretty sure he is on a lot of peoples radar and probably will be drafted higher than I'd like to get him at.

I agree, seems like confirmation bias to me. Cook ran with the 1's and caught passes all over the place. Mixon got 1 carry with the 1st team and everything else with the 2's. It was almost entirely Hill for the first 2 series. Maybe that changes going forward, but way too earlier to be saying anything definitive either way.
