2018-19 NBA Thread: Magic Johnson leaves Lakers in order to pursue other jobs to be completely terrible at (1 Viewer)

Punting a season with LBJ at this stage of his career just isn't very smart.  And give me poise over chemistry all day every day.  These guys have played with a new set of teammates every year n their formative years.  If they know the game they can adapt to knew teammates.
Even with LBJ—they are nowhere near the stratosphere of the Warriors.   Even if you take the Warriors out of the equation—talent alone is not enough to win a championship.  You need chemistry and a culture.   The Lakers not being a true contender this season is not “punting”—it’s just being objective and realistic.   The really good teams in the West have both talent and experience together.  Even if the Lakers were to land another superstar player this season—their lack of chemistry would prevent them from being a true title contender.   A random team of all stars wouldn’t fare well playing against a team of solid players that have been together for a while.

Rondo may or may not have also spit on Paul.

I'm all for these morons fighting each other as much as possible. Hilarious. Rondo's form was pretty bad, btw.
yeah i like when they talk afterward, then you actually see the fight and it is like  . always seem to pick fights with other guys who don't knwo how to to fight so great either, so it is all good for a laugh. I will give it to them over baseball players though

Nuggets and Warriors in a real donnybrook coming down the stretch

Nuggets in trouble - up by 2 with 11 sec left

23 of 40 from FT line tonight - should be killing the Warriors

Nuggets win on a last second Juancho block - 100-98

24-42 on FT - total crap

Juancho looked good tonight. I don't think he'll every be any sort of creator offensively, but he can finish at the rim and shoot from deep, and defensively it seems he can effectively defend small forwards.

• NBA: Last Monday, the day before the season tipped off, a bettor at the Westgate SuperBook placed a $50,000 bet on the Los Angeles Lakers to make the playoffs at -500 odds. If the Lakers reach the postseason, the bet would pay a net $10,000.

that's a terrible bet at that price.  It's one James injury away from losing.
That is peak Lakers fan.

Well, to be fair, I don't think the guys splitting atoms are wearing Lakers' jerseys.

With ingram and Rondo out 4 and 3 games respectively, that's another speed bump for this bet to hit.  Maybe LeBron can move the Lakers to the Eastern Conference?

that's more like spittle that comes from trying to talk #### with a mouthguard in

if anyone in the NBA deserves to get punched, it's definitely Chris Paul
what chris paul forgot to do was make sure he was behind someone bigger when he made a cheap shot like he normally does so the other guy would have been hit while chris paul shouted hold me back bro but actually ran away like always take that to the bank brochacho ps i still hate kobme and rondo is a gigantic jerk

I think someone bet $67,000 on the Warriors to win $670 :bag:

Vegas is going to love all of the extra handle from the LA crowd this year  They will blindly bet them no matter the number imo

I was actually shocked that the Blazers were favored by 3 in the opener.  Was hoping for ML odds.

Blazers vs Wizards tonight at home.  Portland should roll to their 3rd win, but for some reason, Washington had their number last year.  This is just the sort of game Portland finds a way to lose every season.

At least Celtics and 6ers fans have the decency to go to some shady guy named Sal to place their bets.  And if they don't pay up, his buddy Vince shows up and gives em a beat down over the $1.25 they plunked down on their teams.

You think the NBA and Disney Corp will let the Lakers finish out of the playoffs?

This fight is exhibit A - in a fight that was similar (maybe fewer real punches thrown)with the Nuggets and Knicks in 2006 Carmelo and JR Smith got 15 and 10 games. Nate Robinson, Mardy Collins , Jared Jeffries got 10, 6 and 4 for the Knicks - and a lot of money changed hands. The message sent here is that you play for Lakers no big deal.

Pull up a chair and stay awhile. The more legitimate fans we have posting the better.
:lmao:  I'm a Bucks fan for sure. But I'd be hard pressed to watch a Magic v Pelicans game on a Wednesday night than whatever else is on. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an NBA hater I just don't have time for it. Luff checking in here, I learn a lot from you #######s. Cappy does a great job with the titles. I'll have a dozen or so posts by the playoffs :)

I'd say this even if LA pulled it out tonight, I can see a world where LA doesn't win it even w/ a healthy Lebron. They might have to really fight for it.

James taking the game winner there on a stepback from like 22 feet wasn't ideal. Gay did a very admirable job defending him there.

How many wins are you projecting them to finish with? Just curious.
38 - 45 wins for the Lakers.

Gun to my head, give them 43. LeBron is winding down. This can be a 50+ win team next year. I think they'll have a decent run after the All-Star Break.

But LeBron didn't come to LA to win, he came to retire. He knows he ain't beating the Warriors, so now he's just enjoying the game and padding his stats.

Boston a special kind of trash when you can't even learn from your mistakes in Game 7 last year. I'll never get this teams overdependence on the 3, even when they haven't been falling all game. Yall ain't GSW East, so give up the shtick.

In todays NBA if the three is open you have to take it because the other team will do the same and you can't keep up otherwise.

In an interesting development Golden State is currently 22nd in the league in 3-point attempts (Boston is 10th).
as you may be aware, GS was 17th in attempts last year.  (Boston 10th last year).

Lakers 0-3. That roster is trash and Lebron is going to have to play at least 80 games to make the playoffs. I get the off the court stuff with signing there but if he isn’t able to lure KD next year that was an astronomically stupid decision to sign there.

God, I hope the Raptors are really really good this year. I can't do 8 more months of this.
✔️

It's weird how basically the entire NBA fan base and media treated Kawhi Leonard like an all-star caliber player who was a bit of a question mark, rather than an MVP caliber player who would have been far and away the second-best player in the Eastern Conference behind the now-departed LeBron in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.
