2018-19 NBA Thread: Magic Johnson leaves Lakers in order to pursue other jobs to be completely terrible at (4 Viewers)

With LeBron gone....I don't know if I move that for a Leonard who doesn't want to be there.  If Lebron were still out there....yeah, of course you do it.
I dunno. The east is wide open. Leonard must have a relationship with brown. And he has been consulting with doctors in new york apparently that are connected with the sixers. Maybe he stays after playing for brown with the young studs and some other pieces. Philly media and fans suck, however, my experience as a Pittsburgh guy living in Philadelphia is that Sixers fans are the least annoying. And now I consider myself one as I have no conflict back home.

I dunno. I was young and stupid at 19. I knew a lot of guys who were young and stupid. Somehow I avoided slamming my girlfriend’s head around.
I always hate the young and stupid excuses. At those ages yeah we did dumb things but we knew better that no meant no, not to hit girls and some of the other stuff people try t defend young athletes and celebs on that is Joe Smith did it they'd condone them for it.

Seriously. Guy is either real dopey or just a liar/hypocrite.
I go for the latter with LeBron. So many people bought into the BS he put in about going home and all. You think if he thought Wade and Bosh had anything left he wouldn't have stayed in MIA? He saw the writing on the wall that team went as far as it could. His Hometown team had a young up coming PG in Kyrie Irving, a high draft pick and opportunity for him to get Kevin love to play with him. I can't believe how many people bought into the BS he was spewing. LeBron is a mercenary and only goes where he has the best chance to succeed for himself in his NBA career and when he retires. It's why I never bought the 76ers having a chance to sign him. LA offers something LeBron really wants that Philly doesn't. plenty of job opportunities in the producing field and many of the famous people live out there including those producers and famous people from Philly like Hart, Shams to an extent and others.

If Warrior big 4 can get max money why would they ever leave?
This is a good question.  My impression is that the two money factors are (1) the team will have less and less flexibility to surround them with supporting pieces so that eventually it'll just be #30 picks and low impact vets who sign under one of the salary cap exemptions; and (2) the luxury tax bill will eventually be astronomical. This projection puts it at $256 million for 2020-2021 alone. That's a decent chunk of change, even for an NBA owner with a new arena.  Combining it with the money they'd actually pay the players puts their salary costs for the roster well above $400 million, more than double what any American sports team currently pays in salary costs.

Obviously there's non-money factors too.  Their relationships could sour over time, Durant might decide (accurately IMO) that his legacy will suffer if he retires a Warrior, someone might decide they prefer BBQ to burritos, etc.

Yeah I get the whole the East is up for grabs but without Leonard extending his contract now (If it's even possible) after being traded I think the Sixers take a bigger risk of him walking after next year and losing those assets. But that was a risk the old ownership took constantly with trades of big risk Andrew Bynum anyone? I don't know what this new ownership with harris does. They preach patients but we've never seen them in a desperate situation yet either. Not saying they are in one now though but could come up sooner then latter.

The legend continues. I remember when so many experts thought Noah was nothing but a guy off the bench to bring energy and defense and give the team some Rebs. Was one of the best passing Cs in his prime since Divac. He'll end up being one of the top 3-5 players in his draft that also had Horford, KD and Nick Young as well as Conley. I was loving during his prime all these experts saying he was nothing more then a bench guy now trying to back track. It was almost as good as all the experts who had to backtrack after the Eagles won the SB this year. Man many of those hot takes blow up in their faces.
Have you ever been wrong?

This is the moment Micheal Jordan has built the Hornets for.  The 8th seed is ours!
Kemba stays Kemba

Howard leaving frees up Batum's game

Bridges is the next D Mitchell

Malik plays like he did at the end of the season when he got minutes

Cody realizes his stretch 5 potential

HERE WE COME

I didn't see a ton of Laker basketball so I'll defer to hardcore Laker fan and NBA superfan. Not many teams are going to want to deal with his dip#### Dad. He's got the knee issue, minor thing but still. Just don't think he's going to be a sought after piece in a trade.

He also rated as an elite perimeter defender and his shooting improved consistently throughout the year.

I think the eye test says he stinks because of his fugly shot, but he contributes in so many different ways on the court that aren't points per game.

I know you've probably had a different experience then me since I root for 3 out of the 4 Philly teams but overall I found the Sixers fans to be the most annoying and most bandwagon. Ion the finals run I was rooting for the team only because they were local and the Bulls weren't in the finals plus I was rooting for the Kings until the NBA blew their load with the officials all over the Lakers. I barely watched the team and knew more about the team then some of the people claiming they were fans. At least with the SB this year the people who weren't big fans and only watched the bigger games I came across didn't act like they been diehard fans for yrs. I think Flyers and Eagles fans have the most loyalty to their team and have no issue letting a guy know he's terrible or isn't putting in the effort we like. Phillies fans are a mix and match. I love some of the fans but then you get Phillies fans who use to be annoyed by the Eagles chants at the Vet and CBP when the Phillies were bad saying Eagles fans are terrible. Those were mostly bandwagon fans and after the Linc opened and the NFL went with their new fan conduct policy I wouldn't hesitate to tell an out of towner to bring their kid to the game where the Vet I'd say they probably should be charged with child endangerment. However most of the fans the Phillies fans complained about after the 08 WS win started to frequent CBP and then with the Eagles success last year the idiots started coming back over. Some who don't like Football will say Eagles fans are the worst but it's the most talked about sport in town and biggest sport. Football has been the biggest sport in Philly since the 1920 when UPenn was a dominate national powerhouse. Newsflash these people acting like fools aren't real fans and quite frankly when people where chanting the Eagles at Baseball games the Eagles were riding on more success then the Phillies who were afraid to open their wallets to make the team better. We're a passionate city but I think some fans in our city are incredible delusional at times as well as idiots who think they need to defend the reputation of us being a tough crowd but doing the stupid things that give us way worse rep. I've just found the whole Trust the Process thing annoying when it was a an epic tank job something I never agree with any team doing and think it's total bush league. Especially when the defense of it came by people who I knew as well who accused or hated when The Penguins or some other team did it but once it was one of their teams all the defenses of why it had to happen came out.

Have you ever been wrong?
Sure have. I thought Jordan Matthews would be a better player then he ended up. I was wrong on John Wall and Evan Turner. I've been wrong on things before. I just tend to feel like scouts discredit certain prospects in sports when they see some unorthodox approach. I also thought Blake Bortles would be better then he's been.

Better than I thought. In the few games I saw he looked ok. Loved his game in college.

I wonder how much his Dad really does hurt. The media gloms onto it for clicks but do teams especially in smaller markets just not want to deal with the headache or is that all exaggerated.

this (LeBron) makes the west even more brutal....really sucks for some up and coming teams like the Nuggets....who would be one of the top teams in the east, but will now still struggle to make playoffs....having to play all the western teams 4 times each year or whatever...just doesn't seem fair

they need to just put all 30 teams in one big division....increase the season to 87 games and play each team 3 times....top 16 make the playoffs

I think decreasing the season makes more sense then increasing it. Also hurts the division rivalries, and increases travel by a LOT.

Can't see the players Union allowing more travel and more games.

so the lakers signed lance stevenson and i was just reading about how he was charged with pushing his girlfriend down stairs and grabbing her head and hitting it on the bottom step jeez maybe they can someday hang his jersey up in the rafters next to kobme really a neat team theme they have out there take that to the bank brohans

You wouldn't think that if you were receiving revenue from every game

Also hurts the division rivalries, and increases travel by a LOT.
Not to mention fans in the East might not enjoy a quarter of their team's games going to 11pm or midnight

well only playing each team twice is only 58 games which probably isn't enough.....just trying to figure out a way to even the playing field a little between east/west....

I don't think people really care about division rivalries...

with historical "season records"...ie: most points scored in a season, etc.....not sure they will ever change the number of games....

the difference in the elite talent between the east and west is just off the charts...

Ya 58 is not enough. Your theory of 3 times each would be great and make the most sense from a league point of view, but definitely not feasible mainly from travel.

Agree about rivalries. Not as big of a deal as in mlb/nfl.

It's an aberration in the history of the game, not a permanent condition.
either way....a balanced schedule still seems appropriate....the travel shouldn't be that big of a deal, it can be worked out....heck the nuggets had like a 7 game road trip late in the season...so its not like it cant happen...and its not like these guys slum it up in coach section or something...

yeah if you ask people they would say Lakers/Celtics is the biggest "rivalry" in the NBA....playing each team 3 times brings along with it an automatic tie breaker...and I just cant think that travel is that big of a deal....when the Celtics head west, they play all the California teams, Portland, Utah, whatever....a few extended road trips here or there is not that big of a deal...and alternate the home site of that "third game" with each team each year...

the only silence i hear is from lakers fans who refuse to address that the organization venerates sexual assault and glorifies those who commit it and will look the other way in favor of wins over women i guess if that is the sound of silence you are referencing then yep its pretty deafening take that to the bank brohans

What's up CSTU? How's life been...brohan? Perhaps, just an observation here, you seem pretty determined to have a discussion about these incidents and as they pertain to women.

Might I suggest you go create a thread about it in the politics forum and you and Tim can discuss at length, and leave us basketball fans to discuss breaking basketball news.

Signed with much love brohanarito,

The NBA thread

Sheriff Clarke, is that you?  Not interested in moral lectures from Bucks fans, considering your franchise's recent history.

Draft reformatting would help plus better player development. Maybe come up with a system similar to baseball where they can send guys down to the G-League team and vise versa.

Guys, when you quote DJax my ignore user button no longer eliminates his posts from the thread.  Thanks
Has anyone told him about the amazing other filter features when you ignore someone you can check mark the ignore posters quoting said person as well as mentions?

Kobe was cleared of Sexual assault. The Women kept changing her story. now did he cheat on his wife? Most likely. Did he assault the girl? Probably not. What most likely happened was she didn't realize who the guy was at first realized she made a huge mistake and then lied about it. Another guys DNA was found in her panties the sameone she claims she wore when with Kobe as well. There were huge holes in her story. I'm by no means condoning or defending sexual assault at all. Just saying do to the info thats out there on this specific case I have a hard time believing this girls story.

I'm honestly pretty big on the season record thing so I agree with that. I think the only season change I'd be okay with is something nice and symmetrical. Non-conference x2, non-division x3, division x4. That actually brings down the # of games to 76. So players would be on board and I think some records would still be approachable.

...And yes I've thought way too much about this.

I heard a lot about the Kobe incident from someone that was directly involved in the actual case. Long story short, he is no angel (nor is she a saint). That being said, him being cleared or not being prosecuted does not mean he didn't do anything.

For years and years up until today, SWC would just get likes for his great Kobme takes.  Those were great times.  Due to the circumstances, time to bag them for a few years, brohanation.  The greater good calls.

Isn't it he is no saint and she is no angel?

I just did...

To be honest, when I see you go past a few sentences, it's just an insta-ignore.  I have that special ability.

As for the Hornets getting the Cavaliers spot in the playoffs. All I have to say about that is over Blake Griffins dead contract.

Never said he didn't do anything nor is he an angel. I live a town over from where Kobe went to HS. Trust me he's no saint either. I'm just more so saying it's hard to believe an accuser with a questionable background and giving info with so many holes the prosecution could connect that were lies or sugar coated. If she was assaulted I feel terrible for her but her story not adding up and her character make me question what happened. I just hate when fans come out with the well he did it when nothing was ever proven anything either way. This is why I hope when most of these accusations come out they better be right because if the person accused didn't do it they were forever be labeled in the accused section fair or not.

Not surprising. The idea that her failure to cooperate meant he was completely innocent of any wrongdoing is/was an overstatement by Kobe defenders. The idea that Kobe is a violent rapist is just as silly.

Yeah, cause he is definitely talented enough to have his jersey retired.
