Is there any soap opera or any evening drama better than the NBA? Honestly it's the coolest most hilarious thing in the world. Plus basketball!

Ty Lue is a strong frontrunner for the Lakers coaching job, league sources tell ESPN.

Shocking to see Lue in the mix.  Truly shocking!

Jvs Eastern conference playoff picks.  I know many of you don't like or appreciate long posts--so I apologize in advance.  Please just scroll past if they don't interest you.

Eastern conference:

Bucks vs. Pistons--  Blake has had some really big games this season.   He's had a pretty under appreciated season up in Detroit.  With that said--I just really like the Bucks in this one.  Drummond has the ability to be a defensive force in the point with his size and quickness--but he just chooses not to do that.  The Bucks have a great combination of inside/outside players and they have solid depth. They are well coached and I see Bucks winning this in 5 games or less.

Raptors vs Magic  -this could actually be a fun and chippy series.  Toronto needs to prove that their regular season success can actually translate to the post season.  How well they do in the playoffs this season could factor into Kawhi's decision on whether or not he wants to stay there long term.  Orlando has been playing really good basketball to finish the season. They are playing with a little more confidence and swag.   I don't see the Magic winning this series--but I see them playing well enough to put force casual NBA fans to notice them a bit more.  I have the Raptors in 5 here

76ers vs Nets-  When completely healthy--I think the 76ers starting five is probably second to only Golden State when it comes to talent.  I honestly think they have the ability to be a true dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde type of team.  When they play to their talent levels--they are a great team. With that said--they often times play below their talent levels and end up losing games they really have no reason to lose.  They need to work on consistently playing smart and hard.  The Nets are a scrappy and tough playing team.  They routinely play above their talent level and they play hard.   If the sixers underestimate them--do not be surprised if they steal a game or two.  With that said--I see the sixers winning this in 5--but 2-3  of the games will be very tough/competitive games.

Celtics vs Pacers-  as a pacers fan--the oladipo injury was absolutely brutal.  The Pacers will playing so well before he went down.  They did a nice job to finish the season well enough to stay in the top 5--but this is just a mad matchup for them.  With no Oladipo--the Pacers  just tend to have stretches of offensive ineptitude.  When they go cold--they go really cold--and no matter what kind of lead they have in a game--it's never really over until the buzzer sounds.  I think the Pacers will do their best to compete but boston's talent pool is too much for Indiana to overcome in a series.  I see Boston sweeping here--but would not be shocked to see Indiana do their best to win one home game.

That's my Eastern Conference predictions for now. If I have time--I'll post my Western Conference in a bit.

JV's Western Conference Playoff picks

Warriors vs Clippers---I've said it before--Doc Rivers deserves a lot of praise for his job this season.  He was masterful extracting the best out of a very limited talent pool.  I love the zubac pick up for them--but with that said--the talent gap between them and the Warriors is just too big.  I see a sweep here--but regardless--I think Clippers fans should be proud of their season.  Warriors in 4.

Nuggets vs Spurs--This one has the chance to be one of the funner first round matchups. Spurs are just really well coached and they fight really hard. I hate that Derozan and Lemarcus are basically mastters of midrange 2pt shooting.  In the current NBA--I think very solid 3pt shooting trumps over elite mid-range 2point shooting over the course of a series.  I see the Spurs winning one game here but competing pretty tough in 2-3 other games.  I see Denver in 5 tough games.

Rockets vs Jazz-  This one can be really fun.   Harden basically gets most of his offense through shooting 3's or attacking the basket (and the free throws that come as a result of those two things).  With Gobert in the middle--Utah's perimeter defenders can focus on defending him at the 3point line as they know that Gobert will be there in case Harden drives past them.  Gobert staying out of foul trouble is a big factor in this series.  I do like that Utah does have pesky defenders like ingles and Mitchell that can be used to give Harden different looks. I think this is a matchup where Houstons other players will have to step up--Capella could put up big numbers if Gobert has to always step up to help on Harden.   I also think that Utah would rather CP3 beat them than Harden.   I do see houston winning this--but I see either them winning this in 6--or possibly a really tough five game series where Utah had a really good chance to win a second game.

Trailblazers vs Thunder-   Much like how the Oladipo injury was devastating to the Pacers--I feel the same way about the Nurkic injury to the Blazers.  He gave them an inside presense--and he gave them a swag.  I would have loved to see him and Westbrook getting chippy at each other.   With that said--I don't think the Nurkic injury is truly catastrophic to them in the sense that they aren't just going to lay down and die.  Kanter and Hood were both really great pickups.  I don't like the strength advantage that Adams will have against Kanter--but they do know each other's games well being former teammates.  Lillard is not a great defender--and this is the x-factor in my opinion.  If the blazers can defend well enough to keep westbrook inefficient from the field--I see them winning this in 7.  If Westbrook is allowed to put up 20+ points a game in an efficient fashion--I see OKC winning this in 7.   I do prefer the depth of the blazers to the thunder.  I'm going to go Blazers in 7 here---but this series really could go either way.

Also Jo is playing BTW.
Sixers look good. very happy to see it did look like Jimmy has another gear for the playoffs. will be more fun if they hit some shots. 6-25 in the 1st Q not great

well we are 3-4 minutes past my original post so same. Sixers get anything to fall game will be over. problem is whole team is cold.

does this update help, or you need more play-by-play?
Refs doing their best to keep them within striking distance.  This team won't get past the second round.  If they make it that far.

:lmao:  are you watching the game? why ask for an update then? Silly

Embiid is 2nd or 3rd in the league at drawing fouls. if he stops shooting 3s him and Bobi will draw fouls all game.

if anything the refs have stopped calling fouls in the paint against the Nets

Not that many people are expecting them to get past the 2nd round.  You seem to act like it's shocking that the underdog will lose round 2?

really would love to know why Thobias has gone so cold. if we get the same Jimmy from the 2nd Q and Ben goes aggressive 2nd half Sixers should be fine

sixers will be ok they will make adjustments and stop the dribble penetration in game 2 i think and then its a differnt ballgame take that to the bank brohans

Sixers have struggled defending Brooklyn guards’ penetration all season so it’s probably harder than making a couple simple tweaks - that said, I think Philly still takes the series in 6. A lot went right for Brooklyn while pretty much everything went wrong for Philly and the Nets only won by 9. As Embiid gets healthier and the Sixers improve upon their 3P% of 12 it’ll be hard for the good guys to keep up.

only concern for me is that embid tries to do to much and ends up getting hurt or slowing his recovery knees just scare the hell out of me take that to the bank brohan

Apparently the Lakers fired Luke Walton so he could take a better job with the Kings. He must be laughing his ### off between bouts of crying tears of relief and saying prayers of gratitude.

Meanwhile, word gets out that Jeanie overruled Magic's plans to draft De'Aaron Fox in favor of Lonzo Ball. Glad to hear she's got the organization headed in the right direction after their period of unprecedented dysfunction lol.
That's false news from back in February, don't know why it's being recirculated right now. I know you don't like it when we Laker fans do stuff like this, but if you'd been following along with the team back around that draft, and quite some time prior, you'd have found that Ball was Magic's guy the whole time, drafting Fox was never really a consideration for Magic, and not because of Buss.

i feel bad whenever the raptors lose because they are a team that has a mascot that really describes there city and are one of the most storied city team combos in all of the nbas history so it just sort of hurts and lets not forget maple syrup take that to the bank brohans

Any time Kawhi loses I smile a little...

These were good. Keep them coming.

In watching this SA/Den game, in which #7 San Antonio leads #2 Denver by 12 in the 2nd on their home floor while starting such household names as Bryn Forbes, Derrick White and Jakob Poeltl, I'm reminded of a stat I heard earlier this year (and may already be in this thread somewhere, sorry):

In the last 21 seasons the San Antonio Spurs have spent a grand total of 48 days under .500. That's half a season for a disturbing number of teams, and the #2 team, Dallas at 937 (plus a little for the end of the current season), is still really impressive. 2.3 losing days per season is borderline unbelievable. I know the Pats/Celtics/Yankess have all had long stretches of dominance, but the Spurs have to have set the record for winning consistently over a 2+ decade period, at least in my lifetime or in leagues with more than 6 teams.

I mean, there's no way this herky-jerky team that is last in 3-point attempts and led by throwback weirdo DeMar Derozan should be ahead in this game, but here we are. Would anyone be surprised if they won the game or the series? After learning the above I'm not.
They are actually led by throwback weirdo LaMarcus Aldridge, and throwback weirdo Demar Derozan is a close 2nd. But your point stands.

Simmons really told phila fans not to boo? If they lose in the first, they need to try to move him before he just leaves for the lakers. Not sure what you can get though — need a real pg who can shoot and play with Embiid and Butler. Not panic mode here, but I can see this getting ugly and I personally would rather sign butler and harris to whatever and build around them and embiid if simmons is going to be soft and never learn to shoot.
