In watching this SA/Den game, in which #7 San Antonio leads #2 Denver by 12 in the 2nd on their home floor while starting such household names as Bryn Forbes, Derrick White and Jakob Poeltl, I'm reminded of a stat I heard earlier this year (and may already be in this thread somewhere, sorry):
In the last 21 seasons the San Antonio Spurs have spent a grand total of 48 days under .500. That's half a season for a disturbing number of teams, and the #2 team, Dallas at 937 (plus a little for the end of the current season), is still really impressive. 2.3 losing days per season is borderline unbelievable. I know the Pats/Celtics/Yankess have all had long stretches of dominance, but the Spurs have to have set the record for winning consistently over a 2+ decade period, at least in my lifetime or in leagues with more than 6 teams.
I mean, there's no way this herky-jerky team that is last in 3-point attempts and led by throwback weirdo DeMar Derozan should be ahead in this game, but here we are. Would anyone be surprised if they won the game or the series? After learning the above I'm not.
