2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (3 Viewers)

Saban lost to LA-Monroe his first season at Bama. He did spank UT though...some big wins helps everyone see what it can become.
Didn’t Dabo have a terrible first year too? Judging any of these guys in 8 quarters is literally as dumb as it gets. Most FSU fans are morons but this is taking it too far.

It’s the butt of jokes with the male cheerleaders (deserved)...but a fantastic experience for a sports fan...crowd interaction on a level of its own.
I went to the Clemson game there in 04 (we got thrashed), but I had a blast with their fans and at the game.

That wasn’t through the end zone. I hate when refs find ways to make the games about them.
I think the touchback rule is stupid in general, but the pylon cam pretty definitively showed the ball going straight over it which is the goal line. Sucks for the Aggies, but I think it was employed correctly.

Yesterday just underscored how much  better UGA is than the rest of the SEC East. It wouldn't surprise me to see Gamecocks finish 2nd in division despite yesterday's beatdown.

FL-GA is gonna be ugly

Really one of the oddest rules in the game, but not sure what else it could be in that situation.

Schedule looks favorable, but Bentley is going to have to show up in some big games to make it happen.  Just not something we have seen happen.  Yesterday he had a surprising amount of time to throw against the UGA pass rush, but was locking onto his first option and not even seeing wide open players.  The whole offensive approach was too conservative like they were trying not to get blown out and afraid to take risks (oops).  Any team that can stuff the run is going to have a solid chance to beat them.

I do think there needs to be some punishment for flailing the ball at the goal line uncontrolled, I just don’t know about loss of possession. Maybe just a 10 yard / loss of down penalty from the spot of the fumble?  Something like if it happens on 2nd down at the 1, it would be 3rd and goal from the 11?  I think that’s maybe the most equitable situation.  If it comes on a long run, make it first down and goal at the 20?  I don’t know.

Chip Kelly after loss to Oklahoma: “The only guys I’m disappointed in is (Oakland A’s general manager) Billy Beane,” UCLA coach Chip Kelly said, referencing Murray’s pending baseball career. “I wish he gave the kid more money and a little bigger prize so maybe No. 1 wouldn’t be out there, because he’s a real talented player.”

Spent a hot afternoon tailgating at Jordan-Hare and watching the Auburn Tigers successfully defend their title belt of "Football Champion of Alabama" over Alabama State.

While the football team pretty much owned the Hornets from the get go- the Hornet Marching Band and the Honey Bees owned halftime. Auburn crowd  cheered their every move. Honey Bees did a rollicking number on Proud Mary - nothing like a HBCU Marching Band.

I like the idea of it being like a touchback but the team that had possession keeps it.  So they put it at the 20 or 25 with the offense getting a fresh set of downs. It's a tough one though

What a great day, OU and Colgate won!

You like the ‘Gate? One of my HS best friends played for them many moons ago. His cousin’s kid just recently transferred from UMass and now starts on the OL for Auburn.

Is Herm Edwards another NFL coach that will find success at the college level?  Does he give the potato speech?
I admit I was :shuked: when ASU hired Herm. That offense looked awful for three quarters, but that fourth was impressive.

Big Ten is now 0-10 all time at Tempe.

That has to regular season against ASU since Penn State won their 2nd national championship there.

“Following Alabama at 106 No. 1 appearances and Ohio State at 105 are Oklahoma 101, Notre Dame 98, Southern Cal 91, Florida State 72, and Nebraska 70.”

fsu started football 50 years after all of those schools. :bowtie:
AP began late 30’s...didn’t FSU start late 40s?  Or was that version not ‘D1’?

Add another chapter to the Nebraska-Colorado "rivalry".  I didn't think it was dirty at the time, but seeing this makes me wonder.  Looks like the Colorado player twists the leg of Nebraska's freshman QB Adrian Martinez , taking him out of the game.  I don't think anything has been officially said about the injury.

Twitter link

Because of transfers, Nebraska does not have a scholarship backup QB.

:kicksrock:
definitely deliberate

definitely dirty

usually guys are smart enough to reserve that sort of thing for the bottom of a pile.. guess he thought his body covered up enough of the angle that he could get away with it.

From that list I wonder if Nebraska or Notre Dame sees #1 ever again.  I suppose there's an outside chance SC and FSU won't either.

Kind of like how Tiger will never crack the top 50 again in owgr? Unless college football is outlawed, one of them will reach #1 again.

ND was #2 like 5 years ago. And is currently like #8. They will be #1 again.

And NE just hired Scott Frost. All it takes is a good coach to turn things around. ####, it was only like 7 years ago when ####### Kansas was #2 in the country.

ETA: Apparently that magical Kansas year was 2007. But still.

I don’t think when they started in the 40s it was at whatever the upper level was classified as then. Not really sure however. Their first poll ranking was ‘64 I believe.

Games getting postponed/cancelled already because of Hurricane Florence:

Central Florida at North Carolina ... cancelled

West Virginia at NC State ... ppd.

Campbell at Coastal Carolina ... moved to Wednesday

Also, Boston College at Wake Forest on Thursday is being moved up to a 5:30 p.m. kickoff (I'm not sure how much that extra two hours is going to help).

Everyone in South Carolina, North Carolina and elsewhere ... be safe!

Robert Morris at James Madison (mountains of Virginia) is moving to Thursday night.   I believe both Va. Tech and UVA have scheduled home games Saturday too depending on the track of this thing.

Free admission. Either of these teams have anything whatsoever exciting going on?

Odds to win the Heisman Trophy (does anybody really care about this anymore?)

Tua Tagovailoa - 5/1
Bryce Love - 11/2
Jonathan Taylor - 10/1
Khalil Tate - 14/1
Dwayne Haskins - 15/1
Trace McSorley 15/1
Will Grier - 15/1
Jake Fromm - 22/1
Justin Herbert - 22/1
Jake Browning - 25/1  :X

And a bunch of other dudes, although I do see one that's a little intriguing.  Nick Fitzgerald at 50/1?  I might throw a sawbuck on that.

UPDATE:

Tua - 4/1
Haskins - 6/1
Taylor - 6/1
Grier - 6/1
Kyler Murray - 10/1
Trace McSorley - 12/1
Bryce Love - 15/1
AJ Dillon (BC) - 18/1
McKenzie Milton - 20/1
DAndre Swift - 25/1
Drew Lock - 25/1
Jack From - 25/1
Justin Herbert - 25/1

Bunch of other dudes with no shot....

Browning 60/1

UVA's QB is supposed to be an exciting player running and passing.  It's Paul Perkins brother.   But they just lost to Indiana last week so overall the team is probably a 5-6 win team.
