2018 College Football Thread: Local man buys some teenage champions a 4 for 4 (1 Viewer)

What was this story about Tom Herrman pounding a Iowa State cheerleader on a recruiting trip?  Ohio State is cheater U so this stuff coming out isn't surprising.

WAZZU and West Virginia for sure.  No question, maybe even UCF.  LSU has been ### pounded by Florida and Bama, they aren't even in the same tier or maybe two tiers as Bama.

They should be out .
Who said they were on the same tier as Bama?   They slipped up on the road against Florida, and lost to Bama.   Show me a better win for Wazzu or WV than Georgia was for LSU.   If you think Florida ### pounded LSU,  then what do you call that thing that LSU did to GA?

LSU has the #1 SOS in the country,  If I'm not mistaken,  but none of that will matter if they don't win out.

Doesn't matter if they win out and the Big 12 and BIG have one loss champions.  That SOS is gonna fall with RIce...

Dude on another board I frequent says he had a friend that was there... It wasn't a cheerleader, it was a recruiting ho. And it happened when he was at ISU, not tOSU, but don't let that stop you...

Iowa State played in the Cactus Bowl or whatever. Bunch of support staff advanced early to prep the practice site and hotel. He had gone down early ahead of the team to “recruit”.

Anyway, they're back at hotel after work one day, and down the hall strolls Mrs. Herman. Don't know the specifics of the rest, but she apparently walked in on him, and there was a scene

This LSU team doesn't strike me as one that's much different than...well, every other LSU team from the last half decade or so.  They're fine.  They can earn a New Year's 6 game.  Or if they lose to A&M get a JV game the same day.  They're nothing beyond that though.

I'm not suggesting that LSU should make the playoffs, just that their #7 ranking is reasonable and deserved.  I also think that they would beat WAZZU or WVU.

It's been a long time since LSU has won 10 games.  Hopefully they can pull it off.  If they do then this will easily be the best  team they've had since 2011, and it's not close.

This may be the best team in 7 years but this season hasn't been a whole lot different than 2016 - except they got a phantom penalty to help win at the buzzer at Auburn instead of a close loss.  And their opener that year was against something competent rather than an opponent that was grossly over rated.  Great win against Georgia.  Hang your hat on that one.  Maybe it can serve as a stepping stone for the future.  But as is your point differential on the road for the year is 0.  Need to fix that in A&M or it'll be easier to forget about that signature win.

If they don't beat A&M then they will plummet down the rankings and it's all moot.  Just keep in mind that this team was picked for 5 losses and a near last place finish in the SEC, so unlike previous years we might exceed expectations instead of disappointing.  I guess that is the main difference.

O has been steadily rebuilding the lines since he got here, as they were in horrible shape before he arrived.  Still a ways to go, but I think they are moving in the right direction.

I realize I'm on an island, but for me not much said before October matters.  So I'll never keep something like that in mind - whether it's good or bad for yours or my team.  Your September performance is a function of what's happened over the previous months then come October the legit ones separate.  Every season there are a staggering number of teams that are "supposed to be" good that fall on their face and a comparable number of teams that aren't that all of a sudden do well.  But the same talk comes around every August anyway.  Being "picked for 5 losses" is nothing more than conversation fodder.  And it's a useless conversation.

Fair enough.  I guess I just wanted to make the point that this team seems to be getting better, not worse.  If they can get to 10 or 11 wins, they will be considered a better team than they have been in the past few years.

If the 2nd part happens then the 1st part is true.  That 1st part isn't the case right now though.  You got shutout at home by Bama then had to sweat it out against a 2 win Arkansas team that has a loss to Colorado State and curb stomping to North Texas to their name.  This team has the making's of peaking in October.  Just largely depends on what happens next Saturday.

WVU for sure.  Probably Washington State and maybe UCF.

LSU is highly overrated and is only getting the ranking because of the SEC bias.
I think they are rated just fine.  I know everybody wants to point out the two losses and wants to make a mockery of their loss to Florida, but I don't think any team in another conference would volunteer to play this team right now.  That's a damn good defense.  I'm a conference honk and would love to see Washington State win out, but LSU would kill the Cougars.

UCF isn't as good as they were last year.  It's impressive what they've done, but outside of the Auburn bowl win (which was great) this team hasn't really impressed me.  I don't think they want any part of LSU either.

I assume you realize that if WVU or Wazzu had played Bama, they would also have 2 losses.   So let's point to the other losses. #13 Florida is IMO a better loss than #16 Iowa State and definitely a better loss than unranked USC.  Now let's point to the best wins of the three teams.  LSU beat #5 Georgia(and beat them soundly), WSU squeaked by # 19 Utah and WVU barely beat #15 Texas so tell me again why you are so certain that those teams should be ranked higher.

If you want to put UCF at 4 for being undefeated, I won't argue, but anything short of that they have no case.

From what I read, it sounded like Gaine's father LeBron accused his ex-wife of faking the cancer, which I think expedited his transfer to UF (medical hardship or some such).

However, the mother Leah has a pretty sordid past too, including convictions for theft while she was the nurse of an elderly couple. I'm guessing that's the crux of the matter?

I think UCF would jump at the chance to play them.  It might happen New Years day if both teams win out.

Florida is garbage.

Have a hard time believing a college football reporter is doing anything but reporting a story.  Keep trying though you guys will eventually make us all believe Ohio st and urban are the victims.
Did you read his story?  If you did, did you come away thinking LeBron Grimes was credible?  Did you think his - for lack of a better word - "click bait" Tweet to the story matched the reporting?

The player and the mom of the player did not ask for this story.  An ex-con who has little to no involvement in his son's life pushed this narrative on McMurphy who eagerly wrote it absent corroboration.  That's stretching journalistic ethics at the very least.

Zach Smith is a garbage human being.  Urban Meyer is not the great moral man he wants us to believe he is.  He got caught in a lie by McMurphy.  But this new McMurphy story belongs in a tabloid and if he still worked for ESPN, his editors would be in a world of hurt for greenlighting this rubbish as "reporting".

In an interview with 610 WTVN yesterday, McMurphy said, "If Urban Meyer was no longer the coach at Ohio State, I wouldn't have reported this".

11 warriors was the source I’m guessing?  There’s quotations in the post though, so it must be legit.
The only source I see is a tweet from this guy- https://twitter.com/JGrega11

I can't find anything else confirming or denying that McMurphy said it. The only other thing I have found is the possibility that the quote was originally from Grimes' father, and just wasn't attributed properly when McMurphy relayed it.

BTW- Not sure why you have such a hard on for McMurphy, but this is not looking good for him. Zack Smith is a crazy p.o.s, but, as Spock has pointed out from the get go, it's entirely possible that his wife is too. McMurphy's latest effort doesn't do him much good in regard to the original story.

I really don’t care at all about McMurphy, I just enjoy the drama. It cracks me up when a fan base comes unhinged, especially after seeing everyone defend Zach Smith a couple of months back. It’s like politics, but almost more tribal where there’s grasping at every straw just hoping something sticks.

I see. Perhaps you can use the mutual schadenfreude to heal the rift between you and Dr. D.
