2018 Free Agency (1 Viewer)

@wingoz: Has a QB ever played the game of NFL money better than Kirk Cousins? 2 straight years on the franchise tag, followed up by 3 years 84 million guaranteed, then another kick at the can at the age of 32. Well done Kirk, well done

Buffalo Bills have interest in QB Sam Bradford

The Buffalo Bills will need a quarterback once Tyrod Taylor's trade to the Cleveland Browns becomes official. As a free agent, Sam Bradford is looking for a place that needs a passer. Could the two be a match?

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday there is interest on the Bills' end. Because of a good scheme fit, Pelissero reported per sources that Buffalo will be a team to watch when it comes time for Bradford to pick his next destination.

There are some caveats, however.

Bradford, who played in just two games last season because of a balky knee that required a stint on the Vikings' injured reserve, will need to pass a physical. The Bills also might have to out-bid Minnesota for his services. Per Pelissero, the Vikings have stayed in touch with Bradford, perhaps keeping lines open in case they miss out on the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes.

If Bradford isn't an option for the Bills, Pelissero added former Vikings quarterback Case Keenum could also be on the Bills' radar.

The quarterback carousel continues.

Shaheen isn't known for his blocking, either, though. Even if Shaheen only steals 25% of the targets, that's probably too much to make Burton someone I'd want in my starting lineup.
Well he isnt a top12 option in redraft anyway...sleeper...waiver guy if he gets hot or something....

Continue to hear Bucs have interest in RB Jerick McKinnon. Team looking to bolster backfield after Doug Martin release.

~$25 million more from 2016-2019 by turning down the Redskins 'offer' before the 2016 season.

Plenty of teams chasing Dion Lewis

Posted by Mike Florio on March 13, 2018, 1:42 PM EDT

One of the top running backs in the 2018 free-agent class has plenty of potential options. Currently, Patriots running back Dion Lewis has varying levels of interest from his current team, and from seven others.

The currently interested teams are the Dolphins, Jets, Giants, Titans, Texans, Colts, 49ers, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

Lewis and Jerick McKinnon are regarded as the top two free-agent running backs, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the same teams interested in Lewis also are interested in McKinnon.

I don't think most people view him as a lock starter...I see him as an upside #2 and would probably feel that way if he went to any other good situation...

I think you are underrating how good Burton is as a receiver.
He is absolutely underrating how good Burton is as a receiver.  Shaheen won't have any impact on Burton's value.  I can't say the same the other way around however.

Redskins are expected to sign WR Paul Richardson to a five-year, $40 million deal with $20 million in guarantees, sources say.

Good grief, that's a lot of coin. It really is a good year to be a free agent WR.

Cool. Also hope he does well here in AZ. If he can stay healthy he's a darn good QB.
Not sure that's going to happen behind that OL. But the guy looked sharp in week 1 last year. Former 1st overall pick. AZ could've done worse. Not a bad signing for them, but if I was Bradford I'd have been looking to go somewhere with better WR & OL.

Probably a good signing for DJ owners assuming the line shows any signs of improvement. Immobile QB that will probably be dumping the ball off a lot to DJ.

I agree. I was fading DJ earlier, but with this signing his 2018 actually has a little hope. But man, if Bradford goes down early... all bets are off. Signing Bradford probably ate up a large chunk of their middling cap space. This team has a lot of holes.

Yeah that’s a big concern imo. I’m glad they got someone better than Glennon given the chatter earlier today. Given the contract maybe they view him as a stop gap and still hope to draft a rookie early (though I think they’d need to move up still).

Not a lot of teams have a 1-2 punch better than Fitz and Johnson. The o-line is an issue, but he did fine in Minnesota where it was even worse.

Jaguars are giving WR Marqise Lee a four-year deal with a max value of $38 million, including $18M guaranteed, per source.

Seems like a lot for Lee and Richardson. Neither of those guys can stay healthy or have done a ton when they were healthy either.

How does Sam Bradford keep making so much money?

Jets and Bills still need their QBs, Bridgewater and McCarron are still on the market.

The #Jets are working on a deal for QB Teddy Bridgewater, source said. It is not his only option. But it is their first choice.

I thought the MIN OL did a fair job last year, but you may recall Bradford got knocked out in week 2... so he really needs to be kept clean back there if you want 16 games out of him.

And not sure I'd be excited about a 1-2 punch of a 35 year old slot WR and a RB. If I was Bradford, I'd have been hollering at Joe Thomas not to retire and then the Browns front office. Coleman, Gordon, Landry, Njoku, and Barkley >>> Fitz, DJ.

I was speaking about the Vikings in 2016, when Bradford played all year. Bradford stayed pretty healthy in 2015 and 2016.

Taylor>Bradford, I'm not sure Bradford had the option of going to the Browns.

I like the move by the Cardinals, certainly would make me feel better about investing in Johnson or Fitz next year.

Report: Teddy Bridgewater close to Jets deal

With the quarterback dominoes falling quickly, the Jets can’t afford to be left out.

And they may have found their Plan B.

According to Bryant McFadden of CBSSports.com, the Jets are nearing a deal with Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

With guys flying off the shelves, it might be the best business the Jets can do, though it won’t take them out of the running for a rookie quarterback. The Jets pick sixth overall.

Bridgewater showed promise before a traumatic knee injury cost him more than a year. He was healthy enough to be active last year, but the Vikings were hesitant to go away from hot-hand

They didn't drop an early 2nd on Shaheen to sit on the bench or inline block, either. There's going to be a split. Plus, how many points through the air is Trubisky going to provide? AR15 should be getting a lot of targets.

Well, it's free agency. The hope was certainly for him to go somewhere without competition. I don't own him anywhere, but I do consider Shaheen to have a lot of potential. If I owned Burton (I don't), I would not want Shaheen as competition. I'd have preferred he signed somewhere like NO, SEA, or DET (assuming Ebron traded).
Nagy did not take Shaheen. Outside of Mitch Trubisky, he owes nothing to anyone on that team and treated it as such. Trey Burton on the other hand is implicated to be hand stamped by the staff. I know who I’ll be betting on to play a role similar to past Andy Reid TE’s.

How does Sam Bradford keep making so much money?
Former 1st overall pick, showing just enough to keep hope alive? I thought he was going to go nuts after week 1 last year... but if you look at his career, man that is a low YPA. It's worse than Alex Smith's.

Taylor>Bradford, I'm not sure Bradford had the option of going to the Browns.
I doubt he had the option, but I am not confident Taylor is better than him.

Whoa. Wonder how many free agents are now trying to change their position to WR.

Man has anyone in any profession, much less just the NFL, ever maximized mediocre performance into better career salaries than Sam Bradford?

Career YPA of 6.6 and QB rating of 85.1, yet here are the earnings of a few guys through the end of the 2018 season since Bradford entered the league in 2010 (granted Wilson was in two fewer years, but he still won't approach Bradford's first 9 years earnings when he gets there).

Bradford: $134 million
Brady: $136 million
Roethlisberger: $132 million
Wilson: $73 million
Rodgers: $126 million

A league source tells Yahoo Sports the Buffalo #Bills will explore trade scenarios to move into the top five picks in the #NFL draft (QB-needy #Jets hold 6th pick). Talks are expected to materialize after first week of free agency and intensify at the Orlando owner's meetings.

Stafford has made 175M from 2010-2018 and has made 1 more Pro Bowl.

Stafford and Bradford have won the same number of playoff games.

Stafford Y/A 7.2 and QB rating of 88.3 (includes 2009 season)

Could Cleveland end up moving one of their early picks again for a boat load of picks? They are still Cleveland but I have liked what they did last year and this year.

didn't Bradford sneak in before the rookie caps?  I thought his first deal was gigantic being the #1 pick and all

He did, but that was only $50mil of that $134 mil.  His $84mil since then looks just as bad releative to those guys even if we take the rookie deal out of it.

Finally a corner, but no numbers yet:

On July 30, 2010, Bradford signed a six-year, $78 million deal, which has $50 million of guarantees and has a maximum value of $86 million making it the largest contract ever for an NFL rookie.

He played well and earned his money his first year with the vikes anyways, and then promptly got hurt again.

you are correct regardless, he keeps raking that money in with these new contracts lately.
