Kemp makes no sense on the Brewers, so if this is legit that prospect haul must be massive.Braun for Kemp and prospects would've been a blockbuster a few years ago
Why would it be massive? Braun isn't that great anymoreKemp makes no sense on the Brewers, so if this is legit that prospect haul must be massive.
Kemp does not solve their current depth chart problem, also costs a lot of money, and while his type of risk differs it's arguably worse. Why would it be massive? Braun isn't that great anymore
LA media ran with this storyI'm just a dumb fan, but does anyone think Ryan Braun is actually still using? Honest question. I'm a Brewer fan (obvi) and I'm still not sure. I'd like to think that the lawyers of a small market team could find a way out of his contract if they really had to with another positive test. He's not making the HOF anyway so what's his motive? He's stuck in Milwaukee. Like Cleveland but only kinda better. If he wants to head to LA or wherever via trade they would have to do their due diligence to accept.
I dunno. Drunken rambling after he dropped a bomb in the top of 9 for the win in San Diego.
Kemp is signed through 2019 at 20m per. Braun is signed through 2020 at 19m per.Kemp does not solve their current depth chart problem, also costs a lot of money, and while his type of risk differs it's arguably worse.
Awesome, can Kemp pitch for that extra mil?Kemp is signed through 2019 at 20m per. Braun is signed through 2020 at 19m per.
The Phillies played a shoddy brand of baseball (and that’s putting it mildly) in losing to the Atlanta Braves, 15-2, Saturday night. Starting pitcher Vince Velasquez did not make it out of the third inning and the defense made four errors.
The sloppiness extended into the dugout and bullpen with what appeared to be an embarrassing lack of communication that resulted in reliever Hoby Milner being summoned to pitch without throwing any legitimate warm-up pitches in the bullpen.
The snafu happened in the third inning when manager Gabe Kapler went to the mound to remove Velasquez. There was only one problem, however. The Phillies did not have a reliever ready. As Kapler arrived at the mound, Milner frantically sprung into action and tried to get loose with a series of quick throws. Third base umpire Greg Gibson was not happy that Milner continued to throw after Kapler had called for the change. Gibson walked toward the bullpen and ordered Milner to come into the game even though the lefty had not completed a normal warm-up.
When Milner got to the mound, the umpires docked his warm-up tosses and shut him down after five. Kapler appeared to ask Milner if he was OK to go and the pitcher said he was. He faced three batters and gave up a two-run single as the Braves pushed their lead to 7-2.
It was not immediately clear where the miscommunication occurred, but it did not reflect well on Kapler, who prides himself on being a bold leader and practitioner of “relentless communication.”
@matt_breen: Gabe Kapler: It's an indication that I need to do a better job. And I will.Phillies having to use a position player to pitch in game #3 symbolizes the first act of the Kapler era.
I'm lazy. Their conclusion? How about your conclusion? It was an honest question. I think he's not, but I'm also not that dumb to think he wouldn't. I was curious what others felt about it since it hasn't really been a topic lately.LA media ran with this story
MLB.tv presents an overload of choices. I gotta be honest, some night's "#### it, let's see how Kapler is going to screw this up" is going to win out on many nights.Phillies having to use a position player to pitch in game #3 symbolizes the first act of the Kapler era.
I have extra innings through verizon. So I download this to my ipad and then get a gps spoofer to be able to watch the Sox?Reminder only 2 days to acquire a tmobile MLB.tv code from tmobile or get one on reddit or eBay or something.
For android there are now some great GPS spoofers that solve that issue on mobile.
It's March 32ndAaron Boone pulls Sonny Gray in the 4th with a 3 run lead, presummedly because he was at 89 pitches
Hurdle pulls Williams after 6 innings of no hit ball at 84 pitches
Modern baseball can really suck
This is insanity. MLB instituted rules specifically to increase the pace of the game, a manager totally screws up, the umpire bails him out by allowing him to throw extra warmup pitches, the opposing team's manager rightly complains, and somehow the umpire throws THAT manager out of the game!?@jaysonst: Sources: MLB will send warning to #Phillies that in the future they won't be given the leeway ump Jerry Layne gave last night when Gabe Kapler waved for a pitcher who hadn't warmed up
Layne was told he did the right thing under the circumstances. @Buster_ESPN was first to report
Basically. Yes.I have extra innings through verizon. So I download this to my ipad and then get a gps spoofer to be able to watch the Sox?
I agree. This is insanity. MLB instituted rules specifically to increase the pace of the game, a manager totally screws up, the umpire bails him out by allowing him to throw extra warmup pitches, the opposing team's manager rightly complains, and somehow the umpire throws THAT manager out of the game!?
And MLB's response is to say that the umpire handled the situation correctly!? Are you kidding me????
MLB shouldn't be saying that Layne handled the situation properly, they should be suspending him and offering Atlanta an apology. It's not the umpire's job to protect the health of a pitcher because his manager did not make sure he got warmed up.
And Kapler may be lucky to make it a month. 21 pitchers used in the first 3 games of the season including having to go to position players is totally bonkers. Add in calling for a pitcher who hasn't warmed up and it seems he has no business managing in the majors.
After reading up on the new rules, apparently there was nothing he could do other than rule the pitcher in violation and MLB would then hand out "progressive penalties" to the player.I agree.
What's the rule? What could the umpire have done differently? If the pitcher leaves the mound for the clubhouse and the bullpen pitcher just keeps warming up .. what can the umpire do?
The umpire believes the pitcher is at legitimate risk of injury if he does not receive additional time to throw warmup pitches
I'm fairly certain a Yankees starter hasn't thrown 100 pitches yet. I realize analytics say pitchers get less effective the third time through the order and that is why more teams rely on their bullpen but it's like they don't realize its a long season and bullpens get worn down over the long haul. This ain't the playoffs. It's April 1. Its gonna get old quick.Aaron Boone pulls Sonny Gray in the 4th with a 3 run lead, presummedly because he was at 89 pitches

<_<Dee Gordon seems quite good at this outfield thing. Not surprising but in a season of forced Mariner viewing, he will be fun to watch.
He has his lineup cards set for the next 6 games (seriously), I wonder if that pitching move was just another part of the new wave thinking. He does want all of his players to be versatile.Phillies having to use a position player to pitch in game #3 symbolizes the first act of the Kapler era.
What a fraud this guy is. Is this mapped out in his head, or is it public knowledge within the dugout? He has his lineup cards set for the next 6 games (seriously), I wonder if that pitching move was just another part of the new wave thinking. I don't disagree about ejecting the other teams manager, but forcing the pitcher into action with a greater risk of injury because his manager is a dope is not the answer. Ump handled that part right. After reading up on the new rules, apparently there was nothing he could do other than rule the pitcher in violation and MLB would then hand out "progressive penalties" to the player.
Although, after reading the MLB.com article on the new rules, it sounds like the umpire did actually make a call that he was allowed to make:
So the umpire ruled that the pitcher was at a legitimate risk of being injured due to not having warmed up at all.
The whole thing is a farce really. Even if the umpire was allowed to make that call, it was absurd to eject the Braves manager for having a legitimate complaint.
Bottom line, MLB's rules are still a joke and the Phillies' new manager is a clown.
It sure seems like there are more postponed games in April, so knowing that allows teams to ease their arms into action. I didnt watch the game, but I imagine if he had that many at that point that they were more stressful pitches and he was experiencing some level of inconsistency too.I'm fairly certain a Yankees starter hasn't thrown 100 pitches yet. That Trevor Williams call is an eyebrow raiser though. Was he not fully stretched out in March?
Not sure how he’s handling it, if it’s already written down for coaches and players to see but that’s what he’s claimed to the media. Is this mapped out in his head, or is it public knowledge within the dugout?

That would take PAs away from Smoak and Morales. The Kendrys kontract was questionable at the time and the falling market for bats makes it look even worse now and for 2019.

While I agree, doesn't this also include the catcher going to the mound? Thought I heard that, but I could be wrong.eoMMan said:I was watching a little bit of the Mets/Cards game yesterday on ESPN and one of the coaches just made a visit to the pitching mound. I had to laugh when the little weasel from ESPN, Tim Kurkjian, said something like "I have to wonder how teams will manage these mound visits when they are only allowed 6 now."
Six?!?!? Are you ####### kidding me? That's a lot. No wonder these games are going 4 hours plus.
Anyone, everyone. Catchers, coaches, infieldersWhile I agree, doesn't this also include the catcher going to the mound? Thought I heard that, but I could be wrong.
