2018 NHL Thread: Cappy is happy while the rest of us pray to the ping pong gods for Tuesday night (2 Viewers)

Did Simmonds shoulder hit his head or did Simmonds helmet hit his head and the his head hit glass.

That glass doesn't look very flexible.
Looked like shoulder to upper chest and arm extended under chin shoving head into glass.  I thought initial point of contact was okay but the arm extension could get him into trouble and league suspends more based on injuries.

Even if it's a clean hit it's a Flyer injuring a Penguin expect the disciplinary hearing early next week no matter what. Malkin should've gotten 5 games for pretending his stick was a Bat

Well that glass needs to be taken into consideration for the injury as well.

There is zero chance the Stars are going to the WCF so that wont turn into a first. And there is zero chance that they resign Zuuc knowing they will lose a 1st if they do

So Boyle netted a 2nd, Grabner got a 2nd and a prospect last year. And this was the best Gorton could do for a guy that has been on a tear lately. Very disappointed.

Was not expecting a first. But some sort of prospect to go along with a 2nd. I dont want to hear about two possible firsts since it aint happening

I think/hope the avalanche will move a defender....prefer nemeth.  Cole should be back soon and graves has shown he deserves to stay.

What will they get for Nemeth? Maybe an autograph photo of Gordie Howe?

Agree on Graves and Cole was terrible right before he went out - and we need to hope UMass folds quick in the NCAA tourney.

Think it was a fine return.  31 year old who is going to be an UFA at the end of the year.   And I know he's been relatively durable, but a smaller player.  Yeah, it's doubtful Stars win 2 series, and the price for them to re-sign him will be significant, but they still may.  Grabner was younger and on a much cheaper salary.  and evidently Boyle's value never diminishes.  I'm good with this trade.  Hayes will fetch a much higher return if traded and let's face it, the Rangers need to move him.  This team is going nowhere fast.

El Capitano G AKA Gritty's BFF with the GWG!!!!! A little trickery again in OT. Some of the most underrated Stick handling in the league.

Right wing Filip Zadina, the sixth overall pick in last year's entry draft, is expected to make his NHL debut Sunday when the Detroit Red Wings host the San Jose Sharks.

He was called up from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday.

Zadina has played in 45 AHL games, collecting 15 goals and 31 points. He won't remain with the Red Wings the rest of the season but they want the 19-year-old to get a taste of the NHL.

@JMackeyPG: No hearing or anything for Philadelphia's Wayne Simmonds. Working on a piece now explaining why that's the case, based on some information I received.

From the ensuing article in Pittsburgh PostGazette-

The NHL Department of Player Safety’s thinking, according to a league source, centers around the contention that Simmonds did not actually hit Dumoulin in the head and, thus, the head was not the principle point of contact.

In a camera angle from the corner — which was not available on the NBC broadcast and had the camera pointing at Dumoulin’s chest — the NHL Department of Player Safety determined that Simmonds targeted, and hit, Dumoulin’s clavicle. In doing so, Dumoulin’s body went one way, his head another.

@NBCSportsPR: Last night’s #StadiumSeries overtime thriller between the @penguins and @NHLFlyers on NBC was the most-watched Stadium Series game since 2014, producing a 1.38 overnight rating; up 17% from the same matchup in 2017.

Im at my nephews section final game. Kid got called for a penalty. Skates over to Box. Slips and his blade comes up and smashes the pane of glass. Never saw that before. So now we have to wait for new glass

They are up 3-1 with 3:26 left but who knows how break will affect both teams.

Surprised/disappointed about no trades so far today. Maybe Deadline Day will actually matter for the first time in a few years.

Sad to see Guhle go but love the pickup.
Ducks MB usually freaks out when anyone is traded away.   Not on this one.  Montour was pretty bad this year.

"Montour was expected to be an offensive guy but he never really brought his big shot to the NHL. More often than not he would just throw weak shots on net, which would drive me insane if it was at the end of a long attacking zone shift as he would too often give the opposition an easy out. I don't think his offense has made up enough for his play in the defensive zone which at times has been flat out bad."

Controlled zone entry stats for him look pretty great. Ranks 5th in the league. Legit top-4 D and a right shot. May allow them to move Risto for forward help.

A first for Montour seems like a lot, no? Even for a former UMass hockey legend (well, the two months or whatever he was there). Never mind throwing in a prospect too. Not sure I get that one.

I'm not the stat geek you are.  I bet he's #1 for giving up the most two-on-ones this year.  He constantly flies into the offensive zone with the puck and turns it over quickly with only one guy back.

This is what we are all thinking,

Jimmy Howard wasn't in net today, Gus Nyquist played, two of the likely wings to get moved. Nyquist has a no trade I believe, are there contending teams in need of a vet goalie?

He seems like another Risto. I’m still excited. Sounds like he’s been bad this year but that team is also a complete dumpster fire.

Nyquist is a nice pickup for the Sharks. Not sure what the conditions are but price seems a little light.
@CapFriendly: The conditional 3rd round pick will become a 2nd round pick in 2020 if the Sharks advance to the Stanley Cup final or if Nyquist re-signs with the Sharks.

The Nyquist trade in a vacuum is fine. But it's going to be an eventful offseason in SJ. Not only are Karlsson an Nyquist UFA but so is Pavelski (and obviously Thornton).

And that Martin Jones contract ain't looking so great now.

A late first has like a 40% chance of having a decent impact. Montour has been very bad this year but it's Carlyle, so the fresh start could help him love up to his massive potential. I like it from the Sabres end but there's definitely a chance this trade looks really bad in a couple years for either team.
