You sure? Ron maclean just said that the rangers can still win the cup and get #1.Bummer that the only chance the Rangers have at 1 is to lose.
If Carolina wins 1, there is no way Toronto will get a top 10 pick even if they lose in the play in roundYou sure? Ron maclean just said that the rangers can still win the cup and get #1.
I'm not sure he's correct but nobody on air corrected him.

Could you imagine adding Lafreniere to this young squad?Bummer that the only chance the Rangers have at 1 is to lose.

Just not Pittsburgh.
And, I was thinking, this is where Montreal lands the Canadien boy wonderSo this is where Carey Price stands on his head for a couple games and the Penguins shockingly win a draft lottery
No kidding. So now there’s actually incentive to lose play in round knowing #1 is up in the air?@charlieo_conn: This whole thing is both objectively hilarious and insanely stupid, so in other words it's basically peak NHL
i think this is inaccurate. rangers win and leafs and canes lose. rangers get worse pick, as canes hold the leafs pick, BUT, the leaf pick is top 10 protected meaning leafs keep the pick and canes get leafs 2021 1st. without the leafs pick in 2020, the rangers get the canes 1. leafs just need the 9 or 10 in phase 2 of the lottery. i think. If Carolina wins 1, there is no way Toronto will get a top 10 pick even if they lose in the play in round
The Rangers get the lesser pick of Carolina and Toronto, BUT Torontos is top 10 protected. so the only way Rangers get 1st pick is to lose.
@SWhyno: Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman says he's not surprised not to get No. 1 pick since 8 placeholder teams had 24.5% chance while Detroit had 18.5%No kidding. So now there’s actually incentive to lose play in round knowing #1 is up in the air?
No. The rest of the teams are in order by winning percentage. Worst the leafs can do if the lose in play in is 12. If the Leafs dont win 1, there is no way they can be 9 or 10. So Rangers beat Canes , leafs lose and Canes get 1, Rangers get Toronto pick at 12 and their owni think this is inaccurate. rangers win and leafs and canes lose. rangers get worse pick, as canes hold the leafs pick, BUT, the leaf pick is top 10 protected meaning leafs keep the pick and canes get leafs 2021 1st. without the leafs pick in 2020, the rangers get the canes 1. leafs just need the 9 or 10 in phase 2 of the lottery. i think.
Colorado has been screwed twice. I have no sympathy for anyone.@SWhyno: Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman says he's not surprised not to get No. 1 pick since 8 placeholder teams had 24.5% chance while Detroit had 18.5%
i think the 8 losers are not slotted....i think the 8 losers have a 2nd lottery, which is why 1 of them can could will get the 1. i think.No. The rest of the teams are in order by winning percentage. Technically they aren't playoff teams. It's a play-in round, not a playoff round. Not saying I am ok with it, just saying they aren't in the playoffs until they win that preliminary round. Technicality? Probably.Of all the ways for that to play out, it did so in the worst manner. How does a playoff team get first overall?
i’m wrong. the 8 losers have an equal shot at 1, then are seeded 9-15 based on win % or point % or something. leafs can only get to 11 or 12. canes are outside the 10 too. so, rangers have a 12.5 chance at the 1 if they lose to the canes. prolly better odds than winning the cup sadly.this
As long as it's no one in the central I do not care.I just wish people would make up their minds on which team the draft lottery conspiracy theory is supposed to favor:
Penguins
Oilers
Leafs
Canadiens
Blackhawks
Rangers
Coyotes
Did I forget anyone?
(Who are we kidding? Of course it’s the Penguins or Oilers.)
not players, but GMs. especially if they don’t have expectations pressure. The idea that players will tank so an 18 year old kid can immediately take one of their jobs is dumb.
I don't think teams would tank from the get-go but i think teams that lost 2 of first 3 could fold easily with plenty of available excuses.not players, but GMs. especially if they don’t have expectations pressure.
players have plenty of separate motivation to not have to be in a bubble for months for practically no financial incentive.
agreed. lots of motivation not to get off the matI don't think teams would tank from the get-go but i think teams that lost 2 of first 3 could fold easily with plenty of available excuses.
Fair enough, but there is now the very real possibility that a team that would have qualified for the playoffs in a normal season, if they lose, now have a chance at going 1st overall. That's my issue, the draft is ostensibly to make bad teams better, not widen the gap.Technically they aren't playoff teams. It's a play-in round, not a playoff round. All the experts are saying this draft is 8-12 very good players deep. Not that big of an issue here IMO.Fair enough, but there is now the very real possibility that a team that would have qualified for the playoffs in a normal season, if they lose, now have a chance at going 1st overall. In fairness, the Lightning have no chance at the pick anyway, but the league chose the dumbest way to run the lottery. All the experts are saying this draft is 8-12 very good players deep. Not that big of an issue here IMO.
GB, I see your obsession with #1 rankings continues![]()
I liked the way they did the whole thing. Don't know it could have been done any better. In fairness, the Lightning have no chance at the pick anyway, but the league chose the dumbest way to run the lottery.
Personally, the NFL's system would work, I think. Go in reverse order of finishing, and go from there.I liked the way they did the whole thing. Don't know it could have been done any better.
I had pretty much resigned myself to it. I'm not one of those crazies that think it's rigged, but I think this just shows, yet again, the lottery system isn't working very well as it's currently designed.AcerFC said:

So pretty much the first three appear to be a lock.
1) Unknown takes Lafreniere
2) LA takes Byfield
3) OTT takes Stutzle
4) DET - any of the DET guys here wanna make this pick?
5) OTT - @Bill Brasky can make this pick. I think he lives the closest to Ottawa.
6) ANA - I will make this pick.
7) NJ - anyone can claim this pick.
BUFF - @Aaron Rudnicki can make this pick.
After the Det guys settle on a pick, then Brasky can make pick 5.

In all these instances of reported players with the virus I generally don't see any report as to what affect it is having on them......other than that they have it. Yes, they are getting the virus but is it affecting them worse than any other virus? Sick for a few days then back to normal? Hospitalization required?
The NHL produced an update on the league's latest round of COVID-19 testing results on Monday.
"As of Monday, July 6, the NHL has had 396 Players report to Club training/practice facilities for optional participation in Phase 2 activities," the NHL said in a statement. "There have been in excess of 2,900 COVID-19 tests administered (including more than 1,400 this past week) to this group of Players. Those tests have resulted in a total of 23 returning confirmed positive test results for COVID-19. In addition, since June 8 (the opening of Phase 2), the League is aware of 12 additional Players who have tested positive for COVID-19 outside of the Phase 2 Protocol. All Players who have tested positive have been self-isolated and are following CDC and Health Canada protocols." This means that nine new players have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last week.

include the play-in round?we’re doing a huge playoff pool this year, right?
