2019-2020 NHL Season Thread (3 Viewers)

I was looking at the forgettable Islanders-Panthers series the NHL is trying to hide. I had forgotten that Andrew Ladd was still on the Isles roster. A 34 year old 5.5 mil healthy scratch. Only 3 more years left on that contract.

Kyle Clifford sending Kukan off the ice with a huge hit behind Korpisalo's cage not 5 mins into the game.

Leafs coming in with a chip (and hopefully learning from their opposition about what solid forechecking can do).

Muzzin with a scary neck injury, gets carted off the ice.

Hopefully it's just precautionary as you never want to see that happen to any player. But it took a loooooooong time to get him off the ice in an eerily silent building.

Even if he is OK, I imagine there is some protocol about allowing him to play after a hospital visit outside the bubble?

Let's go Canes.  This one will be decided in the first period.  Think NYR come out on fire and on to Thursday.  If Rangers come out flat.  Canes soar to ECF and lose.  Don't think the goaltending is there.

One cavat, if the Canes play like they did in front of Ayers, the sweep every series.  But that just isn't possible but its nice to know that they got that in them.

I haven't seen Brendan Smith throw a hit like that since about a month after he got dealt from Detroit.

Very weird to see a hit like that and not hear a massive crowd reaction.

Didn't catch the game, what was dumb about play? Noticed they let Eberle hang around and have all day with the puck which led to a goal or two.
nothing new, but they are atrocious in their own zone.  been that way for a while.  blue line is weak but it’s all around.  they also can’t stay out of the box in this series which is killing them.

Bob hasn’t played well this year but the contrast between the Jackets structure and Florida running around chasing is exposing his career numbers and contract for being significantly system based.

I thought for sure this was going to be about something Matheson did. And then reading post-game recaps, realize that was part of it. The team seems generally undisciplined so far in post-season play, and need to retain some composure to avoid this being 2016 redux.

Wasn't meant to be. Carolina is such a solid team with underrated talent all over.

Very optimistic for the future though.

Playoffs Canes may be the scariest bunch of jerks in the playoffs.

ETA: Was glad to see the handshake line at the end. Sure, had a lot of fistbumps, but it's a great tradition and glad it survived inside the bubble.

Yeah, glad to see the fistbumps. Tough watching Lundquist possibly go out like this though.

The NHL is showing these other sports how it’s done.
Bubble...well done graphics screens...utilizing each team's goal songs and some fan chants (guessing that is for all of them...or perhaps done only for the "local broadcast"...unsure about that but its cool).

Shockingly Milbury wanted Tampa's second goal taken away for an imaginary  "distinct kicking motion".

Boucher was quick to correct him.

Milbury : NBC Announcing team ::  Jack Johnson : Penguins defense

To explain, in the series preview Dom from The Athletic crunched the Analytics on the Penguins defense. He blasted Jack Johnson as not only below Replacement level but the Penguins series numbers improved if they sat him and only played 5 defense.

Milbury is not only below Replacement level but going with 2 announcers would boost ratings.

Agree. Well handled all around.

One thing I think they can improve is goal horns. Not really as well versed on other goal horns aside from my home team, but noticed that when Toronto scored, they actually used the Marlies' horn (which unfortunately sounds a lot like Boston's. Yes, I know that one as it's unfortunately been seared into my brain by trauma).

These are all digitized anyway, so just use the sound of the team that's supposed to be "home" rather than a neutral 3P horn.

I am pretty sure they have been using the home goal horn for each team when they score, in both rinks.

Solid game -- was watching it out of the corner of my eye given work meetings through today, but Lightning sure jumped out firing in the first, and then kept pressure and intensity on when letting the Bruins back in the game to close out.

Strangely, I care way less about watching these seeding games -- they aren't as meaningful to me for some reason as the regular series battles. But still amazing hockey so there's that.

And a matt Murray bad goal on que to give up the lead. But the entire team went to sleep up 3-1. What an embarrassment. They will get eliminated by the 24th seed. Worst playoff loss in the history of the league.

They gotta get rid of this crowd noise. I watched the bolts game on local tonight and they didn’t have it - so much better.
