2019-2020 NHL Season Thread (2 Viewers)

Watched that third period. That turned awfully quickly. Almost a comeback by Carolina, too. What, did J. Williams have two tonight?

And that hit on Staal by McAvoy made me feel nauseated.

I think the Blues are starting to feel it. Hard to tell, though, since I only get a period in before falling asleep. Can Colorado/Phoenix not take a turn at the late start?

Rather play the Islanders than the Flyers?
It's my understanding they reseed after this round. Assuming other series leads hold,  if Flyers win, it's Flyers-Isles and Bruins-Bolts.  If Canadiens win, Bolts-Habs and Bruins-Isles.

So he'd rather play the Islanders than your Lightning.

Yea I screwed that up. We will get the Canadians, Islanders or Bruins. Obviously want Montreal but that’s unlikely so give me Boston. At least the games will be fun. This CBJ style of grind down hockey kind of sucks.

I don't see the Yotes having a chance either ... the Avs are just too good. They would have been my pre-playoffs pick to win it all.

Apparently last Friday was a fluke for the Habs. Philly didn't show up, made Montreal look good.CH are not a good team and now won't draft until late teens. :kicksrock:

Canadiens are a tough team to play against. It apoears AV has realized you can't beat them with quick counter run and gun and decided to get downin the mud with Montreal. . Flyers 4th line of Pitlick,  Bunnaman and Thompson is a bunch of big body grinders who wouldn't start together vs say Pittsburgh, Washington and Tampa.

Canadiens need at least one more scoring forward and for guys like Kotkaniemi to continue to improve.

@charlieo_conn: This isn't the Flyers playing their "best" style by any means. It's not their best lineup. But it's tough to deny that this mix of style, personnel, and Carter Hart in case of emergencies has Montreal at a loss of how to create anything remotely resembling threatening offense.

Certainly isn't an entertaining series.

Montreal needs lots of things.  Scorers for sure. They need to get whatever they can for drouin. I doubt sergachev is available but drouin needs to go. They need some size up front. Size, with some skill. And people who can bury the puck. Hopefully caufield pans out.

I dont think montreal is anywhere near to being competitive. When  kk, suzuki and caufield reach any kind of prime, price, weber, and gallagher will be done.

The mistakes bergevin has made have ruined any good he has done with his good moves.

Anyway. Congrats to the Flyers and Gritty.

Yep, it's horse #### of the highest order.  I get that it's tough given the set-up, but for four of the first five Blues/Canucks games to be at 9:30 pm local STL time is just ridiculous.  The NHL and nobody else cares, I get it, but that doesn't mean we can't be annoyed about it.

@grantmccagg: Perhaps the best thing that will come from this playoff besides it getting KK & Suzuki's feet wet is that Bergevin has ample evidence that Drouin isn't working out in Mtl. He's still young enough & possesses enough talent to have someone taking a flyer on him. Maybe at the draft.

Teams down 3-1

Hurricanes
Blue Jackets
Coyotes
Hawks

Of those I think CBJ has the best chance to force a game 7, followed by the Yotes.  Hawks seem done to me, and the Canes have too many injuries
These Game 5s are great for taking a little time off to catch up on a show, spend more time with the wife, etc and recharge a bit. If the series gets closed out, you probably didn't miss much anyway. And if it continues, you come back for a much more interesting Game 6. Win win.

Even Kathryn took tonight off.

Caps look like they have other plans for the weekend
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen them play this badly for this long. The whole time in Toronto, defense has been bad, passing has been awful, goaltending has been disappointing, and, yeah, they just look like they have no interest this whole time.

But I guess they are pretty good at starting fights.

Somebody somewhere wondered if a team gets down 3-0 or 3-1 if they won’t just pack it in to get out of the bubble. Kind of interesting to follow. Caps are the first case study in that and they sure look like they are ready to go.

So my son is 12 and plays hockey, and they have to wear cages on their helmets.

How come the pros don’t do this? Is it just a pride thing? Or do they think their vision is so impeded that it becomes more dangerous if they have one?

earlier I checked my phone and saw the Caps were down 0-2 and being outshot 7-1 10 min in and thought, oh neat they are mailing it in.

then I checked back and saw they were pushing back and made it 2-2 and realized, they do care they’re just not any good.

:goodposting:

good job by AV in this series, Habs have trouble playing against themselves and it really showed today.  great adjustment.

games 1&3 the Habs were fine but couldn’t pop one.

pretty crazy to give up 5 goals and be down 3-1.

I only saw a few periods but I thought they looked good in the round robin

I'm sold on Suzuki. the kid looks like a legit threat and i think you give him a little help, along with the others, and you guys certainly aren't that far off.

Is Drouin already done? I mean I know some team will keep running him out there but there’s no chance of him being a very good player basically?
