This is the right answer.  That way the Capellas of the world get their "eye test" Alabama in every year and the rest of us get our "results on the field" champs and small school dreamers in every year.  Also, quarters should be on campus of the top 4 conference champs.
Cmon...the only ‘eye test’ selection of Bama was ‘17, when they won.  By far the least worthy selections have been based on Conf Champs.

Oh come on.....can we get one competitive semifinal game ever? Having so many blowouts routinely in the final four shows 4 teams is plenty. Most years only two teams deserve the title shot and now at least we get the semifinals to show people that's the case.

nope.  8 teams is the future.   Maybe more once the NCAA and sponsors see how much more money playoff games will generate.

Again, the 4th seed has won the title 40% of the time. It's not #1 and #2 always blowing out #3 and #4.

The only real argument anymore is the G5 argument from the anti-trust position. Given what we just saw with OU/LSU and so far what we've seen in this second game, adding four more teams to this won't increase the "good football" we would all get to see. We'd get even more poundings.

With 141 rush yards tonight, J.K. Dobbins (1,970) has now passed Eddie George (1,927) for the most rush yards in a single-season for an Ohio State player.

Wow!

Are we going to base the future on tonights games?   again no one wants to see ND and ISU playing in whatever bowl they were in today.    But for arguments sake ...

LSU vs Wisconsin

Ohio State vs Baylor

Clemson vs Oregon

Oklahoma vs Georgia

All of those games would be fun to watch.

Capella represents a very legit opinion in this thread: put in the best "other" team every year.

Conference champs should have a shot.  So should the G5.  And add in 2 wild cards, it's the best option we have.  The top 4 conference champs should host the quarters each year.  Better than the tripe bowls we get now.

You’d need to exclude Wisconsin for Memphis though as a G5. My biggest gripe would be Baylor, Georgia, and Oregon all lost twice. I like 4 teams because it keeps the regular season meaningful and think including those teams would cheapen the seasons had by LSU, OSU, and Clemson.

no way.  A lot of conferences are garbage.  They don't deserve to make playoffs because they won their trash conference.
Conferences are going to be realigned in a few years, but it still seems the right way. Let the committee argue over the seeding.

Sounds good...with true wild card slots regardless of conference (meaning they could both come from the same one). The eye test has proven to be a legit selection process.
