until one can establish that Anteaternintendo can be told what to do, real PGs are superfluous, if not jusplain in the way. that was the reason for Jrue in the 1st place - a non-ball-dominant point so the Freak could rule the world from the top of half-court. in one series Giannis has proved that he wont trash a disastrous FT regimen, play the post or guard the other team's big. that's where 95% of the fixing lives

i don't think i've read or heard any suggestions that Giannis is somehow uncoachable, or not working on his game. he strikes me as a guy who wants it really badly, but for whom it's not natural at all.

he's a grinder in a superhuman body that lacks that natural sports coordination or "it". (eta: having a hard time putting it in to words. it's that sort of innate understanding of how to move athletically and pick up sports that some kids have naturally and some don't.. that sort of free flowing, fluidity when they pick up a glove/stick/ball and are just good at it)

and i don't think anyone wants him running the offense.. unless the offense is just "let Giannis try to dunk on every possession".

Giannis is on all my dynasty teams because i saw the raw skills early and have always loved his love of the game and i've always appreciated his loyalty to a small-market city. but the game is changing, he knows he's the Hinge, he knows the leverage the Hinge has on other teams and, while i dont see him being difficult, i see him staring right thru Bud or anyone who doesnt do what he can do telling him how to do what he does best or when to do what, hence the evidence i've already laid out

Pro basketball is more psychology than game plans imo.

If you don't utilize the former, then the latter isn't going to be very effective.

I think it's been a steady trend for quite a while now.

Guys like Riley and Jackson were fairly adept at reaching the guys who ultimately won or lost games.

I think they can only review whistles, boundaries, and flagrants.  If the contact in question wasn't called, it can't be reviewed.

maybe i'm crazy, but perhaps it's finally time to let Brooks and Van Gundy ride off in to the sunset in favor of younger assistants who should be given a chance?

VanGundy has had an absolutely stunning (for me) career arc.  One year at Wisconsin where he took a very promising team lead by senior Michael Finley to a bottom finish in the Big Ten, and he parlayed that into a job with the Heat and a 25 year NBA coaching career.  I know he made the finals that one season when Dwight Howard was on top of the world.  Just incredibly impressive to me this guy managed to keep this thing going this long on nothing but smoke and mirrors.

Yea he was way way way ahead of everybody else with the 3 point game. Got a mediocre 2009 Magic team to the finals with that offense. Now that everybody has caught up maybe he’s not the same coach but he was on a run there for a while.

I'm surely showing my age and almost certainly wrong, but I can't help noting that Riley and Jackson both wore power suits with rolex and big rings, both cut imposing figures on the bench.  Its hard seeing Bud in that team-issued track suit trying to get Giannis to stop jacking 3's early in the shot clock in a playoff game.

I watched every single Pels game this year. SVG seems like a likable and personable coach, but his clock management was as bad as any I have ever witnessed, particularly for the pros. He came to us hyped as a defensive specialist, and while I know NBA defense is almost non-existent these days, ours was abhorrent. And his substitutions were often questionable as well. He'd have players in at the clutch moments at the end of games that had repeatedly proven they couldn't handle the pressure. We lost so many games in the waning moments (usually after holding a decent lead), just throwing errant passes or taking ill-advised shots. It was peak frustration as a fan.

I'm not sad to see him go. I have no idea who they might be able to get, but it couldn't be much worse, IMO. 

ETA: just heard them talking about this on the radio. We lost a league-high 14 games after holding a double-digit lead

Pelicans assistant coach Teresa Weatherspoon is expected to emerge as a candidate to replace Stan Van Gundy in New Orleans, league sources say.

I will say this... People around the Pels organization really like her. She got promoted to full assistant last year. And she was a hell of a baller herself back in the day. She knows the game. Just don't know about her coaching chops. 

Kara Lawson is also a top option for Boston.  Becky Hammon's name is getting thrown around as well.  If there isn't a female coach hired this year, could easily be just a season or two away.

Curious to know what the players would honestly think.  The NBA is more progressive than the other pro leagues, but it still feels like a big leap to make in the hyper-macho environment of professional men's sports.

Washington and coach Scott Brooks couldn't come to an agreement on a new deal and are agreeing to part ways, sources tell ESPN. Brooks' deal expired after the playoffs.

Probably gave him a low ball offer so they could say "couldn't come to an agreement".  Brooks is a good guy. He's just not much of a coach.  He couldn't win it all with Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka, and Fisher in 2012.  He couldn't win it all with Durant, Westrbook, Ibaka, Adams, and Kanter in 2014.  He's had good rosters and didn't get it done.

Rumors persist the Wiz never spent more than 15 mins practicing defense.  He has stunted the growth of Rui, Deni, and others right before our eyes.  Heck, he kept Harden coming off the bench for 3 f*ing seasons in OKC.  He hates young players cause he has no idea how to make them better unless they are already awesome (Durant).  Harden averaged 12 pts per game under Brooks.  He averaged over 26 each season the next 6 years in HOU.  It's like he didn't even know Harden was good.  Which is why Ish Smith from his OKC teams is of course getting playing time at age 35 w the Wiz.  Go w the old dude rather than figure out how to get the young guys involved.

Bradley Beal stood up for Brooks.  But Bradley Beal's 2 pro coaches have been Brooks and Randy Whitman.  So yeah, Brooks seems good when you roll him up against Randy Whitman.  He only played one college season, and I'll grant that that was for Donovan who is a really good coach.  But still, Beal has no point of reference when backing Brooks as coach.  I think he's just scared the next coach will make him play defense for more than 5 mins a game.

They don't immediately get better with this move.  They need to hire someone that can 1) coach D; 2) can coach up young players; 3) has an offense that involves more than 2 players.

I think the GM did a good job this year.  Hoping he makes the right hire.
