2020-21 NBA *Playoffs* Thread: Bucks are the champs and you can take that to the bank bromigos (1 Viewer)

I'm starting to think/fear that Giannis doesn't play at all this series and that the Bucks are intentionally being overly optimistic about his progress just to make it a little harder for Phoenix to gameplan.

At the very least, I bet the soonest he plays will be G3 in Milwaukee.  That'll be almost 2 weeks since the initial injury.  I don't doubt that Giannis wants to play and will do everything in his power to do so, but between the Bucks and Giannis's handlers, I just can't see them letting him risk his long-term health.

Bucks' co-owner Marc Lasry this morning on CNBC:  "I'm pretty sure he'll play in the series.  The question is when."

I can't see him not playing.  Hyper-extensions always looks way worse than they actually are.  It's cringe-worthy no doubt, but it's no ACL tear.

I'm still up for a bet that he indeed ends up taking the court, if you're so inclined.  Maybe not game 1, but by game 3.

Bucks will be nice value after game 1 (and could be great after game 2), if that's how it plays out.  Either way, good luck and GO BUCKS!

if he's close to sound, i'd give Anteaternintendo the extra couple days, mostly because i don't think he has a loading gear. if there's no way to know until you throw him out there, throw him out there

I'd sit him tonight and see what happens.  You win, he sits until Game 3.  You lose, let him play on Thursday.  All you need is to split these first two games.

And I agree, I don't think that dude's motor goes anything except 100%.

Bucks fan here...the Suns are a horrible matchup for the Bucks and are my pick for The Finals.

Milwaukee gives up a lot of good looks from 3 and Phoenix does a great job spacing and getting.the ball to shooters while Paul & Ayton have formed a nice pick and roll combo.  If the Bucks play drop coverage, the Suns have two great midrange shooters in Booker & Paul and Ayton has done a great job hitting the offensive boards.

On the other side of the court, the Suns have something the Nets and Hawks struggled with...a defender who can matchup with Khris Middleton.  Bridges defense is underrated and he'll make Middleton work for his points.  Same with Paul on Holiday.  When Giannis plays the Suns also have Crowder, who does a good job making him work for his buckets as well (see the Heat victory last season with him).

Add in home court for Phoenix and this series looks more like a Suns in 5 type series than it does Bucks in anything.  Hope I'm wrong, but I think this coin flip between the two teams doesn't end with the Bucks landing the top prize this time around (See - Alcindor). 🤔 If the Bucks had a healthy Giannis and Divincenzo I'd go Bucks in 6, but that's just how the 2021 playoffs have been.

When the Bucks play PJ Tucker the Suns will be able to rest Booker or Paul on him.  His shot hasn't been there of late and offensive rebounding has been his contribution to the Bucks offense.  Meanwhile Holiday will get worn down guarding Paul/Booker and Middleton may end up on Booker a lot as well.  Bud seems to have two decent options: play Connaughton more than Tucker or go big with some minutes with 3 of Giannis/Lopez/Portis/Tucker and try and bludgeon the Suns inside, get Ayton in foul trouble, etc.  If Bud plays Tucker more, I wouldn't be shocked if he's matched up with Booker a bit and they switch everything.  Making Booker the guy who they make hit a ton of mid-rangers to beat them.

Best best for Milwaukee is attacking the rim to get Ayton in foul trouble and turning the series into a rock fight.  The Bucks still have to push for easier baskets in transition, but they have to take away the wide open 3's and outrebound Phoenix to have a chance.  Can the Bucks play big and take away open looks from outside?  I'm skeptical.  Which means we'll see the Bucks play small at times and get slowly picked apart.  Sad bromingo trumpet.

...and Giannis WILL absolutely play in this series.  No doubt.  He's a beast and will be on the court as much as he possibly can.  He's an old school player that way.

Unfortunately his ability to put up 30 and 15 is the difference between a competitive series and one where the Suns pull away.

Not sure how Phoenix went from a team that no one thought had a chance in these playoffs to the clear favorite.  They really have not proven that much in these playoffs.  This series is a toss-up, going at least 6 games.

Thanks Jimmy

Everyone considered the Bucks the better team going into the playoffs.  Now everyone is making Phoenix the clear favorite.  It is just odd that the conventional wisdom changes so easily.
Not everyone.

Not everything is as absolute as you think it is.

They’re not that big of favorites and Giannis was potentially missing games. It’s not that odd and the Suns have looked better in the playoffs.

Are you going to act this obtuse?  By everyone I mean everyone as a group, as in the overwhelming opinion as expressed by the pundits and Vegas odds.
Are you going to tell us about bunting again?

Sheez

The game is on; maybe we could comment on that instead?

Instead of you waxing on about your betting hot takes that are so obvious (to you) that I don't know why you haven't mortgaged your house.

Can you drop the snark and other bs.

What were is the Suns - 170? You are acting like this is the 2018 Warriors vs. Lebron. Plus the Suns are rested, have home court advantage and who knew what Giannis would give them.

Were -205.   But going into the tourny Phx was +2500 and Mil was about +850 even with a relatively weak record and little chance of home court advantage. It was pretty certain Giannis was going to be ready by game 2.  He was likely going to play game 7 against the Hawks.

What does before the playoffs started have to do with anything? Did anyone know how effective Giannis would be? Anthony Davis tried to come back, went 4 minutes and looked like he should have had a cane to help him get up and down the court. Little chance of home court? They were guaranteed home court against everyone except the Jazz.

I was talking about Mil having home court.  Nothing change relative between the two teams regarding home court advantage since the start if the tournament.

That's little chance!
