2020 (now 2021) Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Closing ceremonies 8/8 | USA finishes with most gold, silver, bronze AND overall medals (3 Viewers)

There was an age requirement for women's skateboarding helmets, they said.  If you were under 18 (I believe), you had to wear a helmet.  Over 18, it was optional.  The announcers even made a point about it, saying that anyone you see in the event wearing a helmet is under 18, anyone without a helmet is over 18.
This makes no sense...

It’s disappointing, but I’m willing to grant pretty wide latitude and grace to someone who was sexually assaulted by a team doctor.

The whole gymnast thing is uncomfortable. You know it wrecks their bodies physically and the mental side of it with all the rapey coaches.   Plus they give up so much of their young life to it. More thn the skaters as there isn't the rink time issues.

The bad internet will cancel her which is tough.  Maybe it happening in the middle of the night helps.
"All the rapey coaches"  what the hell are you talking about?  Wow

Wouldn't you like to have like, even some minimal knowledge of the situation before this kind of statement?
Nah...I made my point.  If shes physicaly hurt, then that's  understandable.  If she quit cause she can't handle the pressure, that is not cool.  I don't need more information to make that determination.

That's really a false choice. It basically assumes there is no legitimate reason to withdraw outside of physical injury. I'm inclined to extend a little more grace to someone who has already done so much for our country (under tremendous pressure) and for the health and safety of her fellow gymnasts.

Wonder what sponsor's contracts will look like going forward?  I don't have the slightest clue who her sponsors are or what she's worth, but you have to think those companies are furious.
I would guess many if not most of her sponsors see a great opportunity here and are not at all furious.

Shame on you.  My choice isn't false, it's just mine.  I will tell you you have your opinion and I respect it.  We don't agree on this at all.  And that's ok.  What you won't see me doing is telling you that you are wrong in such a horrible way.  We just disagree.  Mmmkay?
I hope you have a terrific day!

I’m sure one of the elite Olympic athletes ever is devastated by some average bro’s determination of her status.
I really wasn't remotely interested in how she feels about my Opinion.  I guess if I did, I would post on her twitter or IG or whatever else she has.  But I don't.   Not sure why you would pull that out.  What's your point exactly?  Are we not allowed to have opinions if the person we have an opinion about doesn't care about it?  Should we talk to people and gauge their reactions to our opinions before we have them?  Should we not post opinions ever..unless we are sure it will have an impact on the subject?

This is a very bizarre post.  Can you elaborate?

i’m not gonna get too worked up about people i hear about once or twice every 4 years or so.  it doesn’t affect my life at all.  that said, the olympics are beginning to or have run their course IMO.  i don’t think populations want to host these and there are less and less bids.  it’s simply a cash grab for all involved.  i’m more than a little creeped out when i see overzealous coaches and hear disgusting stories.

Feel bad for her and really hope she comes back strong in the individual competition.  So much pressure heaped on a young person.  She now has her own goat imoji and taking photo ops with hashtags like this

#nocompetition?  She's probably feeling pressure to be perfect and she doesn't have to.  Tom Brady is the goat and lost 3 super bowls. No one is perfect.

I believe she shakes it off and wins the individual gold medal (assuming it isn't a physical injury).  Pulling hard for her.

I'm 100% pulling for her too--as well as every American there.

Possibly.  I'm really not sure how to look at this.  She'll be given grace from mostly everyone if this was a mental thing, and thats fine.

How would you view it as a teammate though?  Say she goes on to compete and excel in her individual comps....I'd be pretty pissed as a teammate knowing we could have gotten gold instead of silver because Biles decided it was mentally too much.

Tom Brady's not getting a pass if he goes 1-6 with 2 picks in the first half of the super bowl and tells the coach he's just not feeling it today and wants to sit out.

That part is being missed consistently by her defenders.  I believe its tough..its the Olympics..its SUPPOSED to be tough isn't it?  What's with this cop out of  "Oh so much pressure being heaped on one person"  Why is she different than ANY OTHER ATHLETE there?

I'm just saying..if she quit on her team cause of the pressure..Shes a poor Olympian and forever loses this GOAT moniker.

Much of it is self-induced pressure that the other girls do not have.  She listened to the hype and wore the goat imoji on her leotard prior to the games.  She posed for photo shoots billing her is unbeatable and has no competition.  Now, she's in the spot light and feels she has to live up to all of it.  None of the other girls have that same amount of stress.

Sure, they're nervous and stressed, but they are not being billed as the unstoppable force where everyone else is playing for second type of thing that Biles is facing.  That's the added pressure that I mentioned.  Again, she allowed it and embraced it.  Now she's possibly dealing with it.

I wish they'd have waited until after the Olympics to cement her is the unbeatable icon that she is labeled.  She may still be that athlete but it may turn out that she is putting too much undo pressure on herself to perform flawlessly.  We'll see how it unfolds.

I agree with you that "IF" she just bailed on the team, that's a bad look.  We don't know if that's the case, though.

There's certainly a lot of info we don't know...but for whatever the reason, it sure looks like she quit on her team. GOATs don't do that.

Youre 1000% correct.  I'm hoping she didn't bail.   This is all about if.  I made no assumptions on this.  My entire premise is a big fat "IF"  Now...It's likely we will never know if she bailed, until someone comes out with a book a few years later.

over on USA network i was watching synchronized kite flying and the rules were confusing.  you get extra points for height, but deductions for oscillation?

Maybe I dunno we tone down the hype trains.  Seems like when NBC just goes all in bad things happen.  Biles isn't bob and Dan or Jen wieber but she will be in that over hyped conversation about whether it's fair to do

for nbc it’s less about the sport, it’s more about the human element.  this is a way to get mary housewife or johnny flagwaver interested in things like white water rafting slalom.  networks have done this for years to get viewers.  it was ok when there were 3 networks and UHF.  nowadays, most people just don’t care that some rich family sacrificed time and money to send their kid to swim boarding school.  they need an angle, biles was their everything this year and it doesn’t seem like it will end well.

Building off the Brady analogy, if Brady can't get out of his head, at some point the coach puts in the backup to give the team a chance. In this case, the backups to Simone Biles are pretty darn good. If Biles continues to compete but can't get out of her head, maybe they don't even get silver. But if Biles sits out, the backups could give the team the best chance to get the silver even if they aren't the best chance at getting gold. The other women deserve a chance to get the best medal they can and Biles has an obligation to step aside if she can't do it herself.

Clicked on my apple news app and the headline was the team result

I hate when the Olympics are overseas
Reminds me of the old days when Posty started multiple threads announcing the the results in the title so there was no way to avoid the spoiler. What a guy.

Anyway, yeah - two big events I was looking forward to watching this evening and I already know the results just by opening my twitter app earlier.

I absolutely LOVED the live coverage from the bar in Seward, AK watching their local hero win gold in the 100m Breastroke.  That was terrific.
Hmmmm....maybe not a bar.  Related:  I was watching from my neighbor's garage cantina and might have had a few too many of his strong IPAs.   Still, this is COOL!

Feel bad for her. However, she did not look good over the weekend. I felt like Jade deserved to advance to be honest.

Im in the Detroit area...Do you guys get CBC On your cable?  Canadian Broadcasting?  They do a great job with coverage.   Far less about the human element(there is some) and far more competition.   I know some love the human element and can't get enough of it, I could do with less.  CBC does a good job with the two IMO.

So the non-Russian "Russia" cheaters get medals even though the country is banned?
Putin is laughing is arsky off as his subjects lay precious metals at his feet.
