2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (1 Viewer)

What's going on with Kyrie, the Nets and the NBA?

I understand that Kyrie will be allowed to play in road games but not allowed to play in home games.

Can he practice at the Nets facilities or is he only allowed to practice on the road?

Lance Stephenson

He's on fire.
Bill Simmons had a funny (i thought) comment on these guys returning to the NBA after years long layoffs and playing well.. maybe NBA basketball isn't as hard as we pretend?

Stephenson has barely played since 2015-16 and he rolls in off the street like this?

you've got guys from the G league posting numbers. dudes who haven't played organized basketball in years hitting rosters and putting up effective minutes.

the hell is going on?

Celtics are cursed. Blew another 25 point lead to lose to Knicks on fade away three at the buzzer banked in by Barrett.

The teams they're facing haven't studied film on these guys and don't force them to the weak parts of their games

They're frequently playing against other replacement players and bench guys who aren't that much better than them

These few games that they get called in for is their shot. They put everything they have into these games, and probably shoot more than they should to try to get noticed. You don't hear a lot about the guys who shoot 1 of 10 and get benched, but you hear all about the guys who do well.

Bad loss for CHI but not worried. Pick and rolls killed us tonight and showed Vucevic issues defensively. Badly need a #4 till PWill comes back. Also Ayo Dosumo I love and not sure why he lasted to the 2nd round. Might be one of the steals of the draft.

Wolves with their 4th straight win against super tough competition to get to .500 and the 8th seed. 5th seed is optimistic, but doable.

I was thinking about the Nets—and I am wondering: hypothetically—let’s assume Kyrie does not get vaccinated—which means he can play on the road—but not at home games.   My question is—would this incentivize the Nets to actually not have home court for the playoffs?  Would it be better go to into a potential 7 game series potentially having one extra game at home and one fewer game with Kyrie—or one fewer game at home but with one more game with Kyrie?

I would think having Kyrie on the court would mean more to the Nets chances of winning than playing in front of a bunch of fat guys in Yankee jackets yelling slurs at the opposing team.

Lol. Honestly—I was kinda thinking the same thing.  If I’m the Nets—I think sacrificing home court advantage in order to have Kyrie for an additional game is not a bad trade off.  I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Nets rest guys in the second half of the season—knowing that their playoff seeding is not as important as it is for other contenders in the East.  While other teams fight and battle for playoff positioning—they could just focus on health and being at full energy levels for the post season.   The result of the way this Kyrie thing is playing out might be that the Nets actually get a competitive advantage from it.

I'm skeptical that they will make major trades with an interim GM.
Yeah might be right there.

Simons looks like the real deal. Hes always been able to light it up and now is getting the opportunity. I think he's a RFA this off-season.

Portland is in a terrible spot with a mediocre aging team with a bloated cap. Lillard hasn't been very good this year either.  I'd cash in sooner than later when he can show he's back healthy. I'd guess that time is probably draft time but more exciting to talk about it happening before the deadline

Yes, summer will probably be when it happens. He’s had the injury since at least last summer. There shouldn’t be a need to rush him back this year. Regardless teams should be a little wary about trading for him this season. It will be interesting to see how much his trade value has taken a hit.

Among some of the impactful players I think are sure to be moved next month are Jerami Grant and Myles Turner.

Yes. Which is convenient, because they're playing at the level of a 10 seed right now. :bag:

has anyone checked on @Frostillicus  :pokey:

I couldn't believe B.I. actually MADE a clutch shot!! I was screaming for anyone but him to get the ball in the last 2 mins... well, before he hit the 3 threes lol. It was a nice change for him. Dude is money during the game, but has let us down so many time in the clutch moments. Hoping this gives him a little "closing" confidence going forward. Man, I think this team would be really good if we could get Zion back. :kicksrock:

That was dumb.

But, the Wolves showed why they're still a bottom seed type playoff team. Four straight wins vs. sub-500 teams is nice, but this should have been the fifth before a brutal stretch of schedule. A chance to actually get over .500 and they came out and played terrible defense for most of the game, then turned it on at the end to tie it up but left that opening for Ingram to win it. They've blown their last four opponents out of the water and I think they got used to that and expected to coast to another easy win. Oops.

Now they go: @Memphis, Golden State, @New York, @Atlanta, Brooklyn, @Portland, @golden State, @Phoneix, Utah.

Ouch.

Nice to pick up a win against a hot Philly team.  Waiting for the other shoe to drop as we never have nice things.

I thought Mitch Kupchak would suck...opps, I was wrong.  Pretty strong track record.

Now imagine the following lineup made up of 6 years of Mitch Kupchak draft picks since 2014:

PG: Lamelo Ball

SG: D'Angelo Russell

SF: Brandon Ingram

PF: Julius Randle

C: Ivica Zubac

Bench: PJ Washington, Devonte Graham, Miles Bridges, Larry Nance Jr, Vernon Carey Jr as a benchwarmer

@wojespn

ESPN Sources: The Atlanta Hawks are trading forward Cam Reddish to the New York Knicks for a deal that includes a protected 2022 first-round pick via Charlotte. Knicks also acquire Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick via Brooklyn in trade.

There goes him being included in a 3-team Simmons trade that I was trying to put together!

The Bucks are curb stomping the Warriors. 77-38 at the half.
My son and I were in attendance...with two GSW fans.  It was beautiful.  Hopefully the Warriors make it even better by being motivated tonight to beat the Bulls.

After the Bucks handled the Nets & Warriors in the last week on national television...Giannis just take the lead in the MVP race from Jokic, Durant, and Steph?

Yes

Iguodala's pass yesterday may be the best pass I've ever seen.  Still not sure if it was incredible court vision and execution...or a brain fart where he somehow got lucky.

I'm here for your weekly "Hey, Mavs are starting to look pretty damn good" reminder. Of course, we have trade deadline shenanigans to screw it up just like the last time we looked really good and added Rondo.

Stopped hottest team in the NBA Memphis cold last night. Defense is no joke even with Luka out there.

Any of you Wisconsin guys want my Bucks/Wiz tickets for February 2?  LL section 115, I'll sell them for $50 each, which is way below face value and less than you'd pay on StubHub with fees.  Let me know.

There's a real lack of dumb fake trades in this thread lately. So let me get the ball rolling:

TIMBERWOLVES give Malik Beasley ($14.5M, 2 years), Taurean Price ($13.1M, expiring), Jaden McDaniels ($2.1M, 3 years) and a 1st round pick and receive Jerami Grant ($20M, 2 years) and Kelly Olynyk ($12.2M, 3 years).

PISTONS give Jerami Grant and Kelly Olynyk and recieve Ricky Rubio ($17.8M, expriing), Beasley, Issac Okoro ($6.7M, 3 years) and a Wolves first round pick.

BLAZERS give C.J. McCollum ($30.9M, 3 years) and receive Taurean Prince, Dylan Windler ($2.2M, 2 years), Jaden McDaniels, and a 1st from the Cavs.

CAVS give Windler, Rubio, Okoro, and a 1st round pick and get McCollum.

Wolves get Grant and Olynyk to shore up their frontcourt. Pistons get $18M expiring, a young player in Okoro, and a 1st. Blazers get $13M expiring, a nice young piece in McDaniels, and a 1st. and the Cavs get McCollum.

Blazers get the short end of that and Wolves the long. Grant only for Wolves, Olynyk to Portland and it's better, but i still dont think Blazers do it. I like Malik, Jaden & a first for Grant, i like Cleveland using Rubio's expiring and non-contributing talent to wind up w McCollum
