2021-22 NBA Thread: Bill Simmons furiously recording 2.5 hour long pod about how Boston is still better than Golden State (1 Viewer)

LeBron the player is not a cancer, but GM LeBron? Win at all costs and on his terms, but if he's wrong you're responsible. When the team lacks the means to get better he bolts and the team rebuilds.

This is not a new thing and part of the price of admission.
if Lebron is in fact making GM decisions, how is his role as defacto GM any different than an actual GM?

if the team sucks, the role players get shuffled. if the team wins, the role players get shuffled. players come and go from teams. star players have been making the decision on where they want to play for years.

it would be a strange decision indeed for phantom GM Lebron to say "well, that season sucked. we should run it back with the exact roster, coach and hope it gets better."

people would call him, or any GM, a clown for doing that.

and if he's not happy in LA because the roster sucks, the team has no picks and he can opt out and play in..... New York.. why would he stay in LA?? because fans might get mad if he left?

until i just read it, i forgot that the Cavs have playoff specialist Rajon Rondo on the squad. wouldnt it be a joy if the best jackhole PG since Iverson sold out to shut down the worst jackhole PG since Iverson? be still my heart...
I'm conflicted about tonight. On one hand, if we lose then lose again we get our #1 back. But on the other hand, even though we'll lose round 1 because we're just not healthy enough next year's team will benefit from the experience of a playoff series. And on a much bigger hand, winning tonight means that flat earth anti vaxx schmuck is one loss away from his super team not even making the playoffs. And while I appreciate what he did to bring a ship here...well, as I say every Sunday at mass - lord help me I'm just not a forgiving person, give me the strength to stop holding grudges...and I'm not there yet.

So - bite me, Kyrie.

LeBron the player is not held accountable for the poor decisions GM LeBron makes and despite the latter consistently making misguided short sighted decisions he keeps finding work, so it would be silly of either person to act any differently than they have.

Bobby Portis is just one of those guys you hate on another team, but love on your team. (Marcus Smart, Patrick Beverley types)
Maybe I’m wearing Bucks-colored glasses, but I don’t think he’s ANYTHING like those dirty MFers.

Beverley isn't dirty. Maybe in the past  you could argue it, but weirdly starting this year he's just a real hard worker and a tough SOB whose motor won't quit.

I’m guessing without even looking that it’s Giannis pushing Dunleavy into the stands. Such a beautiful moment that it brings a tear to my eye…
Also, Dunleavy should be glad that it was 2015 Giannis that pushed him and not 2022 Giannis.  Present-day Giannis would push his scrawny ### about 10 rows deep.

He's not dirty per se, but he's just probably annoying to all other teams fans.....constantly ish talking, crazy facial and eyes, always trying to pump up the crowd in some way.    Home team loves the energy.  Non-fans just think he's annoying.

In Ed Malloy reffed games the Clippers rank 3rd in free throws attempted per game, Wolves rank 27th.

In Scott Foster reffed games the Clippers rank 2nd in free throws attempted, Wolves rank 29th.

Guess who is reffing tonight?  NBA gotta get an LA team in the playoffs.

Yeah, I mean, at $1/month it's a no-brainer.

This is the article that I was talking about earlier.  Literally one of the best and coolest pieces that I've ever read.

What you said earlier about the Bucks is spot-on.  Not only is Giannis one of the best basketball players that I've ever seen, but he's also one of the best humans.  You already mentioned Jrue, and Khris is another down-to-earth, family-oriented, homebody type.  Check out this interview with Jrue and Khris.  Then you have Brook, the big, Disney-loving goofball, and Bobby P., the self-proclaimed "underdog" and "people's champ."  With the possible exception of the aforementioned Dookie, there's legit not a bad apple in this bunch.
Good article.

And for those who don't want to spend the $1, you can read any article on the internet behind a paywall (for free) by typing in:  archive.md   into your browser, and pasting the link into the box.

The Celtics have a good team but they’re about to be in trouble.
We'll see how it plays out. Tatum and Brown can match KD and Kyrie in scoring. In the past calendar year, Tatum has had games of 54, 50, and 40 against the Nets. I'll take the Boston defense over Brooklyn's any day of the week. The Nets would clearly have an advantage in close games down the stretch . . . the question is can BOS continue to have games effectively won at halftime.

wOw - Cavs have no scheme at all. i never get to see em. that's just sad, even if they are young...

JB's gotta break precedent and shadow Irving w Rondo just to keep the young'uns from being spooked by him

I mean they certainly still have a fighters chance with both J's out there, but Big Rob out looms large here. We were one of the worst teams on the glass over the past handful of years, and it all turned around with him emerging. Hard to think we're not just gonna get bullied on the boards all series, especially with Drummond roaming around, and the Nets are a team you really need to limit second chance opportunities.

They look like an AAU team out there.  This game should be under 10 pts even with Irving's ridiculous shooting.  Love and Rondo need to play the rest of the game.

The Celtics should still be the favorites.  Outside of Kyrie and Durant, the Nets are not good.

Bringing up multiple other years has no bearing on the current team. Time Lord is their 4th most important piece and (knock on wood) everyone else is healthy. Over the past 30 games, Boston's net rating has been more than 10 points higher than any other team in the Eastern Conference. BOS was 5th in rebounds this year. BRK was 13th. Sure, not having Williams is not ideal, but the way they have been playing, they should be able to handle the Nets without him. IMO, they have a way better chance than you give them credit for. IMO, the Nets are the ones with the puncher's chance.

Cavs cut it to 6, but a Durant 3 takes it back to 9.

Either way, Boston is better than both of these teams, even without TimeLord.

I kinda feel bad for the Wolves fans. You're all going to sit through this game knowing they're going to lose. Clippers by double digits easy.

The Wolves definitely weren't ready for playoff basketball there and to be honest as a Wovles fan neither was I. It's been so long I forgot how intense it is. Hopefully they can figure this out, especially Karl.

I'm rooting them on as well.  KAT seems like a really likable guy off the court.  After all his losses during Covid, would like to see them make a run.  I give them a better chance v. Memphis than I do the Suns.

Opening Series Odds:

Brooklyn Nets -145
Boston Celtics +115
And its already being adjusted.  Draftkings now has Brooklyn -120 and Boston -110.  Boston looks to be a 3 pt favorite in game 1 as well.

Boston will play better defense than Cleveland did and will have the advantage of wearing down Irving and Durant over a 7 game series with home court advantage.

Ya, was just responding to you saying Boston should be favoured.  I doubt they will be anywhere.

That said, as hard as it will be to do, I'm cheering hard for the Celtics.
