I seriously doubt it. Reports are he wanted $40M guaranteed over 3 years. Either his agent trying to drive up the price, or the Bills trying to cause the Jets to panic and give Revis the moon.

Depending on the contract, signing Clay might be the best move they've made so far. Not only is he a very good receiver, but he's a very good run blocker as well. His knee is a concern, so I wouldn't want a huge chunk guaranteed.

You didn't know who Clay was? We go up against him twice a year.

That's what I mean. I watch at least two Miami games a year and still didn't know that he was on their roster.

Granted, I haven't played fantasy football in years so my knowledge of offensive skill position players around the league isn't what it was.

Loved Clay since he was at Tulsa. Great athlete, but offer sheet is going to be pretty steep to get the Dolphins to not match. Browns interested too I guess.

Fins fan, and Clay dynasty owner. Very good player. Very versatile, deceptively quick. Can line up as a fullback and carry the ball on occasion too. Came out as an H-Back type but used much more as a traditional TE. As both a Fins fan and a dynasty owner, I hope Buffalo's offer is not too steep that the Fins cant match it. Tanny isnt Montana, but I'd rather have him as the trigger man than Matt Cassel anyday.

He is coming off an injury plagued season, so I thought we'd get him back on the cheap. Does not appear to be the case. I thought $7M was steep, but it looks like he may get in excess of $8M. A lot for him, but he is a very good player, and all of the free agents are getting crazy contracts right now. I dont think the Bills fans will be disappointed with him. Fun player to watch.

2) This isn't true- a couple of starting QBs were just traded, and there are tons of good QBs who are due to be FA's next offseason. Most of them won't be, but one might.

They are spending the money in the wrong places. There is a reason why pretty much everyone else isn't committing a lot of money to a RB, and giving up what they did for Cassel is dumb. I want them to spend money, but not waste it. Put it where it counts- if they can't get a good QB, then O-line, defense, etc.

Also, I never said the Bills needed an elite QB. A good QB is sufficient (Foles and Bradford could fit that description). The only team to win a SB without a "good" QB in the last 25 years was the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. So, ya, it's possible to do it with poor QB play, but you'll need a historically dominant defense to do so. Historically, those aren't good odds to rely upon.

Actually, Miami structured Suh's deal to try to keep Clay. Suh gets his $25M signing bonus this year plus the vet minimum this year. So his cap hit is only like $5.5M this year. Which means they still have about $7M in cap space.

Of course, the Dolphins are totally screwed next year. Suh's salary for next year is $23M guaranteed. Add in his prorated signing bonus and his cap hit next year is a whopping $28M!!!

The Dolphins already have $125M committed to next year's cap and that doesn't include any of these guys:

Clay is nice for overall skills but Gresham & Cameron there as backups. At least give Bills downfield TE they haven't had.

Just speculation, but it may have been a "courtesy cut." If they knew they wanted to replace Chandler, the nice thing to do is cut him now and give him a chance to latch on elsewhere. Waiting a week and then cutting him would have put him in a bad spot.

I absolutely think that had something to do with it. They know they're going to replace him somehow and didn't want to screw him over. Fasano is going to replace Lee Smith as their #2 TE primarily used for blocking. We'll see if they land Clay but from everything I've heard they're really gunning for him. I expect an offer sheet today that Miami will have a very tough time matching. Of course there's always Cleveland, and they could very well sneak in and snag him.
