2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

This is the most happy takeaway I have from the A&M story: if schools can use the NIL to recruit and tie the money to the school (honestly, just get it close to a contract anyway and we can have the semi-pro structure that's always made sense) over multiple years, maybe it'll counteract the annoying transfer thing.

Which I said before the Williamses entered. The portal is just annoying.

The amount of money piling up at these schools is crazy.  It is going to promote more disparity from top to bottom.  Think about a school like Miami, it's more a community college than a university, lbh.  Don't think they will really be able to put up even 1/10th as much as any other Florida school.  What's going on is far more than what I thought was even the biggest case.

My neighbor, an SMU grad, is HYPED. There are plans in the works to get competitive fairly quickly.

I don't think it will increase disparity so much as change it. SMU, TCU, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Duke, UNC...obviously not an exhaustive list at all, but there are plenty of schools with the alumni who have money to compete but not the history per se that now could be serious players.

I'm hearing TCU doesn't have the horses and are a zero behind what SMU has thrown together.  It's an arms race.

Offering that star RB a car or no-show job looks like pittance now.

Tech alums should be pretty flush right now, no? They’ve gotta have a T Boone

"University....Lesbian BrotherHood?"  Like, Cal Berkeley?  I don't think Oregon is quite on that level.  Yet.

The university of Miami? What? It’s a top-50 school in the country

Assumed the reincarnation of the USFL was a joke. See now that it's not. Just when I thought the world couldn't get any worse.

QB Casey Thompson transfers from Texas to Nebraska.   Possible former 5* WR Trey Palmer transferring from LSU to Nebraska.

The North Dakota State Bison defeat the Montana State Bobcats 38-10 to claim their 9th FCS title.  Move the Bison up a division.

Kind of a bummer the Montana State QB got injured early.

"We're getting the band back together"

@BruceFeldmanCFB: SOURCE: Former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik has accepted an offer to become the new defensive coordinator at North Carolina. As a Co-DC at Texas under Mack Brown, he helped the Longhorns win the 2005 national title. @zach_barnett first reported the move.

The amount of hype for this game must be at an all time low.  At least it would seem Covid isn't impacting this game much if at all.

No matter how many i get a chance to experience, I'll always be nervous and appreciative...and unable to focus on work!

Should be a great game, but I think if Bama plays well they win.  UGA is built like Bama circa '12...to control the clock on O, and stop the run on D.  Do they blitz more to keep Young from picking them apart again?  Seems so, but that will put their secondary at risk.  They need Young to have an off night if so, without his security blanket in Metchie.

On offense, Cook and Bowers will have to have big games.  Strangely it seems the Bama D performance is underrated this year, especially over the last few weeks.

Good write up.

Even though I will be rooting for UGA, if I was betting I would take Bama on the moneyline (+125 or so). Saban as a dog in big games is hard to bet against.

While I'm rooting for Georgia, I won't be upset if Alabama wins.  Normally, I hate dynasties, but for whatever reason Alabama's run doesn't bother me at all.

ouch

@kaytow12: I was afraid my outfit might make me look like a Georgia fan, but then I remembered I’m wearing my SEC championship ring so I’m good

A buddy of mine growing up bought a Hershel Walker jersey that was 2 sizes too small and wore it all the time..... It was hilarious
