2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (3 Viewers)

Report on XM was that Corral should be ok and his draft status unaffected.  Good news but not a big surprise...it happens but the chances are slim on late season/bowl injuries affected drafts i think...Tua is a good example.
Was Tue going to be drafted higher? I kind of doubt it.

Agree, that's what i mean...one of the worst injuries possible and still went 5th.  Of course, it's different by position.

This transfer portal thing has to be pulled back in.  Need to lose a year of eligibility, and some level of NIL cap.  It's going to get real silly real soon.

There are reports now that the TAMU NIL pool is working multi-year deals with players.  Player gets $X per year if they stay with TAMU.  But I didn't think that was possible as part of the NIL deals.

Caleb Williams gone. Ouch.
Maybe?   Entered portal.  I say deuces if he doesn't want to be at OU. OU has bent over backwards already for this guy and his family.  They all want Caleb to be recruited again.  "What can OU offer?  NIL deals?  Development for the NFL?     If Caleb transfers for $$$/NIL deals it will be open season for to athletes in Norman.  No way OU administration and donors are going to be left out.     "You had a great year at XYZ University... come to OU and we will pay you $$$ much more.     Sad days ahead for smaller schools.  But,  I am excited for the BV era to start.

Reddit seems to think he's got some NIL deal at Auburn locked up.

if i was gm i would only pick guys that were proven brohans like if you see a qb driving around in a 75 dodge with brandy playing you know damn well that 1 he is a brohan and 2 he is going in the first round to the swcs take that to the bank brohans

Like this bromigo?

I love how you can play football and can just get in anywhere, and here Lori Laughlin went to jail to get her kid into USC to not play tennis.

AND...Dillon Gabriel just transferred to Oklahoma. Wtf is going on.  ?

Just hours after Caleb Williams announced he was entering the NCAA transfer portal, former UCF QB Dillon Gabriel announced his commitment to the #Sooners. Gabriel will re-unite with OC Jeff Lebby in Norman.

"College football will be so much better when the kids can just go wherever they want, like the coaches."

I would guess the offer that Caleb turned down was better than the offer that Gabriel got from UCLA.

Can someone chime in on the Kansas State / LSU game tonight?  I know about some of the injuries and opt-touts but not much else.  The line has ballooned to 7 but LSU is one of the few teams that can plug in decent talent regardless.

That said, I could not find much of anything about who might throw the football for LSU.

@shreveporttimes: LSU senior wide receiver Jontre Kirklin will play at quarterback for LSU as freshman Garrett Nussmeier sits out the game to maintain redshirt eligibility.

"Backing Kirklin up is freshman walk-on Tavion Faulk. Faulk is the nephew of former LSU running backs coach Kevin Faulk and won a state championship his senior year at Carencro High."

Oklahoma WR Mario Williama to the portal.  What is going on in Norman?  NIL to highest bidder?  Crazy
He’s really close with Williams, people think they'll end up at the same place.

I know it's a little late, but this game is a mess.  Last I heard, LSU only has 39 players that were on scholarship when the season started.  The secondary is massively depleted and they have a WR playing QB.  O line coach is the interim and the staff is mostly gone.

Should be fun.

@EWF423: Brian Kelly addressing the accent while LSU throws a pick, having not gained a single yard in 20 minutes of game

Is a NIL arms race going to take the place of the facilities arms race that has been going on for a while? Facilities are great, but that's not putting money directly in recruit's pockets.

And of course Nebraska just raised $165 million in private donations for  facilities upgrades.  :lmao:   No way do we have the deep pockets like some others to go back to that well for NIL also for an extended period of time.

And I understand players have been getting paid for a long time.  These numbers just seem higher.  Maybe I'm wrong about that.

Current landscape of college football is dizzying and impossible to follow.  A sport I loved above all else is becoming far too tedious and I fear the product will greatly suffer.

It seems to have certainly perched itself on a slippery slope.  I'm afraid in 5 years it won't look much like it does currently.

Oh my interest has waned dramatically since the playoff was born, for a number of reasons. It’s just not that great anymore. I do wonder if in 20 years it’ll be like how baseball or boxing fell off but I doubt it gets that bad. Bowl ratings were way down this year but still really good.

the sport has always been regionalized but it’s pretty much only Deep South now and uhhhh…people from the east coast and out west don’t really have an interest in that.

I think we'll see some adjustment back toward the middle with NIL.  They're blatantly breaking the rules outlines.  Question is who leads (new Commish, conferences) and when.

I think the NIL (and Saban retiring) could bring a lot of parity back to college football too. I mean - you can see its this year with A&M. As soon as the other schools figure out how to do what they are doing, you likely won't have all of the 5* going to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State. Can spread that money around.

Also - I know this has been discussed already - but I'm curious if Lincoln Riley brings the Pac 12 back. Add a great USC program to Oregon, and you have something in the Pac 12.

ETA: I forgot to add playoff expansion. So 12 teams in the playoffs and NIL should (I hope) lead to a more competitive landscape. Oh - and Saban retiring.

I used to love college basketball in the 80s and 90s but once players started playing 1 or 2 years tops, it was no longer enjoyable to follow save for March Madness, which is only compelling because of brackets and gambling.  I couldn't name one college basketball player right now.  I know there's a kid from Gonzaga who is supposed to be the next Wilt Chamberlain.  I don't know his name.

My fear is NCAA football is trending this direction.  How can I root for a team that won't look anything like it did the year prior?  I just can't keep pace and the older I get, the less my brain can process 40 new names on Oregon's roster.  And that's just keeping up with the team I root for.  Gambling on this sport is for maniacs or Rain Man - there is no way a normal human can process all the data from the churn of names, coaches, etc.

This is the most happy takeaway I have from the A&M story: if schools can use the NIL to recruit and tie the money to the school (honestly, just get it close to a contract anyway and we can have the semi-pro structure that's always made sense) over multiple years, maybe it'll counteract the annoying transfer thing.

Which I said before the Williamses entered. The portal is just annoying.

You root for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.
