2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

It's so stupid that they call they crown a 2022 champion at the end of the 2021 season.

They just showed Georgia winning the 1980 National Championship in the 1981 Sugar Bowl.  So my question is, which year did they skip?

Huh? It's been like that forever

In 1939 - Texas A&M won their bowl game on Jan 1 1940 this kept them in the top spot ...

Or do you mean when playoffs started

big possession for UGA defense. They went 3 n out last time but if Bama gets a score here, it could be uh oh time with how the offense has looked.

I mean they call the winner of this game the 2022 champions, right?  Or are they the champs of 2021?

Then why is it the 2022 Championship Game?

Sorry, these the the things that keep me up at night.
Yeah, that name is confusing but whoever wins will be the 2021 champs.  Just like it's been as long as I can remember.  And I'm old.  ;)

ETA:  There was a time when some polls crowned their champ after the regular season and before the bowls were played.

The issue is college football tradition of New years day bowls started this mess. All other sports are either in the same year or crossover during the regular season. College football has always had the weird. Regular season ends in November. Bowl games are next year

It was less confusing when Jan 1 was the end of it
