2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (3 Viewers)

I see Kevin Austin brought his dropsies to the game tonight. Glad Mayer is back but cannot come up with goose eggs in rivalry games.

Oh man. Kyle Hamilton down and that didn’t look good. Putting no weight on his leg after falling awkwardly and immediately grabbing his knee.

What’s absolutely maddening is when ND defense lines up in a 4-3 all year they’ve been successful and rush the passer really well. When they switch to a 3-4 teams go down the field all day.

ND’s start and interception were 4-3 sets. Most of the rest of the drive he’s called 3-4. Come on Freeman it’s like you’re the only guy not seeing this.

PAC-12 refs have been brutal again in this game…again. Not surprising since it’s SC, but come on you schmucks.

Conference refs is still a reaaaaaaallllly bad idea they need to fix ASAP in college football. It’s ridiculous that interconference games could be settled by partisan reffing.

I think USC should totally hire their interim coach. Very much in favor of his continued involvement in the rivalry.

Fixing the game and not even trying to hide it. That whole officiating crew should be fired today

WHOA!  That is unreal.  God I can't stand officials like that.  There should be way more accountability in officiating, imo.  Nothing ever comes from it.  They get to be anonymous, yet with so much power in their pocket.

And you can't tell me they don't line those pockets.  ####ers.

More or less last week in a nutshell

#2 Cincinnati won by a TD as a 29 point favorite.

#3 Oklahoma was trailing in the 4th quarter as a 38 point favorite.

#7 Penn State lost in 9OT as a 25 point favorite.

Army/Wake Forest combine for 126 points

#25 Purdue loses by 17 after knocking off Iowa

#8 Oklahoma State loses on the road

This feels a lot like last year in college basketball where the BIG 10 is way over rated.  Decent chance they get left out of the playoff this year.

Clemson lost its 3rd game before Nov for the first time in 11 years.

@mzenitz: There are only two Power Five teams yet to score 20 points in regulation against an FBS opponent.

0-7 Arizona is one. The other? Clemson.

Both have played in six games against FBS opponents.

Just got back from the Penn State game. It was a fun atmosphere. Too bad the game ruined it. The refs were absolutely atrocious. All the calls against PSU in the 1st-3rd quarters and then the bizarre make up calls negating 2 TDs for Illinois in the 4th just took any interest I had in the game.

The new OT rules are a joke. They do however show off how bad an OC is at play calling. Take Illinois for example. They ran 67 times for 357 yards and then in 7 of the 2 pt OTs decided now was the time to pass the ball. Until they finally remembered, oh yea we ran all over these guys all day and ran it. Similarly, PSUs OC displayed how much of an idiot he is trying to have Clifford (who's clearly hurt but obviously a thousand times better than their backup even when hurt) jam the ball in to tight spaces with pinpoint accuracy down at the goaline.

What a miserable game.
I was coming back from Columbus and this game frustrated me to no end. I’m surprised my steering wheel wasn’t squeezed down to nothing.

If the following below plays out, who are your top 4 playoff teams?

Georgia 12-1 losing to Alabama

Oklahoma 13-0

Cincy 13-0

Ohio State 12-1

Alabama 12-1

Oregon 12-1

it would be Bama, OU, Georgia, and then barely Oregon in that order. Ohio would have a shot at jumping OU if Michigan, MSU and Iowa hold their rankings till the end. Oregon may need somebody from the Pac to step up, it may be too late for that.

The committee would jump Bama over OU to avoid the SECCG rematch.

In that scenario Cincy has zero chance.

Agreed.  Although I would replace Georgia with Ohio State.  Georgia's best win would be 20 something ranked Kentucky and would not even win their conference.

I would like to issue a watch for SMU running the table.

I BELIEVE

Got a 3?4? Time transfer portal QB that is legit and has a super villain name.

Cincy 12-1 losing to now undefeated SMU

Alabama 12-1

Oregon 12-1
Now what happens.

Georgia

Alabama

Ohio State

Oregon

I think Oklahoma gets in over Oregon in this situation.  And I mean I gotta ask an undefeated SMU is not getting subbed in for an undefeated Cincy because why again?  They would have a win over a top 5 opponent.  Only Alabama would have that, and would come in from a 1 loss state.

Is Ohio State not a top 5 opponent?  Oregon has the best win so far this year so they are in for sure in this scenario.  The loss at Stanford was bad but it was overtime and the refs basically gave the game to Stanford.

I suppose OSU has a tremendously back loaded schedule that would push them in the top 4 winning out.

Wake Forest is the only Power 5 team to never be ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll.  They have a realistic shot to get there this year.

He (Tanner Mordecai) transferred once. He was a top ten-ish QB in the 2018 class, so not a shock he’s putting up numbers. He’s really good.

Parity is crazy this year and will probably be the norm going forward. Anyone who thinks the G5 (or whatever) schools don’t deserve a chance to play in the playoff is officially insane. This is going to be amazing when we get to 16, hopefully they just go straight there. The 1 and 2 seeds will roll most years but it’s still worth it.

They don't, they shouldn't, I'm not insane.  There are very rarely more than 2 good teams and nearly never are there more than 4.

The fallacy here is that when there are fewer great teams that more are good, that's simply not the case. There's probably some fancy name for this but I'm not that smart.

Yeah, I see that now.  I thought he did some sort of Covid move to go OU->Florida?->SMU but got him mixed up

Then you don’t get to ask why SMU doesn’t make it.

Only sport in the world where people don’t want it decided on the field. The point of sports is to play games and win, not pass the eye test and be the “best” team. We still using the excuse that they need time to study for finals?

Can I use the excuse I would rather be able to draft a dynasty rb and have him play maybe 4 seasons?
