2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (3 Viewers)

IMO just isn’t a deserving 4th team.  Executive committee should just award Bama a bye

1. Bama

2. Michigan

3. Cincinnati

if we must add a 4th

4a. 1 loss SEC team but showed their ###, have no place among the elite and undefeated.  Not a true threat it most “deserving”

4b. tOSU - 2nd best team in the 2nd best conference.   Unlike Georgia might actually be good and have a shot at beating BAMA

4c. MUS - Gritty

4d.. Baylor - won the 3rd best conference this year

4e.. Utah - soft pac 10 gritty
UGA did not have a good night and I hate them but come on - why does everyone forget UM’s loss to Michigan St.?  In the bad loss contest it goes UM, Bama, UGA.  And thumping Iowa doesn’t make up for it.  There’s a reason UGA is already a big favorite in that game.

Happy for my Michigan side of the family. My wife’s grandfather (a freaking prince of a man) used to work the sidelines at Ann Arbor as he was a firefighter there. Was friends with Harbaugh’s dad. Said Jim was a real ##### kid who was disrespectful to everybody but John was a good kid. He always wanted John to be the HC and said Jim couldn’t do it.

Anyways, after every year we’d say well grandpa was right about Jim. Guess not this year. RIP gramps

I take that back - MSU is probably better than TAMU - so Bama, UM, UGA.  Either way, UGA has the best loss of the 3.

Kirby is in a really tough spot - he has to get Daniels ready to come in in case Bennett has another night like last night.  Fan base will go bananas if he allows him to be the reason they don’t win.  They didn’t help him much by not running the ball more.  I thought my FIL was going to have a heart attack over them not running it.

Is JT hurt? There is absolutely no way that guy they started last night with the rich white southern name is better than him.

No one is forgetting the MIch loss.  I do think Bama will get the 1st seed and deservingly so under the rules today.  If the committee says that Mich is 1st because of the Bama injury, thats ok also.  They just need to be above board in whatever criteria used.

Why is that?  Having to play UGA and Bama seems a much harder path than Cincy and UM.
They have to be able to handle the SEC speed. It’s always a concern up north because teams are not built for it.  The championship in a dome could hurt Michigan also in this regard.

Is getting destroyed on a neutral field by a team that looked mediocre all year really a better loss than losing a nail-biter on the road to a top 10 team?

Venables and Lebby, which was by far the most logical thing to do from the beginning, seems to be the word

No, A&M is a worse loss than State. Plus a missed call by the refs had a hand in the loss. If Vegas has the line that high and they do play watch how fast it goes down. Michigan is better than Georgia

Glad the world got to know Bryce Young last night.  He's been a bit slow to make decisions...and has been hampered by bad OL play and Offensive play-calling.  But his brilliance has been obvious since the start...at a rare level with guys like Manziel and Murray.

Kudos to BOB for finally figuring out how to let him loose (with some Saban 'guidance').

OU grad I work with assured me early on that it wouldn’t be Venables since he was run out of town and seemed to still have some residual bad feelings there. Guess that’s changed.

Who are Georgia's best wins against this year? They didn't play a tough schedule. They lost to the one really good team they played. Their defense was great until yesterday but did they play any other good offensive teams? I'm not seeing it.

I also work with some people in Norman…none of them are fans of BV.

I have to say that I am now curious what would have happened had Oklahoma State gotten that final TD knowing what we know now.

I think Georgia might still have gotten in over them. That’s a big reason why you don’t see a bunch of arguing from ND fans and others - not enough dominoes fell for any of the fringe consideration teams.

But once again we have maybe 3 teams with a legitimate argument at a title shot for the second year in a row. I’m glad ND got a shot last year, but after the ACCCG the Bama beat down was assured. Curious how this’ll continue to play into playoff expansion thoughts.

Google Mellissa Hutchinson.  Aidens mom.   Not bad at all.

I am still in Indy. Went to game last night. What a night it was so much fun. Biggest crowd ever at a BIG title game.  Michigan travels as good as good or better than any school.   To be honest I have never been a big fan of Harbaugh as the HC but after hearing him talk last few game I am on board.  Whenever asked it is all about the players.  Hutch, Haskins, Cade..whoever.  Then he gave great kudos to his staff..never talks about himself. Now donating at least 1.5 million to staff that were layed off and took pay cuts last year.

Great season for Big Blue.  That being said I don`t think Michigan can beat Bama.  Don`t think anyone can.

He was earlier and now I think he’s fine, they had been cursing and Bennett has played well.  Their D really didn’t show up last night which is the bigger surprise over Bennett’s performance

Yeah, I changed that but a loss to Bama isn’t going to reflect too poorly on anyone.  We can just disagree on who is better, UGA or UM - I think we will definitely see that game.  I hope UM wins by 50 but I think Georgia wins that matchup because of their speed.

Don't go, GM. I'm smiling and not ruefully or meanly. You add way more to this CFB thread than I ever could. I just got a kick out of the "Canadian singer" thing. Cracked me up. Peace, folks.

All good, GB.  But lost in all this is still my question: Why does Drake have a connection to OU?  I am not a huge fan and probably wouldn't recognize any of his songs - my exposure to him came from watching Toronto basketball where he was ubiquitous as a fan.  So I have a confuse.

I'm torn about Georgia. I don't particularly like ND, and I think they should be in. Here's all that matters to me: Look, Georgia just lost to another playoff team. If I'm gonna watch Georgia or Notre Dame just lose to Alabama, I'd rather it be a new team and not the same ####### game I just watched, you know?

This is the primary argument, IMO, for auto-bids. I would WAY rather see a 6-team playoff of the P5 champs and the highest G5 champ with 1/2 getting a bye. Win your own conference. It's a playoff. I want to see the best team from these different styles play each other, not more SEC teams that kind of look and feel the same. That's what feels right. And if we want to make a weird exception for ND, cool, if not, go join the ACC for real and cut out this stupid independent crap.

Not a big ND fan but we already know Georgia can`t beat Bama.  Really nobody can but why watch Bama destroy Georgia again?  Let them beat up different team.

If Bama won on a last second FG it would be different but they totally dismantled Georgia.

Congrats to Cincinnati for finally breaking the barrier. I truly hope they put on a competitive game vs. Alabama. As a college football fan, I'm hoping at least one of the two SEC teams doesn't make the championship so we get a little variety.

The sad part is now with the season complete we don't even have two good conferences, but two good divisions within two conferences. Georgia beat up on a weak SEC East and Iowa showed the Big Ten West as a joke too.

Georgia deserves to be in based on talent and how well they played all year. However, the SEC East might have hidden how good/bad they really were just as if Michigan had faced an undefeated Big Ten West opponent last night.

All morning UGA sucks and hasn't beaten anyone, now they are good?
Who said UGA sucks?  They perhaps listened to the hype and faced a Bama team coming off a bad showing against Auburn and listening all week to how they were going to lose to UGA. Bama had the chip and it looked like UGA wasn't totally focused.

UGA is humbled and they're now the team with something to prove. I expect them to show up and play better. I don't know who wins between them and Mich but I believe UGA will be ready and hungry.

I'd missed this detail from Michigan's win yesterday: Based on the idea of Aiden Hutchinson and the Michigan players, Michigan dedicated their game to Tate Myre, one of the four Oxford shooting victims and a star football player.  This was known, as the players wore patches to honor Tate and the others.  What I didn't pick up - but Harbaugh and others did, late in the game - was that Michigan scored 42 points.  Myre's number was 42.

-14 Bama

   -8 Georgia
Looks like Bama is -13.5 so it's either moved or floating right around there.

Might be a good bet for both the dogs IMO. I think Bama will likely win, but it'll be closer than most think probably and as long as Bama is double digits, I think they take their foot off the gas to await their championship opponent.

Happy for Cincinnati.  They deserve it.  Still shows how hard it is for even an undefeated  G5 team to make it with the current format.  Very rare to have 3 P5 conference champs with 2 or more loses.  I would have put them in over a 1 loss Okie State, but not sure the committee would agree.
