2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (3 Viewers)

This is an amazing set of stats and research from a fellow ND fan on just how historically amazing Saban has been beyond just what you hear from the talking heads already:

Bryant’s Alabama teams spent 30 weeks in 25 seasons at No. 1—surprisingly only 4th for that period, behind Ohio State (53 weeks), Southern Cal (47), and Texas (36), and ahead of Oklahoma (25) and ND (23).

Saban’s Alabama teams have spent a staggering 105 weeks in just 15 seasons at No. 1, out of only 243 total polls—more than Nos. 2-7 combined (LSU 24, Clemson 23, Ohio State 17, Florida 17, Florida State 15, Southern Cal 10).

Alabama had spent exactly one week at No. 1 under someone other than Bryant or Saban—the final poll of 1992, under Gene Stallings. Before Saban, ND and Oklahoma were tied for most No. 1 appearances at 95. Alabama was 10th at 31, behind even Michigan (9th, 34). The current top 5:

1. Alabama—136
2. Ohio State—105
3. Oklahoma—101
4. ND—98
5. Southern Cal—91

Craziest stat there is to see, basically, that Bama has only ever been number one under Bear and Saban. That's pretty mind blowing considering the history there.

Who said UGA sucks?  They perhaps listened to the hype and faced a Bama team coming off a bad showing against Auburn and listening all week to how they were going to lose to UGA. Bama had the chip and it looked like UGA wasn't totally focused.

UGA is humbled and they're now the team with something to prove. I expect them to show up and play better. I don't know who wins between them and Mich but I believe UGA will be ready and hungry.
Yeah. I get why people don't like to see these type of rematches, but UGA is very capable of beating Bama. They looked outcoached rather than outclassed in terms of talent.

Panthers part ways with Joe Brady. Already on the phone with LSU?  Imagine he won't be available for long.

more on Joe Brady

@DNewtonespn: Matt Rhule wanted the Panthers to rush 30-33 times a game. They had only 16 rushes in their last game before the bye. Now former OC Joe Brady just never found the right balance.

Happy for Cincinnati.  They deserve it.  Still shows how hard it is for even an undefeated  G5 team to make it with the current format.  Very rare to have 3 P5 conference champs with 2 or more loses.  I would have put them in over a 1 loss Okie State, but not sure the committee would agree.

Very unfortunate didn't get the chaos of leaving Cincinnati out.  Now bama gets a bye so it's win win all around

So Michigan and Georgia going to beat each other up while Alabama gets a rehearsal against Cincinnati?  I'm glad Cincinnati got in, but I'm just being realistic.

Let’s not throw dirt of them just yet. This Cincy team gave UGA all it wanted last year, losing close.
Even if they get run off the field, it’s at least someone new to watch.

Cincy is good. They have nfl players on both sides. They aren’t likely to beat Bama but save me the crying. ####ing Georgia just got run off the field by them, I don’t want to hear it.
I think Cincinnati’s first 22 will be ok - still inferior to Bama.  The problem for them is Bamas backups are as good as the Bearcats starters.  They may keep it close for a while but Bama’s depth should be more than enough for them to advance comfortably.

Not sure if directed at me.  I'm tired of it always being Alabama.  NCAAF needs some parity...lol.

Not directed at anybody. I just know how it’s going to go in here if Cincy gets pummeled.
Just see how folks are responding to UGA getting beat handily.  And last week folks were preemptively complaining about Bama getting in with 2 losses - now, nobody is beating Bama.

These are some good games:

Brett McMurphy @Brett_McMurphy

Ohio State vs. Utah in Rose

Ole Miss vs. Baylor in Sugar

Oklahoma State vs. Notre Dame in Fiesta

Pitt vs. Michigan State in Peach

So Rhule turns to his buddy Jeff Nixon. Jeff Nixon was co offensive coordinator at Baylor. Baylor fans were sad to see Rhule go but not so much Nixon and Glenn Thomas.

@RossDellenger: Mario Cristobal has a deadline of midday Monday to accept the UM job, sources tell @SInow. If he declines, Manny Diaz will be retained, as @flasportsbuzz reported.

Final decision on AD - where Dan Radakovich is top candidate - will be made after the coach situation is resolved.

I think Utah spanks Ohio St, especially if some Buckeyes sit this out for the draft.  These bowls are all about motivation.

Glad the world got to know Bryce Young last night.  He's been a bit slow to make decisions...and has been hampered by bad OL play and Offensive play-calling.  But his brilliance has been obvious since the start...at a rare level with guys like Manziel and Murray.

Kudos to BOB for finally figuring out how to let him loose (with some Saban 'guidance').
I liked this post because I agree with it,  but I definitively don't actually like it.

Saban wants a 16-teamer (or contraction), only a matter of time now

Nick Saban: "I absolutely think that everyone who participates in college football at the Division I level should feel like they have an opportunity to get in the playoff."

Ha may have to run that past Dabo Sweeney.

Saban has lost to his assistant once.

I imagine Dabo may soon be happy to have expansion to 16 (or 30) teams. He will have a tall task replacing Venables. One that he needs to get right if they want to continue to attract top recruits. He may lose the AD and both coordinators. Important stretch here for Clemson, imo.

Finally the "God Father" speaks.  So shall it be done.  Seriously!

Kinda wanted to pat myself on the back for calling the Bama win/2 SEC teams in the Playoffs last week and calling the order of the 4 teams correctly yesterday.  Now all I can think about (outside of NFL gambling) are Mario leaving Oregon, who's coaching Oregon next, and gambling on the bowls.

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I've always wondered what would finally entice Venables to leave his cushy spot, and the Oklahoma job certainly fits the bill.

Maybe ask Joe Brady to come with him to continue the offensive genius and entice Caleb W to stay?

Michigan could easily be undefeated and playing Cincinnati but for one bad quarter in a game they otherwise dominated a couple weeks ago. Then everyone would be squawking about Alabama playing Georgia again.

I'm obviously biased, but G5 should have at least 1 guaranteed spot at the playoff table.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. I have a feeling our young defense is going to be gashed like Michigan did.
I'm going to try as hard as I can to come into this game with zero expectations.  Without knowing who will sit the game out, knowing our defense is weaker than wet Charmin.....I'm just not confident.

Then Cinci would be #3 and Georgia would be #4 and the matchups would be the same. The chair is full of crap when he says they never considered matchups.

@MBakerTBTimes: I am not aware of anything official, but I’d be surprised if Louisville AD Vince Tyra isn’t the next #FSU AD, based on what I’m hearing.
