2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

:blowsout:

That was hard to watch.  Like men against boys.  Was always concerned about the run D but didn’t anticipate Ridder having a complete meltdown.

Oh well.  Has still been a hell of a run.  Two straight undefeated regular seasons and an ###-whipping of ND on the road.  I’ll take it.

Every other Cincy fan I saw last night was wearing a scarf. It was 70 degree in Dallas yesterday. What's up with that?

If Georgia can't win against this Bama team in a revenge game, they should give up football and devote all of their athletic budget to spike ball championships going forward. Metchie out, secondary a mess, and 1, maybe 2 good players on the OL. Probably the worst Saban team since '07.

It was a joke, bro. I don't actually take into consideration which state I'm in before pumping. But if anyone does, here you go.

@Capella's cousin reminded me of Woody Hayes telling a story about how he was on fumes when he his pickup coasted into Toledo. He was coming back from a recruiting trip and it was below E, the assistant riding with him was pleading he stop, but he said there's no way he is going to support Michigan's budget. When they repeated that story to Bo Schembechler he deadpanned "Well of course, makes sense - you'll never catch me filling up in Ohio."

I named my oldest after the Michigan HC, but that doesn't mean I'm completely insane.
Sorry; my humor detector must've glitched.

NARRATOR: Michigan, in fact, did not give Kirby a game.

When teams have a month to prepare talent usually prevails.

Georgia has superior talent. The have had top recruiting classes for years and it showed across the board last night.

Naw, sarcasm doesn't translate well in email, posts, or texts, right?

I grew up with parents who had nary a college credit but worshiped the U of M program. Used to have annual viewing parties for the entirety of the Civil War era (1969-78), and my mom's best friend was a businesswoman from Columbus. Every year that lady would get a little tipsy and start singing obnoxious fight songs ("we don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan, the whole state of Michigan...")

Even being a Wolverine since birth, I can see how ludicrous fanatics of many college teams can sometimes be. I also lived in SEC country for 6 years. IME in the mid-Atlantic, Northeast and West Coast do not really understand football as religion. For Midwesterners and the Southron, it's simply established fact: God, family and football, though not necessarily in that order.

I live in PA so I definitely understand the importance of football.

I was just in my car for a long drive and heard Mel Kiper on espn radio saying both games yesterday were won by superior coaching. He said the two losing teams weren’t prepared. I think these guys hate to admit there is no equity in college football and the biggest games are often over before they start.

Cincy never had a chance. Michigan probably didn’t either but their game should have at least been competitive going into the third quarter. That was a disaster.

And I have to question Harbaugh play calling and game plan. Too many slow developing plays against a quicker defense. Also tried attacking UGA strength of DLine.

And the defense looked confused in addition to being overmatched

Excited to see the start of the Freeman era here shortly. I think the biggest hit is losing our OT. Our starter returns there, but he was hurt in the first game of the season.

If one RB shows today, I have a feeling it’ll be the freshman, Logan Diggs. Kyren not being there hurts, but Diggs has shown a lot in a short time and he can make fans miss Kyren just a little bit less.

Also interested to see if Rees being unshackled from Kelly has many differences. I doubt he’d change colors just over bowl practices, but he’ll need to. Kelly’s offense is awful, but it’s mostly what Rees knows. He’ll have to overcome that or it’ll be a long day.

Kiper being wrong is nothing new. Short turnaround games would be the ones where coaching and prep might be more important.

I’m still riding high into the new year after that Purdue win. Broc Thompson was the game’s MVP. He’s a local kid, I’ve known him and his family since he was a little kid. He went to the same high school as my daughter - played with Chris Evans currently with the Bengals on a state championship team in 2017. The term “gutsy performance” isn’t high enough praise to describe his play Thursday.

That defense looked gassed in second quarter, especially Hutchinson.

If I can help it, I don't gas up driving in / through Illinois.  The ridiculous tolls, combined with bad highways, is enough.

Rees was very aggressive on the initial drive.  If the Irish oline gives that much time...ND will score a lot of points today.

Josh Gattis calls plays and I agree he did a bad job.  Swing passes to RBs were not going to work against UGs LBs.

In college it is all getting the top players.  Georgie has 20 -5 stars players on their roster and has added 5 more thid recruiting season.  They have just as many or more 2 stars.   Alabama the same or more. Ohio State not far behind.

Teams like Michigan and Michigan State might get 1 or 2  5 stars every other year. Michigan has 2 right now.

College coaches have to have half coach/half salesman. NFL coaches have to be 100% coach and player managers.

That is why guys like Saban, and Meyer who dominate college football fail in the NFL.  Saban and Smart are both good coaches, but many good coaches fail in the wrong situations.

Some pre-season polls had UG #2, Michigan was unranked.  Georgia was picked to win their divison.  Michigan was picked to finish 4th in BIG East.

Georgia is a very great college football team. Michigan is a good college football team.

Irish came out guns blazing. Kelly’s stupid slow developing runs are in the playbook. Set those on fire this off-season.

Defense looked sharp early and forgot to tackle the last series. BD looks good but clearly missing Kyren today.

This team lives and dies with its line play. I was not surprised in the play of the Michigan OL, but was disappointed there was no real plan to counter. I was surprised with the relatively poor play of the Michigan DL, but thought Georgia had a good plan to combat it anyway. Despite that I thought there was still an opportunity to get back in the game, but that 50 yd bomb on 3rd & 3 began the sequence to put the game on ice.

What’s up with all of the scarves in the NY6 bowls? Presuming it’s might be some sponsor/vendor but weird seeing people don them in the desert.

Coan with the inexcusable bad pick throwing into triple coverage. ND defense is gassed. Pretty sure that’s game and what an awful collapse to end on if so.

Iowa punting on a 4th and inches from midfield with 4 minutes left and then immediately giving up the game-winning touchdown was amazing.

Beyond livid. Same old crap we’ve seen for the last 10 years. Unbelievably bad halftime adjustments.

Kelly needs to be exorcised from the program and his offensive playbook needs to be lit on fire and never used ever again.

I guess

If you don’t get it though it’s an automatic 2 score game

I think I’d have punted and took my chances
Objectively it makes sense, but feeling the emotion of the game I would disagree. The defense was gassed by the 3rd quarter, so you have a group long since done you’d be asking to get another turnover.

Defense did their part at the end of the game to generate the turnovers the offense should have needed, but they predictably choked in a big game again.
