2021 New York football Giants (3 Viewers)

It's voluntary he doesn't need an excuse
Daboll:  No virtual work yet, and because he hasn’t shown up to the facility he hasn’t received the playbook yet.

kind of guy the new regime may get rid of.

edit: Our LT has more career touchdowns then this guy.

They should take whatever  they can get for this turd
Doesn't seem like they would get much for him based on reports that I have seen. Per some of the beat writers the best they could get is a 3rd for Toney.

I'd take a 3rd ... remember he was a reach in the 1st. Since then he has been nothing but injuries and headaches

“ he was a reach in the 1st” sounded like some BS revisionist history to me, so I looked at a few mock drafts from 2021. He was a 1st round pick n 4 of the 5 that I saw.

I get being frustrated with him missing games due to injury and Covid but I think it’s too early to take a 3rd round pick plus take the cap hit for the guy after one season.

"Toney isn’t the only Giants receiver on the trading block. The team has also been shopping fourth-year receiver Darius Slayton, according to a source.

In some ways, Slayton is a victim of his production in his first three seasons. As a 2019 fifth-round pick, Slayton received a proven performance escalator that bumped his 2022 salary from $920,000 to $2.5 million because he played over 35 percent of the Giants’ snaps in his first three seasons.

Paying Slayton $2.5 million is a luxury for the cap-strapped Giants. The challenge with a trade is other teams can get their own version of Slayton for much cheaper in the draft. Don’t be surprised if Slayton doesn’t make the final roster if the Giants aren’t able to find a trade partner and their cap situation remains tight.

Ironically, trading Toney would probably make unloading Slayton more likely because they’d lose cap space by dealing Toney. It’s inevitable that the Giants will take a receiver in the draft, possibly earlier than expected, as that position needs an overhaul."

He was a late 1st early 2nd rounder in most mocks  ... Giants reached for him at pick 20

PFF had ranked #39 overall

According to the mock draft database: https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/big-boards/2021/consensus-big-board-2021

Toney’s average mock draft spot was #29

Toney’s average big board spot was #30 overall

Top 32 = 1st round pick

Ok So Daniel Jones at 6 is not reach I guess
That's not really the point, but if they believed in him then it wasn't a reach. He's looking like a bust - but ignoring o-line had a lot to do with that as well. If he built on his first season and became a franchise QB would it be a reach? I get that we get beat over the head with 1,000s of mock drafts so we start to believe that this player should go at pick 20, but if you just look at how these guys just start making changes to their mocks simply because it's two weeks since their last one and they need more clicks, you start to see how silly these mocks are.

I guess I misunderstood your original post. I was under the impression that you thought Toney wasn’t a 1st round talent.

Moving past that, I think it’s foolish to trade the guy because he skips voluntary work outs for a 3rd round pick when

#1 the Giants are currently in trouble with the cap – trading Toney would take on about 5M in dead cap if they move him now

#2 the Giants need WR and he has shown that when healthy he can play

just my opinion but I don't think they trade him either.  they wanted him at camp, he wasn't there.  story gets leaked about looking to trade to get his attention to come to camp.

A 3rd is a lot better than what they got for Baker ... Zebra cant changes its stripes. This guy has had bust written all over him from the moment he was drafted and even before that

2 days a way.   who you guys like?    imo, if neal gets to 5 i take him.   if he doesn't it wouldn't shock me if they go 2 on D with those 5 and 7 picks.   gonna be interesting to see how it plays out.

I’m an NC State alum so I prefer Ekwonu but I won’t be upset if Neal is the OT of choice.

I would love to see a trade down to get a 2023 1st but I understand that it takes two to tango.

It will be interesting to see if they go defense and which end of the defense, pass rush or coverage. Everything I have read about Wink leads me to believe they will go CB if they go defense.

Could they surprise everyone and take a WR early? The kid from Alabama who is coming off the ACL?

I am hoping for Trevon Walker but I see him going as high as #1 after he blew away the combine. Could mean Hutchinson Drops ... But I would love either. I could get by the Kayvon Thibodeaux pile on ... just like last year with Parsons ... But I really would like 1of the 3

Then I would go with one of the Tackles ... I have them in this order Cross, Ekwonu. and Neal but , like the 3 Edges I would love to have either of them

That would give the Giants a Franchise Tackle and Edge for the next 5 years to pair with Thomas (T) and Ojulari (Edge).

I listend to a great pod cast on Big Blue Banter about the importance of Edge Rush over Corner. Forgot who it was but they were talking about how a good Edge could help a Corner more than a corner could help pass rush. Reason being the advantage that WRs have over Corners these days with strict contact penalties

I'm with you on your thoughts about Walker and Hutch, I think they go 1, 2.       Thibodeaux, it sounds like from wha't i've read and heard we've done a lot of work on him.   If he is there and we pass, not sure what to think on that one.   We are so due to get something right at this point.

Here is the article about Wink I was referencing earlier

“It’s one of those things that, if you were asking me, if you’re the owner of a team and I’m your head coach and it comes down to what do you want, I want as many cover corners as you can have,” he said. “Because the game is the passing game now. And I think sacks — we’re talking philosophical now; this is my opinion on it — I think sacks are one of the most superficial rankings there is. Because you look at guys that have a bunch of sacks, OK? There’s a lot of things that go into that.”
“My philosophy is, personally, I’d rather have a corner that can cover than a guy that can rush,” he said, “because I’ll get guys to hit quarterbacks.”

Err... dunno if this was posted but Neal has been red-flagged by a number of teams for "medical issues". Of course, that could be a smokescreen.

@nfldraftscout

People tried doing the same thing with Jedrick Wills pre-draft; “leaking” stories about injuries, bad interviews, even low Wonderlic scores. None of it was real. I’m still not even sure if the info was coming from NFL teams. Similar case here.

#Alabama OT Evan Neal started 40 out of 41 games with the only missed game being due to COVID. The Combine has a “medical recheck” in April for prospects with potential red flags medically. Neal was not told to go. Neal’s camp deny there are any “medical risks” with him.

It was WalterFootball.com where I heard the report... which is very concerning because they've been really good with their draft coverage and staying away from this kind of BS in the past.

Here are the Giants choices in the mocks from the NFL Network guys

Bucky Brooks mock

I like Charles Davis mock best ... Jeremiah’s mock the least

As expected, the @Giants are not picking up QB Daniel Jones' fifth year option, according to a source with knowledge of the team's plans. But if he plays well, obviously, chance to cash in with the franchise tag.

******

The #Giants have exercised the 5th year option on DT Dexter Lawrence, source said.

Giants kicking butt in this draft.

My God. The Giants ended up with the two best players in the draft. It couldn't have gone better for them.
