2021 Philadelphia Eagles - Queued up a playlist of our greatest zits throughout the season for final game (2 Viewers)

The #Chargers are hiring #Rams DC Brandon Staley as their new head coach, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. An impressive young candidate, he gets a prime job in LA.
Dude doesn't even have to move either. What a solid gig to start your HC career in that regard. Others must be jealous

Only two teams in NFL History have hosted three consecutive Conference Championship Games. The 2018-2020 Chiefs and the 2002-2004 Eagles. Both teams coached by the same man: Andy Reid.

Eagles HC search update:

INTERVIEWS: Jan. 13, Joe Brady; Jan. 14, Robert Saleh (Jets), Arthur Miller (Falcons); Jan. 15, Jared Meyo, Duce Staley; Jan. 17, Josh McDaniels.

WANT INTERVIEW: Todd Bowles, Brian Daboll, Eric Bienemy.

WANTED TO INTERVIEW: Brandon Staley (Chargers).

Better be Brady/Daboll/Bienemy

Was reading someone else’s thoughts on Bienemy and their concern and reason for him not getting the shot could got back to his time at Colorado. Apparently he was there during their rape scandal and teams think there could be dirt there on him. Obviously it’s all speculative but wanted to put it out there.

At this stage we just need to see who gets a second interview. I’d be cool with Brady or Daboll. With the Texans looking like they’re in bad shape and Watson maybe wanting out could help us out a lot.

I like this (even tho we wanted to interview him), I still am in on the Bills OC. Get Daboll. It had sounded like he was the guy for LAC - we need to move.  If anyone can fix Wentz, its him, given his work with Allen. Also, they need to tell him that if he can't fix Wentz, its ok to move on.

That's interesting and forgot about that scandal since it wasn't a big one (not saying rape isn't big here) in terms on media attention or program involved.

Get Daboll as the HC and get Dorsey in here as the OC

I really hope Mahomes is healthy and good to go next week.

Only issue with Daboll now could be time, right? You HAVE to think at this stage Howie needs to show flex to save his job right? If they go to the SB that seems like a long wait to fill a staff. Have there been recent cases of teams waiting on a SB coach? I can’t recall

Imagine if he had an interview, then withdrew.   Still think there's a fair chance it ends up being Duce.

49ers didn't hire Shanahan until after SB 51.

ETA: And Lions didn't hire Patricia until after his defense gave up 41 points in SB 52. 😆

I could be wrong, but isn't there a rule that SB-Bound coaches can interview during pro bowl week and often do?  If that's the case, we could have a handshake deal with Daboll in place.

I want to go for a young and fresh offensive guy.  Give me Daboll or Brady please.

Yeah I’m thinking if we wait it’s him and we have a handshake deal in place.

Daboll and Howie have the same agent as well......
Yep and the more I talk myself into it (lol) Howie isn’t in a position to be the same old Howie. Surly he knows his job is on the line. It only behoves him to get the best guy at all costs even if that means giving a little on his end to not appear to be “meddling”.

The McDaniels stuff is getting a lot of talk. I think people are worried but it made sense to talk with him and we appear to be moving forward with other interviews as well

It'll be Josh. Make your peace.
I know many would got crazy but I wouldn’t be mad. This is team rebuilding anyway and if he’s gone in 3 years so be it. Half of the guys hired this cycle will be as well. But if he’s improved than we may be on to something. I’d be curious to see what kind of staff he could put together as well

Multiple reports that Daboll would rather wait until next year for his shot at a HC gig. Could be self-awareness that he needs some more experience, could be he sees the Texans and Eagles as not ideal for starting his HC career.

The only one I saw was from Dianna Russini:

Source close to Brian Daboll “He’ll be the big name for head coach next year”

I sense from talking to agents and other candidates tonight —this was a “surprise pick” by the Chargers

That was reported within minutes of the shocking news that he was passed over for the LA job for Staley.

That report could be as concrete as the ones that all had Daboll to LA in the first place. Who knows really

The NFL has granted clubs permission to conduct virtual interviews this week with head-coaching candidates who are still in the playoffs, provided the employer club consents, per source. Notable for the likes of Eric Bieniemy and Todd Bowles, who interviews with the #Eagles today

I wouldn't be that upset with McDaniels either.  I remember reading that his issues in Denver were mostly personality issues, he thought he could treat people the way Belichik does but he had not earned that.  If he has grown up and communicates with the players better it could work.

Having said that, backing out of the Indy deal bothers me more than his Denver record.

I would guess it’s probably the latter. He’s probably shocked the Rams DC kid got the Chargers gig over him, as he was the heavily rumored favorite there. He was the hottest candidate in this coaching cycle and once the JAX and Chargers jobs filled up he must have  figured it’s probably best for him to wait until next year. Short of an injury next season, the Bills will continue to look great on offense and will probably be even better if they can add some semblance of a run game. The Bills are now the alphas in that division so you can expect another playoff appearance for them next year. It’s a smart move on his part all things considered.

Staley seems pretty intriguing:

- Young (38)
- Former LB and secondary coach
- Known for making it hard for QBs with aggressive pass rush, hybrid personnel, and coverage variations

He beat lymphoma 14 years ago. Hard not to root for him.

Brandon Staley, who has met w/Jets and Chargers (and possibly Lions to come) would bring a very strong staff of rising coaches, I'm told, including Texans DC Anthony Weaver, Colts DB coach Jonathan Gannon (great work with that secondary) and Bears DL coach Jay Rodgers (former QB)

Texans coaching candidate Brandon Staley a master of disguises
do the rams have any up-and-coming offensive coaches that he might bring, like Saleh + Mike LaFleur?

It’s either smart or he’s Eric Bienemy

100% connect-the-dots speculation and 0% journalism.

We don't necessarily need a "players' coach" like Doug was, but to go to the opposite extreme, especially for a guy who has shown shady behavior in the past, could be very destructive. Then again, this is the same FO that appeared not to consider the locker-room impact of taking a QB in the 2nd round after giving their starter a huge contract.

I’m caught in the middle of this one though. We DON’T do extreme things. We have been as leaky as a broken faucet, players going above HC’s to get QB’s benched and an overall bad locker room already. This team literally walked all over Doug. I also have no clue how extreme this guy is outside of a few clips here and here but I’d take that over players walking all over a guy.

Nobody complained about this when Jason Peters went directly to Lurie to tell him that Chip had to go. It was one of the things that spurred Lurie to make that decision. 😆

If they think fixing Carson is the #1 priority (seems like they do), and that the current approach isn't working (obviously its not) - bringing in McDanels seems to be a good bet. Obviously its not a guarantee of success, but he's got the offensive pedigree, a lot of experience, and a new approach. It is VERY hard to get rid of Carson this year (seriously, just let him play out his 5th year!) - so may as well see what we can do with him. If he doesn't improve next year, it'll be easier cap-wise to get rid of him. If McDaniels flames out, so be it, in 3-4 years we'll have plenty of cap space and can start over.

Also the company the agents both work for says they expect McDaniels to be hired here. That may be the most telling thing there.

McDaniels is intriguing because he’s strong minded which is needed to deal with the Wentz reclamation project and the meddling dopes Howie/Lurie

Here's a log of how Josh McDaniels' offenses have ranked in DVOA by season/quarterback

Now, fair play:

Brian Daboll has never had an offense ranked above 20th in DVOA until this season.

Of course, it feels like Daboll's offenses have recently improved, whereas McDaniels'....
I'm all for Daboll, does not appear like he wants to come here, so...

Bienemy's main  point against him is that we just fired a guy who came up as OC under Reid. What would be bring that is new?

If McDaniels is the hire, either the team rights the ship and becomes successful again or it blows up completely and everyone gets fired/traded/released in 2 or 3 years. I don't see an in-between scenario happening.
