2025 Philadelphia Eagles - Howie sends WR packing. No, not that one. (48 Viewers)

“Here's how badly Michael Carter II wanted to join the champs: Sources say he agreed to delete the $5M guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year to complete the trade to the Eagles”

This is how badly Michael Carter II has been this season . . . per PFF 111th out of 113 CBs.
Carter was drafted in 2021. After the 2023 season, he was widely praised as the best nickel in football. He signed an extension with the Jets that paid him as the best nickel in football.

He got a High Ankle Sprain in the 2024 off-season. He had a back injury in season that hampered him. He missed games and was gimpy.

This year, he missed Weeks 5, 6, 7 with a concussion. He’s played 145 snaps, and his numbers put him at the bottom of PFF grades in a couple of categories. PFF grades are crap, and if you don’t go granular on the info, very misleading.

The kid is a good corner- he didn’t suddenly become a liability. He might still be nursing some injuries. It might take him a minute grok Vic’s scheme. But, if Vic decides to play him, it means the drop off from Coop in the slot is significantly lower than the upside of Coop over Ringo/Jackson/Bennett at CB2.

Is it a homerun? Doubtful, but maybe.

Is it an upgrade? Likely.

Was it worth trading Jon Metchie, who was never gonna see the field? Definitely.

So we traded for an injury prone, slot corner who was good 2 years ago. Got it.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Here are Howie's trade deadline deals:

2023: Kevin Byard, Kentavious Street
2022: Robert Quinn
2021: Kay Vincent, Tay Gowan
2013: Isaac Sopoaga
2010: Mike Bell

Lotta hopes and dreams there that ended up being poo poo here.
Were you expecting Sauce Gardner back for Metchie?

When you make lower level trades like these you’re just looking for a better return. Given the need at CB the potential is there for that. He’s shown it in the past and maybe he lives up to some of it. If not, it cost you $1 🤷‍♂️

Im back from being suspended for 6 weeks cause someones feelings got hurt. Never again will i give the trolls anything at all but the ignore feature
6 weeks is intense. I got 3 days from comments in the Eagles/Giants thread. Welcome back.

All my life I have been told "Talk when you win one" and now we're on #2 and they just can't stand it. The hate for Eagles fans is real.

On cue, I guarantee someone is going to comment on me saying this just to try to get me banned again.

They just can't quit us.
In fairness saying something to the effect of “now we take their soul” immediately after their stud rookie RB had one of the most gruesome injuries might warrant a suspension. Maybe even more than 3 days? But woe is me lol.
This lol

I’m surprised it was only 3 days. That was something else

Just use the ignore feature, it’s great.

These same ones hate the Eagles, yet watch all their games. Just think about that for a minute. They have much bigger issues in real life.

The most talked about team on this board....by miles.

Some fanbases like to brag about "Tv ratings" bc ya know thats all they get these days. I guess thats sort of what this is. Just in font.

I said in my post above that one, if we're trading for a player who was good once but isn't anymore we should have at least traded for a CB who plays the outside and not the slot, for example, Tariq Woolen. Now you're moving DeJean to a new position and you hope he'll be just as effective while putting a guy in DeJean spots who hasn't been very good in a couple years. The potential downgrade at slot, may not make up for any upgrade DeJean gets you on the outside. It's much better to get a minor upgrade on the outside and keep everything else the same. It's why when a lineman goes down, teams don't want to move guys around. Same principle.

If they are confident in Coop playing outside, and I know Vic has a good eye for this stuff, I trust them to make it work. And if it comes down to matchups, Dejean is becoming so versatile that ya know, if we face a team that has a guy moving in/out, I'm confident Vic can find a way to either have Q shadow said WR if he's outside, or have Coop slide inside to cover.

Talking about guys coming up like

St Brown
Odunze
CD
Ladd/Allen

The rest of the way I just don't see certain teams that we'd have to worry about this *that* much like

Washington
Raiders
Green Bay
Washington again

So like half our remaining games, I'd be interested, in how this plays out.

We already saw what we can do to the Dallas #1 ranked passing offense, where we held them to 188 yards. CD went off, but Pickens had 3/30. Ho hum.

I'm excited to see what Vic can do with more tools in the belt. No way we got this Mike Carter guy without Vic saying "oh yeah baby"

Gotcha. I look at it like a no risk approach. IF Carter can see his true potential in our system and be a good slot and DeJean can be a stud outside CB it’s a huge upgrade

If not, it’s what we already have which hasn’t been bad as of late.

I also don’t see it the same as OL changing. DeJean has surly played a fair share of outside CB in practices.
