Asked about vacating the pocket too soon, Jalen Hurts says he needs to stay in and “make the throws,” but he also says “no one sees what I see out there.”

this is the immaturity and "selfish" part imo. i wouldn't use the word selfish, but he's conditioned to thinking he's making the only decision available to him. and it worked well in college so he'll need to re-learn that the ocean is bigger than the college fish tank he came from.

yes jalen, they do see what you see out there and many successful QB's before you saw the same. keep learning and realize asap you need to win more situations using your arm than using your legs.

i keep looking at Lamar Jackson's play this year as the only successful running veteran QB right now and his maturity from last year looks great. I guess i can put D Jones here, but i did say successful. don't be Jones, Jalen. Be Lamar.

 
So what if we end up with the first 3 picks in the draft? I think this is bad for Howie because the rest of the league could boycott dealing with Howie and just consider the draft beginning at #4.

I'm hoping we get our main guy (who ever that is) then drop a few spots at a time acquiring future picks and still get guys in tiers.

Not even him. I hoestly think that is his biggest problem- the game is too fast for him still. I think the accuracy problems and arm strength discussion are overplayed. I think he just needs time to settle in, then we can see better what his ceiling is.

The second that deal is made and there’s news of him potentially starting, Goodell will put at end to it. There’s no way he can play with all his cases still open.

I don’t know if it’s speed or not. His college coach and now 2 NFL coaches have given him designed one-read offenses. They see or know he can’t go through progressions. His All-22 from this last week highlights the issues he continues to have and I don’t think any amount of time fixes it. His flaws are normally ones that are not improved on at this level or it’s rare. 

His arm issues aren’t overplayed either, they’re legit for sure.

I hear this "Should have Kept Foles" over Wentz argument. Its always a lazy argument b/c it was never simply "Hey we have 2 QBs we like, lets just sign one and not sign the other at the end of the season" when it was much much more complicated than that.

I doubt the commissioner lets him play a snap right now even if he is dealt to  miami.

He has to have at least an 8 game suspension if they want to even began to appear like they care about protecting women. 

 
ok, bad form on my part for quoting @G-Kingon my statement initially, it wasn't intended to be focused only on that post gb and it wasn't intended to be as serious sounding as it was, i was laughing when i wrote it. it's just funny when someone points out what is wrong with djax posts.

Thanks for posting the All-22 guy- i like his breakdowns. Watching that, I still think the game is too fast for him because he is young and green. He either bolts out of the pocket because he panics too quickly or his throws are late, because he is not reading the Defense fast enough. Even when he makes the correct read, it's too late.

At some point, he needs to settle in, but he has only started 10 games, I'm willing to wait and see. He may never learn to read Defenses properly. He will never have Carson's arm, but he can fix his wonky mechanics and stop throwing across his body or off his back foot if he makes reads faster.

One thing is for sure.  Hes not a piece of #### who will quit on his team.  So that buys me alot

That said he doesn't seem like an nfl starter to me.   We are in a weird spot.  No great qbs in the draft......not sure what the answer is but it's not hurts 

 
Is there any particular reason Philly doesn't just start the 2022 NFL Draft Party right now? 

"Hi, Houston? Yeah so we got like 3 top-10 selections going in the Draft next year and we hear you might want to part with DeShaun Watson, can we discuss what's reasonable and also what are you being offered so we can 1-up it and help us both out?"

Why? He's a top-5 Known commodity and this off the field nonsense is going to end up being more comical/embarrassing than anything else. He learns a lesson misses a few games but he's pretty darn good. Not sure what you find in the Draft that is going to be better. 

Just my thoughts, we can disagree. I bet some Philly fans would like him.

With HOU and DET continuing to lose, it may be hard to get that coveted #1 pick in the draft which could worth  even more in a trade down.  I think the Colts are decent, so that #1 ends up being about 1.15. I think Miami is likely to be about 1.04 -1.07 with winnable games on the horizon.

We wouldn't like him but most would take him as a business relationship. We had Vick for how many years.

Jalen is still, imo, where he was at the start of the season. He has potential, but the main issues are accuracy and being able to read the field. These are issues he can improve on, and especially reading the filed is an issue that young QBs frequently have.

Can he improve is the question.  If at the end of the year we are saying the exact same thing - still isnt reading the field - that's not great. It could be very well that his ceiling is a backup QB that can come in for a game or two - but not really starter potential.  We knew from the start this season would be about evaluating him.  I'm fine with letting it play out.  I suppose there's an argument to be made to plug in Minshew at some point if we feel like we're 100% out on Jalen progressing, just so we can get a different read on Siriani's offense with a different QB.

 
Watching the All-22 is frustrating. Could you imagine having BDN in this offense with these receivers? It's almost like this offense is built for Foles.

Typically accuracy isn’t something that improves at this level. Of course there’s guys like Allen who get better but it’s rare. 

The biggest concern I have is the unwillingness to stay in the pocket and go through reads. I can’t think of any QB who started off as poor as he’s been and made it to even an average level. When you watch any good QB, from the beginning, they stand tall in the pocket, go through reads and will take a hit  and/or make a good throw. I don’t think he can escape his natural reaction to look for one guy and run. When he said “you don’t see what I see” I think that was telling. He feels pressure that isn’t there and rolls (usually right) immediately. He hold the ball long because he doesn’t see that the WR is open at this level and is usually seconds late or running out of the pocket. I have concerns that the “tiger can’t change his stripes” with him.

To an extent yes...but I've seen Hurts be accurate.  He just frequently isn't.  Makes me wonder if it a matter of learning consistency in his footwork, and that if learning to not be so ready to bail after one read will help.  Not sure.

But in general, yea - I suspect the most likely scenario is that he doesn't ever improve enough to be a consistent starter.

Off the top of my head: Steve Young in the Tampa years. I am NOT saying Hurts is the 2nd coming of Young. But Young had happy feet early on in his career.

I agree 100%. Give him the season, and change up the playcalling so he is under center more with a real designed running game and 3-step drops.

The problem is, if he doesn't progress, what do we do next year?

Its a bad combination of a Coach over his head and a QB he didn't pick he has to make work. 

But the problem appears to be the owner. How do we fix THAT is the real question.

100%. Won't listen to anyone. Has a favorite cronie. Will only hire coaches that are inexperienced/don't have a ton of power/people he can control. Seems to be calling the way the games are played. Yeah, except with just the single ring.

If John Harbaugh became avail next year, he wouldn't even interview him if we had a HC vacancy.

Im not there, yet. Hurts has receivers open a lot and it’s not asking a lot to have an NFL QB make some of these throws. For all we know he hits them all in practice and that’s what leads to the calls in game. Even with that said, his approach has been odd to me. I fully expected Sanders to average 20 touches per game this year.

Read this piece where when Doug was the coach, the Eagles came back in 2 wins. 1 where the winds were like 25 mph+ and we ran the ball a lot to win. And all Lurie could say (my interpretation) wasn't "good job, nice W" but "Why didn't we pass the ball more" 

I had to step back after that one.

Oh it’s definitely possible it could be an organizational philosophy. Every coach (besides maybe Chip) was a pass first coach. The same issues used to be there with Reid too……but it’s all good now that he has a QB so idk. I can see both sides

It'll just switch again. To half the fan base liking him and the other half still wishing for something/someone else. Been doing it for a long time now. 

I don't want him, for personal reasons. My wife is still the "Your team hired a Dog Killer" type so I don't need "Woman Harasser" added to that pile along w Snowballing Santa, batteries, Mike Irvin's neck, etc from the typical general American that likes to hate on the city of Philadelphia.

MoP trying hard there. of course we want the football player in deshaun, but man, that's a lot of baggage that, to be fair, could end up being nothing yet. should we care what kind of a man he is?

a resounding "yes" for me when it's extreme in the wrong direction. but i will admit, deshaun or jalen?

I hear ya. At minimum, even if "nothing illegal happened" he's going to serve time on some sort of suspension. No chance that doesn't happen. Deshaun talen over Jalen? By miles sure. This team isn't ready to compete RIGHT NOW even if we got Deshaun RIGHT NOW so to me, the point is moot when you have that + looming suspension. Time goes by, new opportunities pop up. Players rise/fall, etc. I'm not in a rush to trade for what appears to be a man of "Not great character" who could be here for 10 years, when we can wait it out a couple and hopefully get a More talented player that also isn't an asshead. 

 
I agree with the others, is DW Top-5 QB, yes he has been there.  But as a fan, I don't want him. 

I would rather keep the three-1st rounders, use them to improve our Offensive Line and Secondary.  Offer a trade with one of them to get Aaron Rodgers next year before Denver, run the ball with Sanders and win the Lombardi.
