Howie manuevered everything to get a QB that lead us to a super bowl. Then when he realized he made a mistake in paying him, he didn't double down just to prove he was right. He drafted his replacement just in case. Then got rid of him for another first.
The guy has his deficiencies but he adapts on the fly and doesn't wait for things to just work out. He makes change happen.
Not true. Doug wanted a developmental QB he could mold into his own and a younger QB to back up Wentz. So Howie having a rocky relationship gave him what he wanted similar to getting him Reagor instead of drafting the guy he and others wanted in Jefferson as peace offerings to Doug to mend the relationship.
From what I was told the intention was to never have Hurts replace Wentz fully but be a Back up who could start you some games if Wentz went down. They also didn't want to have another situation as the playoff game where Wentz had a freak injury and had an old McCown who blow out his hammy playing and played on one leg. Contrary to popular belief Hurts was never suppose to dethrone Wentz as the guy here. Unfortunately unforeseen Circumstances happened and we are where we are now. It's also why there's a large contingency of guys on the Eagles staff who didn't or still don't think Hurts is a franchise QB. He was never drafted to be one here.
However Howie did do a good job by not doubling down and getting resources back after his mistake.
