2021 Weekly Injury Thread (1 Viewer)

Yeah it was great when the mods would create a thread each week.  One of the most useful threads IMHO.
Next week someone can just start a new one and if not pinned, it should still stay at or near the top with the updates.

ETA: nvm, Joe’s on it…

It'll be just like all the other player threads. Start with the most current posts. Thanks.
I’ll just start a new one each week then.  It’s been that way in years past and preferred by almost EVERONE.  Why in the world would you want to change that?  If it isn’t broken don’t fix it.

If you'll be responsible for starting it every week, that's ok and we'll kill this one.

But do not have duplicate injury threads running. Do you want to be responsible for it every week?
Only if someone else hasn’t already started one, but yes, I’ll start one by game time on Sunday if no thread has been started.  I’ll tell you one thing, people would hate a thread with multiple weeks included and lots of pages.

Cool. That's great if you can be responsible for it each week. I think it's a lot more consistent to just update the one "official" thread but if folks want a new one each week, you're welcome to be responsible for it.

All I ask is that we don't have two injury threads at the same time.

I won’t be the one who starts a duplicate thread.  I can’t be responsible

for what others do however.

Looking more at this, I think it's much better to have one thread that way we don't have duplicates or don't have what we had this week with people asking where the thread is.

This week showed our current system is broken.

Let's keep it like we have it here with one thread.

By the end of the year, it'll have a lot of pages in it. But so do tons of our threads here. Like all those other threads, you just start at the most recent and it works fine.

There a dot/star to go to the first new post. I don’t see where you’d have to wade thru prior weeks except maybe the first time into the thread

Let's get the topic back to injuries.

And for all of these, let's have the focus be on what kind of effect we think the injury will have on the rest of the team.

Need a new thread each week because it’s a hassle wading through previous Weeks injuries.
I LOVE  FBG   but the one criticism Ive had since they went to the  megathreads is  Its a pain to try to GUESS where current news starts and old news ends ....especially in threads where there is a large amount of past and current posts.  I dont really care about  news about a quarterback that is now on his 5th team,  just his current team and maybe only current info.  Not to mention when there is news affecting several players and you end up having to piece news together from several threads.  I much prefer to click a link knowing its something new (even if it means going 2 or 3 pages deep to catch up on all the news.  Sign me up for as many separate  threads as need be to let old news roll  off the pages.

that helps some but doesnt help alot if you dont visit every thread on a regular basis.  You still have to search for new content if you dont read every thread every day.  For example I just clicked the star/dot in the bragging/#####in thread and it took me back to 2019  (extreme example for sure but the team and player threads are almost as bad to me)

I hear you. The big thing is having clear subject lines.

Whether it's a 3 page thread or a 30 page thread, the key is a clear subject line.

I don't mind a 30 page thread for Tom Brady. I do mind a 30 page thread for Tom Brady if the subject line has something about him being a Patriot.

This thread will be the same way. The board software makes it super easy to get to most recent posts. So it may be a 30 page thread later in the season, but it'll always be about injuries happening right then. So I think this makes sense.

It solves the problem of someone starting a new thread every Thursday (like we failed to do this week).

Let's try this and see.

And now let's get back to the topic please.

Fair in general but most of us are in the injury thread extensively each weekend. At most you might have to skim past the Tuesday thru Saturday posts.

The other thing I usually do is click not on the thread title but on the last post by the poster who's noted on the far right. That takes you to the last post.

This solution feels very lazy.

The better solution is to assign that task to someone, as part of any other weekly assignments.  If tis important, its worth doing well, rather than half-assing it.

The ideal solution here is a new thread started on Thursdays, with the latest NFL injury report data for Questionable/Out (or however they report these days) in the very first post of the thread, which makes it both useful and easy to find.

TB WR Mike Evans came up limping after a pass route. It was a non contact thing. He was able to walk off but clearly something seemed wrong.

‘Super easy” is debatable, I know you guys do your best but the board has run pretty well for a long time with the inmates getting a vote

Eckler to the medical tent

helmet to helmet from Diggs

nothing official yet but he’s done, was totally dazed and his mouthguard fell limply out of his mouth

Did all the mods quit or something?

Also, half the time I post, it just hour glasses forever. Plus I don't see the latest post thing since the last update.

Chalk me up to not liking one main thread.  How hard is it to create a new one each week? It’s worked for years. Now we need to change it because someone dropped the ball for Week 2?

   “Inmates”?

This board is what it is because of the posters here. Always has been. Not “inmates”.  And we try awfully hard to make it a place people get value from.

From the 100+ year old idiom “you can’t have the inmates running the asylum.” The etymology is thought to date back to when DW Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks started the production company United Artists. At the time the idea seemed absurdist - letting the performers have greater control projects instead of powerful, monolithic studios. UA is still around.

You're right, it’s the members who post here that make the Forums great. Not all that dissimilar from the original UA when you think about it.

It’s nearly always used in jest. Nothing to be offended by, Joe.

Odd choice but not offended. Mostly seemed odd he’d think the people here aren’t valued or “have a vote.” There are lots of things where there are people who have different opinions and we have to make a decision that not everyone agrees with.  But we have always tried to do the right thing.

Respectfully...

Did we vote on having one season long thread instead of a pinned weekly thread? As others have mentioned, it’s nice to have the compartmentalized threads.

I often don’t watch games live, Sunday is church and family day. Might follow online and check in game threads. But not always. Sometimes I’m busy all day and just start catching up Sunday night. I see a stud with an odd stat line I immediately go to the 1-2 page Week X Injury Thread. It’s been an awesome resource to utilize for many years.

NBD, I’ll find another way to figure out  new injuries for each week. But maybe keep in mind most subscribers won’t give you feedback. They will, but it’s indirect and silent. The just start going somewhere else.

Maybe I’m not understanding.

Can you not find injuries exactly the same way with a pinned injury thread like this one in the same way you’d find injuries if it was labeled week 2?

Didn’t an employee of yours used to create a weekly injury thread and lock it back in the day?  Why couldn’t it be that way again?

Sounds like the entire SF backfield is banged up today: Sermon (concussion) Mitchell (shoulder) and McHasty (ankle). With Wilson not expected back until November I hadn't considered adding and holding. I'm thinking given today's events that might be more plausible now.

We haven't done much of this but if people wanted to vote on whether we had one "official thread" for injuries vs a new thread each week, we could do that if people felt it was important.

I thought with as much as people like having "official" type big threads for players where all the info is one thread, they'd feel the same about an injury thread.

It really doesn't matter that much to me. As I've said, we mostly want to do what is best for the most people.

Agreed. They're having a rough go.

I just picked up Hasty. What happened to his ankle?

Just do a new weekly injury thread each week. Jesus this place freaking weird. Why is joe so hell bent on doing it his way?

And really, you’ve never heard of “the inmates running the asylum”?

Its a figure of speech my guy, "inmates running the asylum" ?  It looks like an OCD buzzsaw has ran through this forum, which are/supposed to be fun
