2022-23 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the Heat did”, Miami fan says to giant pile of cocaine (3 Viewers)

If they deal Mitchell, they could be bad for a while...they are not a FA/trade destination for stars so they would have to be flawless in the draft.
Yeah they've got to rebuild through the draft. Which is what they'll do and armed with a plethora of picks.

The worst thing to be: a middling vet team. Which is what they were. I'd do exactly what they're doing. So far, they've got 5 1st rounders for Gobert & Royce Oneale. Gobert is a great post defender. But he's made zero difference in the postseason the last 2 years (including being exposed and run off the court vs. the Clips)

An absolute no brainer for Utah to have a fire sale as middling vet filled team. Absolutely love this haul by the Jazz. 4 1sts alone for Gobert is nuts IMO (not to mention they got rotation/tradeable pieces)

If you haven’t seen the thread, our guy Wikkid passed away overnight. I hate when people say these things but I am sure he would want the basketball talk to continue in here, however this is extremely sad to me and I really don’t know what else to say. He was the first reply to this thread, he was always here with his extremely unique posts. Just very sad.

Kings get Huerter for a pretty well protected first. Between that and Monk I guess I will withdraw my criticism of not giving Divincenzo a qualifying offer.
Was skeptical of the Halliburton trade last year, but Kings have a solid team put together right now.

In the old thread I said the Jazz need to pick a lane and do it. It is nice to see they read the thread.

The real question is which one of you works for the front office of the Jazz and how do I claim my reward for giving you the inspiration?

Mitchell is the x-factor...if he is good with this and wants to stay, I love what they are doing...but if he now wants out, they need to get more than just picks for him, they need to add some good young talent as well.

I would not be surprised if Riley and the Heat make a big move for someone like Mitchell...the Heat are very good, but I don't think this current team can win a championship...they have the pieces to do something that could get them closer to that.
Due to the designated rookie rule, I believe that Adebayo and Mitchell can't be on the same team. Obviously if they were both part of the deal that wouldn't matter.

Wow. I’ll have more thoughts later but wow. I love going for it like this. Huge gamble with all those picks but if it works out they won’t be worth much anyway. This is the definition of going for it when you have a chance.

I have confidence the GM isn’t incompetent for the first time in 12 years and they’ll be better, but still not a playoff team yet probably. Wish they played in the East.

You keep saying this and it will NEVER happen. They might want KD and Kyrie to rot, but what idiot would take a billion dollar franchise down just to get back at a couple of disgruntled employees. The answer is NO ONE, EVER!!!

Seriously, players would never sign there, players would refuse to go there if they are drafted by the Nets, sports is an entertainment and gambling business. You gamble on players and sometimes it doesn't work and you cut your losses and move on.
But, didn’t the Sixers let Simmons “rot” until they could make a trade they liked?

Just nuts that the Celts got a very good starting PG (IMO) for rubbish and a 1st. And Jazz got 5 1sts and actual rotation players that can be dealt (if desired) for Gobert.

If I think one of them is going to make a big difference in the playoffs, it's Brogden. Gobert is forced out on perimeter in a more up-down game in playoffs and is a clown on skates when passed the ball, poor foul shooter, best ball behind him.

The problem with Brogdan is his feet. There were concerns when he was drafted and here we are like 6 years later and it is still.an issue.

Gotta give Stevens a lot of credit...between the trade-exceptions, having all their first-round picks and being in very good shape with the cap he put them in the position to be able to do this...they have pretty much the whole team signed to multi-year deals so they can either ride this group out for a few years or make another move if it makes sense...I said it before but I really did not know what to expect of Stevens as a GM...it was such a surprise when he got the job but so far he seems to really understand how to get things done...maybe he can be GM for the Bruins as well.

Yeah I understand injury concerns and could make things go south. JMO Celtics desperately need a distributor that they've missed since Hayward left. I think they've got that guy back in Brogdon if he's healthy. To get him for the complete trash + late 1st is awesome for the Celts IMO. Love guards like him capable of playing on/off the ball.

Definitely an issue but with the depth they have they should be able to manage him smartly and if he misses time, it won't be a killer because of that depth...if they had dealt Smart and needed Brogdon to be the definitive starter they would have a ton of exposure and could regret it...as Craig points out they literally gave up nothing to get him so this is all gravy.

Boston next year looking like

Smart, Brown, Tatum, Al, Rob

Bench: Brogdon, Gallo, White, Grant, Pritchard

Seems like an improvement, especially adding a year of playoff experience to everyone's belt. Would love to see them add in the front court. See if any vets wanna sign up with the team. Grant had his one big game in Milwaukee, but he didn't contribute much besides that. And will be wondering what the efficiency/minutes they can get out of Horford with another year older.

ETA: wowzers, didn't realize Al was getting paid that much, jeebus. When his deal is up after next year, that's a #### ton of money freed up.

I think the fact that he was that cheap to get says something.

Maybe. Depends on where they are against the hard cap.

PG - D'Angelo Russell, Jordan McLaughlin

SG - Anthony Edwards, Jaylen Nowell

SF - Jaden McDaniels, Taurean Prince

PF - Karl-Anthony Towns, Kyle Anderson

C - Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid

Yeah, that'll do.

It's an experiemnent, no doubt, and in a league going smaller going bigger is obviously a risk but it worked for Cleveland last year.  If it works, Gobert and KAT compliment each other perfectly, Ant and Jaden get better, and this is a championship contender.  At a minimum they should at least be a playoff team for the foreseeable future with KAT and Rudy locked up and Ant likely signing his extension this year, which mitigates the draft picks giiven away a bit.

I understand the risks of giving up the picks. I understand the concern about playing the big guys together in the playoffs.  I understand Rudy being played off the floor by the Clippers two years ago. I understand going into the season with McLaughlin as your back-up with a nagging injury prone D-Lo in front of him isn't ideal. Trust me, I know the risks. And I am 100% excited by this move.

KAT and Rudy are a great fit together and this takes all the pressure off of KAT on defense. And they got him without having to give up D-Lo or Jaden McDaniels (who our dearly departed Wikkied was very high on) is fantastic. They added a 3x DPOY, 4x All-NBA, 6x All-Defense, and 3x All-Star without giving up anything that matters for the near future. Jarred Vanderbilt is awesome but with KAT sliding to the 4 he was expendable. The only guy that sucked to give up was Malik Beasley for his shooting and instand offesne off the bench.

I haven't checked their cap right now, but if they can get a veteran back-up PG and a bench scorer type we'll be ready to roll. And D-Lo will come off the books at the end of the season, right when Ant's extension will be kicking in so the Gobert contract doesn't murder their cap situation, though the PG situation will need to be figured out if D-Lo can't be resigned to a cheaper deal. In any case, love this deal.

LOVE it.

Wolf’s went from a 8 seed team to a contender.  To not have to move Russell is crazy.  Towns playing power forward, will mean increased three point scores for him, he will be a nightmare to defend.  now having the best rim defender in their conference gives them the edge they needed.  The jazz got a lot of draft picks, but none will be lottery,  maybe they can find some players late in the draft, but I suspect they will use some of them as trade chips down the road.

Jazz should have some interesting things happening on their end. Apparently they're keeping Mitchell, which means those picks are probably going to be used sooner rather than later in trades.

Donte DiVincenzo to GSW for 2/$9M

Nice pickup if he can stay healthy.

ETA:  2nd year is a player option

Just saw the pictures of his wife and the police report. I take back what I said.

Johnson's diagnosed injuries included a closed fracture of her nasal bone, a rib contusion, multiple bruises and a neck muscle strain, according to an apparent discharge document from a hospital emergency department.

He needs help, and until he gets it I hope he never gets a single contract offer. He also beat her in front of their kids.

There’s a ‘significant obstacle’ on the Kevin Durant to Miami trade front, per @sam_amick

“Durant, it seems, would only want to play on a Heat team that includes Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry.”

Dude wants the whole enchilada.

Dude wants a cakewalk.

Give me a break.
