2022-23 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the Heat did”, Miami fan says to giant pile of cocaine (2 Viewers)

So all the jazz got for their 3 players is 1 top4 protected first? Seems light, but maybe there was no first of any kind for any of them individually so this seemed like the best move for them.

Seems like the Lakers got 3 rotation guys for a first. Pretty crazy.
More importantly—they did a massive job in attempting to shore up their lack of 3 point shooting. On paper—this deal looks like a very good near term win for them. How it translates in reality is anybody’s guess.

ESPN Sources: The Lakers are finalizing deal to land Minnesota’s D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt in trade including Mike Conley and picks to Timberwolves and Russell Westbrook and a lightly protected 2027 LA first-round pick to Jazz.

Players have been informed of trade and deal is fully complete now, sources said.

Pretty good trade all around imo.

Lakers just got 3 rotations pieces and only had to give up one of their available picks, including two shooters (D-Lo included based on this year).

Wolves get a better PG who is under contract for another season (but old), another veteran which they need, Alexander-Walker who is worth a flyer on (former 1st round pick), and three 2nd round picks to replenish their draft capitol (worth way more to them than the Jazz here, if only because it gives them more flexibility with trades).

Jazz get another future 1st ,and hopefully lose more games.

I’m a big NAW fan. Feel bad for the dude because he’s had soo many coaches and played in so many systems in a relatively short career so far. I’m not sure how much time he’ll get in Minnesota—but I’d like to see them utilize him.

glad to see NBA hasn't changed. funny shenanigans at the end of this 6'ers game. luckily NBA doesn't really matter until April it seems, regular season seems more pointless then it ever was

Kyrie on the court for Dallas tonight, Luka in street clothes.

sources connected with people who are said to know members of the Mavs organization's representatives say the two are already feuding!

/Greenberg tomorrow probably

Seeding might matter a bit in the East this year. If the chalk advances, 2 v 3 will be a bloodbath whichever teams are in it and I think the 1 seed will be happy to play the mangled corpse of whoever comes out of that one.

Pleasantly surprised with what the Lakers were able to get. Gives them some nice pieces for next year - either for the Lakers or as traceable salaries. Russ’s expiring deal was going to do nothing for them next year and they’d still be over the cap if/when he walked.

The 2027 1st is top 4 protected, and conveys immediately as a 2027 2nd if not a 1st, so the Lakers can still trade their 2029 1st if they want.

I’d like to see them flip Beverly for someone like Josh Richardson so Ham stops playing all these undersized three guard lineups.

I’m hoping it’s not too late to help this season, but we’ll see.

The Phoenix Suns are acquiring star forward Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Suns are sending Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, four first-round picks and a 2028 pick swap to Brooklyn, according to sources.

Phoenix is also getting T.J. Warren in the deal, sources said.

Durant wanted the move and new Suns owner Mat Ishbia pushed to get a deal done on the eve of Thursday's NBA trade deadline

I don't see it as a good trade in the slightest.

Certainly getting rid of Westbrook is helpful. But that's only one factor.

DLo is a zero defender. He's also a low BBIQ player. He doesn't make players around him better. Can he space the floor? Yes, but he's not that great moving off the ball. Which he is going to have to do to play with LBJ. DLo is more effective with the ball in his hands, but he doesn't offer the efficiency to justify that. He's a guy who gives you high counting stats, empty ones, on a very bad team going nowhere. He's that kind of player.

Beasley can space the floor. His shot selection keeps shifting from good to bad to confusing at times. He's also not going to give you the kind of plus defense this team needs. He's also got that streaky dumb player vibe to him.

Vanderbilt can give them some tough defense. But no floor spacing. Which negates his overall value since Davis and LBJ are already a questionable fit together. LBJ needs to play point center at this point in his career. He has no desire and gives no effort to defend on the wing.

You can't keep trading away all your draft picks. That's not how you build a sustainable team. The Lakers burned a 1st rounder to get RWB, then burned another to get rid of him.

The reason Ainge struggled to move Vanderbilt and Beasley earlier and individually raises the same issues I've just brought up. They were still available for a reason.

Young Patrick Beverley was almost a member of the Miami Heat when it had LBJ. Why was he cut? Because LBJ demanded that a washed up zero like Juwan Howard make the roster.

That's the LBJ MO here. Force the franchise to trade draft picks for overpaid ill fitting parts.

KD news is really big. Suns just got really scary. I also like Josh Hart to the Knicks. Nice grab for them. I also feel like Toronto kinda stole Poetl. That was a solid pickup for them.

More news—not trade related—but looks like Jaylen Brown might miss some time. Shams is saying the friendly fire hit from Tatum resulted in a facial fracture. I hope it’s nothing too serious. Already ruled out through the all star break and possibly longer.

Lakers just got better, and as someone who has watched D-Lo in every game for a few years he's not a low BBIQ player at all. He's a high BBIQ player with limitations. He was the Wolves defensive leader last year. Say what you want about the stats and yes I know they weren't great, but watching him direct players around and where to be on defense he is smarter than people think. He's very, very flawed but also quite underrated. On a team that needs shooting he's a good fit.

Beasley is Beasley. he shoots. Sometimes he scores. But, again, Lakers desperately need wing shooting. I'm not sure who else they could have gotten that would be better.

Vanderbilt isn't a huge upgrade over what they have, but he could be. Worth a shot. I know Wolves fans would take him back.

Your point about you can't keep trading your draft picks is super relevant to most teams. But not this team. Getting Beasley, Vanderbilt, and Russell and only giving up one 1st round pick is a ****ing steal for these guys.

imo the Lakers really maxmized their trade value. They got 3 parts who matter while only getting rid of one of their picks. Better than trading both for Beal or some such imo. Let LBJ and Davis cook.

What would you do if you were in the Lakers situation? Realistically. I think this is a slam dunk win for them.

And congrats to Jae Crowder!! He gets what he wants. That good old veteran leader..... 👍

Have a good season.

(I realize it's unlikely he even plays for the Nets)
🤣Yeah we love this for him.

He can't spew the whole 'I just want to win a championship ' crap because.....no you wanted to sit.

You can't spew the whole "I want to help the young guys / vet presence' crap because......no you wanted to sit.

He destroyed his current and future market. Why they couldn't deal him all season and why a throw in to this deal. Because those above are the only reasons why you'd bring someone like him in.

GREATEST (and yeah it deservers all-caps) THREAD TITLE . . . OF ALL-TIME!

And that comes from a (somewhat over-served) Lakers fan. It was a a travesty, watching Kareem have to go through that ****.

KD news is really big. Suns just got really scary.

Chris Paul and Devin Booker are a horrible defensive backcourt.

With Bridges gone, that means Torrey Craig becomes, by default, the primary defensive cover man on the wing. Even with Okogie spelling in, that's not enough. Damion Lee was a nice pickup, but his good burn relied on feeding off of synergy with Mikal Bridges. This was a huge loss for that team.

I get why you make this deal. But the Suns should have kept Bridges and moved Ayton instead. The point of getting Durant is to win a ring. You stand a better chance to do that with Bridges around versus Ayton.
