2022 New York Football Giants (under new management of Schoen & Daboll) (2 Viewers)

Do the Giants have anything to play for next week?

Congrats Giant fans
ruin the eagles season? otherwise no.
I mean it helps Dallas' then, so not sure they're really spoiling anything by winning.
I actually hate the Eagles more than I hate Dallas so I would love to ruin their season.
Yeah I’ve been saying for weeks now the nightmare scenario in my mind is losing to Dallas (expected) and then ****ting the bed against NO, setting up a must win in week 18 against a Divisional opponent. As an Eagles fan I’m less than thrilled about the prospect of having to beat the giants for the second time this year in the last week of the year.

Congrats to y’all; color me surprised by the Giants this year.

Actually If the Giants beat the Eagles I think there is a chance that they would have to face them again in the first round of the playoffs ... that would kind suck
Not with the way Minny and SF are playing today. If both scores hang on, then giants can't play anyone but one of those 2 teams in round 1

Don’t care who we played, great win and the great season rolls on. Not really thinking about the Eagles next week either…we’ve got bigger things ahead. Rest the guys who we can, get reps for the guys who can use it, let’s keep getting healthier and make a run.

And for all the Jones haters, well, sorry, afraid you are going to be stuck with him for a while. Dudes done everything asked of him and earned that new contract this offseason.

Yeah I think your right ....
Even if the 49rs, Eagles, Minny, and Dallas all end up 13-4 ... In that scenerio 9ers (1), Dallas(2) , Minny (3) and Tampa (4) would win the Divisions. 9ers would be 1st seed based on conf record and get the bye. Eagles (5) Giants (6) and whover is (7) would be WCs

Eagles (5) vs Tampa (4)
Dallas (2) vs (7) ?
Minny (3) vs Giants (6)

But again, zero reason for the Giants to play their starters at all.

Will be interesting what they do. Coughlin played the starters in 2007 in the last game and that worked out well for them against the best team in the league.

Yeah sitting the starters never works well ... Last week I actually heard that the Giants will not sit the starters if they clinch. The way they ran Jones today when the game was well in hand is a clear indication that they will not

I'd play all of the starters at least a half except anyone that is banged up Like Leonard Williams andBarkley
Some of the injured players need reps to get ready for the playoffs ...Adoree jackson and Mckinney, Gates, Bredison, Bellinger

Yeah sitting the starters never works well
Do you have evidence of this? Sitting starters is pretty common and I'd guess those teams don't 'never' win. I'd say it works more than it doesn't if you look at first playoff game W/L record of teams who had clinched and rested them.

Eagles opened as 13 point favourites. The line 100% suggests that they will be resting their starters.

kind of cherry picked his post, are you worried about us playing starters next week?

Nothing to do with if I'm worried. My point is simply that they are going to rest their starters. He believes the opposite and says there are clear indications that they will not do this.

Didn't cherry pick, he also said "The way they ran Jones today when the game was well in hand is a clear indication that they will not".
- No, it does not at all. They needed that game and there was still a chance (even if tiny) of a comeback. There is a 0% chance next week of it being relevant.

I stand corrected if he does actually end up doing that.

Yup some coaches just have the mindset to always play your starters no matter what. Belichick was the same way. How many times did he have Brady throwing the ball deep in games where the Patriots had a huge lead? It also looks better for their overall record to get an extra win. Personally I would bench the key players (especially Barkley and others who are dealing with minor injuries). If healthy, I would not bench Jones. He needs to stay in rhythm.

In the next NFL draft, the consensus Top 3 QBs probably won't last beyond #7. To get one of them in THE NEXT DRAFT, you want to be close so you don't spend as many assets on the trade-up, if an opportunity arises. My question is not "can they get a good NFL player" because that largely depends on depth in the draft, which depends on the position. QB is rarely ever deep where you can get a franchise QB in the 20s-30s. We all know why Lamar Jackson was still there at #32 despite plus athleticism and a strong arm. :<_<:

@Uruk-Hai , agree to disagree. There's no benefit to making the playoffs when it's going to be a quick 1-and-done and we won't answer any questions about players that we don't already know/have an idea about. If this was a situation where the D was largely intact and Saquon was 100% healthy, maybe I could see how the young defenders play in a tight playoff pressure situation. Or maybe if Daboli finally says "eff it, we're going full Josh Allen and see how Jones processes/does". But he won't because he knows Jones can't make that leap beyond poor man's Ryan Tannehill/homeless man's Jimmy Garoppolo. At some point Kakfa's just gotta throw Daniel Jones to the wolves and see if he can process/see what he's learned.

As an Eagles' fan, i can't say this is wrong. Still amazed at how far this Giants team has come under Daboll with the lack or receiving talent.

i would vote Hurts MVP, and Daboll coach of the year

it's an interesting article, and hard to figure out what the bert course of action is.

i think smart move for Giants is to rest guys who really need it, and i would play starters 1st half. i think there are some side factors that the Giants should be little concerned about (i am betting the Eagles DL wants that most sacks in regular season record, and they need like 5 or 6 to get it). i think you also have a rookie coach and a team trying to build culture that would want to have some momentum going into the playoffs.

Eagles made their own bed here, so this is all on them. Should have handled business against the Saints, and now they have to prepare for this game with the thought that NYG bring their best

I think Daboll starts his first teamers except for guys who may have an injury concern,L.Williams for sure. Then I think game script determines how long they play. He wants to build a winning culture, and he is,so the longer the game stays competative the longer the starters stay in. His comment to the reporter that asked him about resting starters says it all,"You can rest when the seasons over"

Looks likely the G-men will be heading back to Minnesota for the Playoffs, unless..

(1) Arizona beats SF and (2) Minn beats Chicago, then we head to SF.

I'm reading my tag notifications and I'm assuming there are a lot of younger Giants fans that post here who weren't around for the Dave Brown/Kent Graham days.

I was. Jones isnt as bad as either of those two. Brown, in particular, was awesome. At throwing a pick six. Once a game. I never understood it watching on TV. Back then they’d do summer camp in Albany. Close enough for me and friends to make a day of it and attend the session(s). It was then it finally dawned on me. I was sitting behind the offense on day and Brown threw the out… it had zero pace. I swore, I could hop the fence, run the twenty or so yards and intercept it myself. No zip. At all.the ball just hung in air. The cornerbacks must have salivated.

Brown was good at getting people to jump offsides tho.

yep, I remember the classic Dave Brown screen pass Pick sixes where the minute he threw it out, you the viewer was going "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Again, I hope maybe Daboli unlocks something in Daniel Jones in 2023 because it's trending right now that he'll get a one-year deal (hopefully for cheap). But right now we're in Year 5 and we honestly still don't know if he can be a competent NFL quarterback, much less one that can go out and win a game by himself. It's a Hell situation to be in and the Ginats braintrust has to make the right call because screwing it up can set the franchise back half a decade.

It's weird it's like you are stuck in 2021 yet you have somehow seen 5 years of Jones??

Get on board the DJ Train to the playoffs!!!!!!!
Who knows ... The way Daniel Jones is escalating people around him he might even escalate you to a knowlegable fan !!!!!

By the way Jones is trending towards Multi year $30M per year whether it is with the Giants (most likely) or another team.

Yea Giants messed up not taking the 5th year option on Jones imo, especially since you hired a great offensive coach in Daboll. Around 4k yards, 22 TD's, 5 picks... He's top 10 in QBR and completion %. Passing TD's are low but the 7 rushing TD's helps,

He's going to get 30 mil a year imo if he wants it.

I don't think it counts as "Year 5" until next season....

This season has proven that he can be competent.
His passer rating is 92.5 – 13th in the league
His QBR rating is 60.4 – 9th in the league
He has cut down his turnovers a ton
He has also added 700 yards of rushing with 7 rushing TD's

This coming from a guy who thought that the Giants should have drafted Josh Allen (LB) instead of Jones in that draft (and was very mad about them not doing it) and rolled with Eli one more season (I didn’t like any of the QB in that draft)

LOL. He just led the team to the playoffs throwing the ball to Isiah Hodgins and Richie Freaking James. If that doesn't qualify him as a competent NFL quarterback I have no idea what game you are watching. He's going to get re-signed to a multi-year deal unless some other QB needy team comes out and blows the Giants offer out of the water. Just go look any film breakdown of him, especially over the last 1/2 of the season, and all anyone talks about is how he is playing at a much higher level than he ever has. Amazing what solid, stable coaching can do for a talented player.

And yes, I am old enough to remember Dave Brown, Kent Graham, and Danny Kanell. And Daniel Jones aint any of those guys.

Same with me ... I did not want the Giants to draft a QB and wanted Josh allen there.
I thought Jones was very impressive at the combine and would have been OK with him going later @ pick 17 but that turned out to be Sexy Dexy so we cant complain
2019 turned out to be a hell of a draft for the Giants ... and could have been even better if the freakin Baker thing never happened

I've been on board with Jones since year one ... If you take the fumbles out of the picture (which you cant) his rookie season is statiscally one of the best rookie QB seasons in NFL history.
2020 and 2021 the Oline, WRs, Coaching and Injuries to Barkley were impossible for any QB to overcome

What he is doing in 2022 with still a bad oline and throwing to 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th round picks (Bellinger, Slayton, Hodgins and James ) is pretty damn good
And as far as protecting the ball ... I believe he is #1 in the NFL in 2022

Looks like Daboll was playing mind games with "Vanilla Vick"

Start at the position that will decide the fate of any team until the end of time. Into this 2022 season, the new regime stuck with Daniel Jones on a one-year trial basis. They declined his fifth-year option for 2023, but believed Jones was talented enough to be the starter in Year 1 of a rebuild. Veteran Tyrod Taylor was added for insurance. The Giants were obviously choosing to punt this franchise-defining decision down the road, a fiscally smart maneuver considering fired GM Dave Gettleman left the roster in financial ruins. There was no need to anoint anyone. Not yet. But Daboll also knew this: He needed to test Jones’ mental toughness.

So, when training camp began, he devised a plan. As one source close to the coach explained, Daboll purposely structured practice for Jones to fail and Taylor to succeed.

“He wanted Daniel Jones to deal with the adversity,” this source explained. “He wanted to see how he dealt with it on a daily basis. And he passed it with flying colors. So, I know he loves Daniel Jones.

“He loves Daniel Jones. He loves him.”

Practices are always scripted. Daboll would tell defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale which plays he’d be running when Jones was in the game, this source explains, and had Martindale call defensive plays that’d intentionally work. And when Taylor entered? Exact opposite. Plays were scripted on both sides to set him up for success.

Jones did not flinch. Daboll was thrilled.

So The Niners are going to beat Arizona and Big Blue will be making a return trip to Minnesota.
What do you think the opening line will be?
Will The Giants cover?
Will they be playing the following weekend?
And finally, who's going to finish second behind Coach Daboll for Coach Of The Year?

Pat Leonard
@PLeonardNYDN

Leonard Williams (neck) and Azeez Ojulari (ankle) are definitively ruled out for Sunday at Eagles, per Giants HC Brian Daboll.

Dan Salomone @Dan_Salomone

Richie James has caught 81.4% of his targets this season, highest by any WR with 70+ targets since Michael Thomas & Tyler Lockett in 2018.
The remaining 18.6% are drops ...lol
I actually like James he's had a few drops and of course the Punt RT fumbles but he has been pretty damn solid othewise and getting better

And that was 2 All Pro WRs with 2 All Pro SB winning QBs throwing to them ... How bout that DJ!!

Dang that's impressive
Richie made himself some money with that performance. He is UFA after the season.

Since week 10:
Isaiah Hodgins 33 receptions - 351 yards - 4 TD

Popular alleged trade target Jerry Jeudy since week 10
32 receptions - 369 yards - 3 TD

Rest everyone Sunday. Call up the entire taxi squad and let them play. Give Eagles the number one seed. Niners beat a decimated Cardinals team. Giants head to Minnesota next week for a PLAYOFF GAME! Rebuild year one: Build a winning culture...check. Give Daniel Jones real NFL coaching to see if he develops...check. Improve the offensive line...check. Make the PLAYOFFS? That wasn't on the list,but...check!

Everyone n the NFL thought that the Eagles Tanking vs WAS was a disgrace and now we are going to do the same????

How could we complain about the Eagles tanking to screw us over and then turn around and tank a game to screw over San Fran ... that's playing scared and will bite us in the ***.

Also Eagles destroyed us in the first game and will detroy us if we tank tomorrow ... What do you expect the result to be if we meet them again in the playoffs.

Send a message to the Eagles tomorrow ... This is for ****ing us over in 2020-21 and we can beat your *** if we meet again !!!!
