This year there are no holes and the talent is Top 10-12. Very good players across the board, just missing 1-2 elite tier players like Cox used to be.

If the results don’t match this year, there’s nowhere else to look.

I have been beating this drum since Free Agency and the draft. Gannon is just as under the microscope as Hurts this season.

Saints really wanted to get rid of him apparently. Could have gotten a 3rd or 4th comp pick for keeping him one year and letting him walk, so there must be some reason they jettisoned him a year earlier for less compensation.

Where are you seeing that. Per Saints reporters they seemed more like they weren't resigning him as they got cap issues and wanted something for him instead of letting him go for free

They don't have cap issues at all at this point. He wanted to be paid like Marshon Lattimore. He is an outstanding nickel. He is far from a top CB in the league. He does have that swagger you want on the team, but Saints have plenty of depth.

He's more of a Safety then CB so he wanted to be paid.

He's been more of their Nickel guy then Safety. The Eagles give him more of an opportunity at that. I don't know why but he should've been playing safety most of the time over Jenkins. Saints were shoehorning him like Teams are trying to do with the Travis Kelce TE types who want WR $$$

CJGJ wasn't in competition for a starting spot with either of them (well, maybe Jenkins in pre-season 2019). Gardner-Johnson has been the starting nickel/slot CB in the Saints' base 4-2-5 defense. He was also good in run defense, lining up in the box in traditional rushing-down situations.

That is one thing the Eagles do need to think about, though -- what role do they want CJGJ to fill. He might be able to walk right in and start as a traditional SS or FS ... but the Saints have never asked him to do that for more than a few plays here and there. He excelled in his slot/nickel/rover role in the Saints' base. Let's see how that translates to another team's scheme. I'm sure the Saints aren't the only team to run a 5-DB base ... don't know if the Eagles do or not.

Eagles system is similar to what he played at Florida under Todd Grantham. He's starting at safety. Also gone are the days of FS/SS as most of these guys can also play CB now. He fits in perfectly what the Eagles play. Those focusing on Chauncey Gardner-Johnson aligning in the slot pre-snap relative to aligning as safety should be looking at the context of it over the stat. The Saints took advantage of his advanced processing ability similar to how Schwartz did for Malcolm Jenkins. You need to look more at his College film on how he'll fit then what he did with the Saints.

Coverage wise Gannon mostly seems to use Quarters and Quarter-Quarter-Half, with some man sprinkled in occasionally. It seems a lot like the role of the Nickel CB and the weak inside DB are similar. I think at times they switch assignments in response to motion too, but hard to be 100% sure. I think that's one of the reasons they have toyed with guys like Josiah Scott at both nickel and S. To me it looks like those 3 roles are close to interchangeable.

We have gotten better on paper at just about every position, especially on the defense. Heck, we even drafted a LB!?!??!

Right, and the refrain from the Gannon believers was that it was the best he could do with the talent he had. IMO, he still underperformed/underwhelmed last season. Just seemed he would rather stick with his schemes and plans instead of trying to maximize the talent and skill of the players he had. The results of that approach speak for themselves.

Well, there's no excuse now for us to not see the defensive mind we keep hearing about and gets him in the possible head coach conversations. He's got better players AND players that specifically fit his concepts. Hurts has a "full year" under his belt and the same coaching staff as last season, so it's widely expected that he show significant progress this season. Same goes for Gannon and the Defense.

Yeah, the report was talks broke down yesterday because Eagles wouldn’t budge from a 5th. Vikings played chicken to see if the Eagles would flinch because they didn’t want to keep him on the 53 and cut someone else, but they did.

So the fact that they might actually get a 4th (but likely won’t because, you know, he’s Reagor) and a 7th thrown in is a big win.

I think I read the conditional would then drop it to a 5th, so not really a factor either way.

Howie is the best Player trader in NFL history - not sure who is 2nd, but Howie Roseman is clearly "THE" guy you talk to if you want action in the NFL.

Bowden JR was also cut. I think MIA said he had attitude issues first year but injuries as well. However he can play WR/RB/QB/TE and return kicks I believe. Maybe its just me but I love having a guy like that around on my roster
