I don't think he's a finished product yet 20 games into his career. But I've heard many pundits praise his decision making (much quicker) and how he basically saved the game for the Eagles, including Baldy.

He has 16 more games to go. As an Eagles fan, I really hope they don't have to draft a QB high next season and pin our hopes on another dart throw. It very well would set us back 2 to 3 years. Go back and look at the top 5 QBs from the 2021 draft - how many of them would you want today over Hurts?
So for the team and as a fan, I want him to succeed. There are signs of improvement.

I'd take most of the top guys over Hurts in this draft. Only one I'm not too fond of the the Ohio State guy CJ Strong. I've been hearing that this is Hurts year to put it all together since SO year of college. This Offense has a hell of a lot of potential similar to Alabama when Hurts was there. He was the reason for it not reaching it's full potential till Tua took over. I'd rather not have the QB be the thing that holds the offense back.

By year 3 now we shouldn't be hoping for improvement. We should be closer to to a finished product and not well lets wait and see. Do I hope he plays well? Sure it Makes its a better team. I just don't see it in him. What winning teams has Hurts beat in his career?

Hurts only gets to the 19 where Brown is already there with ample blockers downfield and green grass. Given the space he might have picked up the 1st down and a lot more. Eagles went three and out on this possession.

c'mon man you are better from this. this is clickbait. No one is denying Hurts doesn't have some things he can work on (including Hurts himself), but to expect any QB, including Mahones on Thursday night, to have a few plays they could have done better at is crazy.

Hurts was better in this game than he was in a lot of games last year, and every single analyst who reviewed the All-22 had to admit this no matter their bias against Hurts. it was week 1 as well. I think most agree you can't expect Hurts to run 14 times a game every week, but we will see how he adjusts if the defense can take that away from him. for now that is how the Eagles won last Sunday

My point is he doesn't make the hot read. His instinct is to still run with the ball. Hurts doesn't seem to trust his arm in tighter windows that is considered still open in the NFL. Tampa Bay's defense and coaches were laughing at him last year because he had no clue what to do if his guy isn't wide open and he still has poor timing on his throws. That is not a great sign for any guy entering his 3rd year in the NFL. Only 1 throw over 15 Yards and that was the deep ball to Brown which might be his best throw in live game action In his career. The problem is consistency. Was he better yesterday then last year? Sure but it's 1 game.

Go watch the QB Class link posted above. The problem with not reading the hot route was that there were a bunch of plays where there either wasn't a hot route, or the scheme took so long to develop that the hot routes weren't available when pressure showed up.

We all know how you feel about Hurts, but the DET game wasn't a good example of those problems. Hurts actually showed a lot of development and made good decisions with the ball. You may end up being right about Hurts, but it's way too early to close the book on him, yet.

Thats on a QB to set up a hot route there. You think Rodgers, Brady, Herbert, Allen, Borrow even Wentz, Wilson or DAK has someone setting up his hot route on the sidelines for them every play? No Hurts is a big boy. Needs to read the defense and adjust. Now the question is do the Coaches trust Hurts to change the play at the line etc? If not thats a problem. I'm not expecting Herbert/Rodgers out there. But I expect a guy in year 3 to be making that adjustment already. This is QB 1O1 stuff here. If he times it right and hits AJ in stride there who knows how many yards he's picking up.

Hurts did look better then he did last year but it's also 1 game vs the Lions. He showed signs of progress last year only to digress later. Hasn't shown anything vs winning teams yet.

I think Sirianni runs Sanders into the ground this year and they don't resign him. Justin Jefferson will eat us alive all game but that is usually never an issue. Cook will also get his. A Muffed Reagor punt and a Cousin's pick 6 is the difference in this game. After the game we all start chanting to Cousins "You like That?"

Everyone wanting to blame Wentz and he's not there this time. Colts biggest issues are an owner who thinks he's Jerruah Jones and gets too involved and has a drug problem. Reich and Ballard will be let go before the season ends or shortly after. Wentz never had a chance in Indy last year as Jim Isray the owner never wanted him to begin with. I've heard he's a hard owner to work for. Josh McDaniels had 2nd thoughts after hearing from friends who worked in that org which is why he pulled out of the job. Isray went and told his team to trade for a QB who's on his last legs may not even last the season in Matt Ryan.

This is the same owner who had Peyton Manning for over and decade and could only mustard 1 SB? Put Peyton on NE and he beats the Giants twice plus has the other SB wins. I don't think Brady ends up winning as many SBs if the roles were reversed. Isray is a major problem in Indy

Because they lost to Jags last year and everyone and their mother blamed Wentz. Since Reich has been in Indy he hasn't done great. Today's performance in JAX was worse then the season final a year ago. Reich since leaving Philly has been a pretty avg coach in Indy.

Wentz was literally the scape goat last year when the game ended. I was basically saying I think Indy has major problems and Wentz was very far down that list of issues they have. He wasn't there this time to blame so who gets it this time? The owner is too involved with what he wants. He's the one who wanted Matt Ryan not Reich and Ballard.

Doug is a great head coach/leader and a bad Co-ordinator.
Frank is a great game planner/co-ordinator and a bad head coach/leader.

We had the perfect system with both of them in those roles.
 
Assuming Gannon's gonna Gannon, I don't know how anyone thinks they have much of a chance unless they win in a shootout. Cousins is just good enough to pick apart this weak, gutless scheme. I have more faith in Hurts keeping pace at this point than I do in the defense slowing any semi-competent QB down. Hope he can prove me wrong, but we haven't seen it yet.
 
Agreed. Our offense is going to need to be drinking red bull before every game as we are going to be challenged if we can't stop some of these offenses. I am hoping they are double covering Jefferson all night tonight.

I tend to agree, but one thing to keep in mind is that even though MIN only gave up 7 points to GB, the Packers were ridiculously efficient on offense (per Warren Sharp) and had a bunch of drives end in the red zone on either downs or turnovers. So I think that the Eagles can definitely be effective on offense, which makes me fairly confident.

Have you heard about Micah Parsons though? That is ALL we are going to hear from them all year. They like to switch up their periodic mottos from "Anyone can run behind this line" to "Dak is better than Wentz" to "Yeah but cutting Amari saved us $20M we needed" now its "The team might suck, but Micah Parsons is THE BEST defensive player in the NFL"

Just bc Bengals suck this year (Super Bowl loss hangover story seems to have not been spoken of for Mr. Burrow at all, strange, but OK) doesn't mean the Cowboys do not haha. We are in a QB-driven league where teams are ALWAYS mining for talent at that position b/c its so important. And also, the Cowboys actually cut this guy, without fear on the final 53 roster, of him being scooped up by a single team, so they could sign him off the practice squad for cheap. This ain't Cooper Foles at QB...
 
As for our game tonight, I feel pretty good about it, but also nervous (maybe that is a little of my wife due in literally a week from today) about the pass rush or lack of pressure. I feel if its a copy of last game we are so toast. Jefferson will get his, I feel, no matter what. He's just that good. If we can shut down Cook, I feel great about a W.

Pretty sure I picked this as an L, so its gonna be a tough sled and really if you look at the schedule, are really only tough opponent for a while. Unless you think "Ders Squad is for real.

You sound like my buddy who HATES Hurts but loves Wentz...

Look, Wentz has proven that he's not nearly as good as his people thought he would be back in the 2016/2017 years. Aside from him not living up to his potential on the field, it's already been shown with two different teams that he's horrible as a leader and bringing a team together. Go read all the positive comments about Matt Ryan from current Indy players who were there with Wentz. They say it's a night and day difference.

Hurts is still young and improving, imo. He has a great supporting cast so let's chill and give him the year and see how it goes.

Detroit is definitely a much improved team this year. There were a few people calling it before the season started and some even took great flyers on them winning the division. Stranger things have happened, that's for sure.

A co-worker buddy of mine was from Michigan and a Detroit sports fan. He passed away last year so in his honor I'm going to have a little soft spot for the Lions this year. Plus its always nice to see teams reverse their bad fortunes.

I do, I was not aware he was protected, so I appreciate the check here. With that said, my overall take remains the same: Jerry doesn't invest much/at all in the backup QB position and I do not expect them to win many games with Cooper Rush as their starter. Nice win against the Bengals though for sure, the defense definitely isn't quitting yet.

I do, I was not aware he was protected, so I appreciate the check here. With that said, my overall take remains the same: Jerry doesn't invest much/at all in the backup QB position and I do not expect them to win many games with Cooper Rush as their starter. Nice win against the Bengals though for sure, the defense definitely isn't quitting yet.

He still had to be cut and subject to waivers to get to the PS to begin with, where 31 other teams didn't think he was worth grabbing.
