2022 Year End Song Draft - Round 20 Today (1 Viewer)

Beach House - Superstar

Had the pleasure of seeing them over the summer in Boston. Im not an overly religious person but hoobooy seeing them in concert certainly felt like it. The amount of euphoria I felt watching them perform was extraordinary.

Early 2010s Synth Pop will never die. nice track. didn't even realize they had a new album.

Been busy at work; I'm jumping in.

First round pick:

When it comes to rap I'm a sucker for two things. The first is Aesop Rock. The second is Danger Mouse. This song just sounds so damn classic.

Danger Mouse & Black Thought - No Gold Teeth

I will be mostly cribbing from my old AF buddy Tony (STONES)'s 2022 playlist that he sent out on Christmas, since I have mostly gotten old and turned my attention to deep diving on old stuff I never explored. So, thank you, STONES!

Not those Stones. Tony. Psych rock superhero.

Anyway, I don't completely have my head in the sand, you can thank me directly for this one

3.3.3 ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Taken By The Hand

You're welcome!

SCS Rd 3: COIN - Chapstick

I tossed in another song off this album at the tail end of the mid-year draft ("Brad Pitt"). It remains one of my favorite albums of 2022 since it's such a good listen from start to finish. There are at least 5 songs off this album that I could have selected, so I decided to draft their most popular one.
Saw them live at Lolla, too. Did not disappoint.

6 minutes, weak sauce

(I won't cry if we hold off on adding my last, might make an apt closer)

3.ee - The Beths - Expert in a Dying Field

Love this one too, right near the top of my list. They're on the Bonnaroo lineup announced today.

Couple heavy hitters coming from me. I love the slow build on this one, it's almost three songs in one. I heard an interview with Alex Turner and he said it was written as a slower ballad but once they got in the studio they couldn't help but play around with some strings (mid section) and the more they played together, the more he wanted to get back to being a big rock band front man, with big guitars and huge moments (final section). Anyway, love this one:

2. NV - Arctic Monkeys - Body Paint

And another band I unapologetically and unironically love. I've seem them in their earlier career stage as a more pop-punk oriented band and I've seen them more recently in their 80s pop/critically acclaimed stage they're currently enjoying. Both are great, just straight up pop smashes all over their discography.

3.NV - Paramore - This is Why

This album didn't grow on me like Tranquility Base did. I should return to it while we're still in the January new release lull.

Thanks. Last question before I look at what's been taken. I owe 3? I see everyone making 2nd rounders. Is this 2 a day?

just started checking your picks to avoid being that guy. So surprised to see Black Midi Dangerous Liaisons taken so soon. What a crazy fun album.

Third round pick.

I'll die on the hill that the peak run of the Mountain Goats albums starts at Zopilote Machine and ends with Tallahassee....however, they keep cranking out new albums like clockwork and almost every one of them has at least one completely anthemic banger of a song on it. In 2022 we get:

The Mountain Goats - Training Montage
