MAD - Artist - Round 4 - #1's have been posted (4 Viewers)

I'm not sure if it's been posted in this thread, but here's the google spreadsheet listing playlists for each of the MAD rounds.
Any reason only 4 people have added their playlist to the google sheet?
I tried and failed. Can't figure out how to post the artist name and then the link, could only do either or.
If anyone wants to add mine:

I did it for you. And my own.
Not sure why, but I read that with this kid's voice in mind.
And I'm the old person. Riiiight.

I finished the #1s. Thanks to everyone who contributed. There weren't as many new finds for me as round 3 but it was good to hear new stuff and get reacquainted with some old faves. I added the Johnny Marr list to the Google Sheet.

RE: R.E.M. Actor Michael Shannon and Chicago guitar player Jason Narducy (who has been in a lot of bands but not as many as Johnny Marr) are touring the US doing R.E.M. covers. I'm a big fan of Shannon so it's pretty cool to see him playing Stipe although not enough to go out and pay $50 to watch a tribute act.

Here they are & not in German

I have a friend playing in this band. They were on Fallon a couple of nights ago, but I missed it.

Gotta make more time for some Yes. I discovered pot and Yes around the same time.

The cream really did rise to the top on your playlist. If I ranked them, Starship Trooper is probably my number 1. Heart of the Sunrise would be really high on my list too.

But I'm especially mad I missed Every Little Thing when it came up. It's a real gem. Kind of lives in the same space as See Emily Play and some old Strawbs. Well, in my head.

Thanks! It was fun exploring their first two albums more for this exercise. Plus they made a bunch of goofy videos for those songs.

I'll be seeing Narducy on May 4 when Bob Mould plays in Philly. Narducy has been Mould's bassist for about 20 years.

This is my first post-pandemic concert.

We're still in the new release dead zone at the turning of the year.

Some sources say last week and some this week but whatever it is, Ringo has a new album and a new hat

I was listening to this one this morning. Pretty solid album. Country suits Ringo well. T. Bone Burnett producing, and the likes of Billy Strings and Alison Krauss on for some songs as well.

Although I didn’t list my favorites for the last few rounds, I thoroughly enjoyed each and added many to my favorites list.

This was probably my favorite countdown of the 3 I participated in so far, even the artists that aren’t necessarily my bag were great to listen and experience.

A few thoughts on specific artists:

Pretty reckless - I knew they would be a favorite going in, but there were plenty of songs I didn’t know well.

REM - obviously we’re all familiar with the band, with differing perspectives on what we like and how we see them, possibly based in part on our slight differences in age. I enjoyed more than I thought I would.

Bee Gees - well known for a handful of songs, their love goes deeper than I thought.

Pearl Jam - I’ll always think of them with my high school and college years but the more recent stuff is better than I thought.

Candlebox - I wore their debut album out but had completely lost track of them since. I’ll add them to my deep dives.

Lord Huron - a group I’ve been wanting to dig deeper and have liked what I’ve heard a lot.

Whitney - probably among the top talented singers ever, definitely of my generation. I’m not a fan but appreciate her talent.

Annie Lenox - I had forgotten how much I like her stuff.

Jeff tweedy - I knew I liked what I knew but I knew little. Thanks for this.

The Clash - a few of their songs would be in my top 100, I knew they were deeper than that but I hadn’t dug in. I’ll do so.

Journey - one of the best known in this list, they did not disappoint!

Ryan Starr - one of the highlights of this round. I don’t know if I had gotten him confused with someone else or just overlooked him before.

Johnny Marr - another star of this round imo.

Yes - another band I respect but hadn’t gotten deep with. Good stuff overall

Built to spill, our lady peace, airborne toxic event, my morning jacket -I enjoyed some of each, could make these into a good Pandora station

Robyn - I only knew her from her SNL stuff, definitely a fun listen

Fred, Ringo, Walkman - I’d put these on in the background while working for sure.

The rest expanded my mind. 👍

Fwiw, regarding my personal deep dives. I learned this week that aside from a few songs I really don’t care for Kansas. Awesome state, great university. there’s a reason they have two HUGE hits. They sold many albums, but most of their stuff is overlooked now.
I moved on to Boston mid week. It’s almost the opposite, a much smaller body of work but I like more of it.

My deep dive experience was similar. Haken was a bit too weird and a bit too prog for me. Going from sounding like a pop boy band to hard, growly death metal within a song was a bit too much for me. Not all of these are going to end up well or with a playlist.

Thinking 80s thrash with the next artist, but haven't decided yet. I'll post in the theme thread for Pip when I do. ;)

An Alison Krauss one was on this very countdown…. :)

I think I have everybody updated. I added what I saw in the thread, then loaded what I had for everybody else. If you had a playlist and wanted that on the spreadsheet instead, just switch it out - no harm no foul. Here is who I loaded tonight that I didn't see in the thread yet.

Excellent work.
The only Robyn song missing is one i thought you found originally (Teddybears).
But great stuff

Correction. Its the “I blame coco” one. If Stings “daughter” cant get on spotify, somethings wrong

Cardiac Arrest is in the playlist. I thought there was 1 from you and 1 Whitney song that weren't on Spotify, so I thought the 30 songs from each of those on the playlists was the correct number. Let me know if/what I missed.
