Bulls at 5-13 with the following upcoming schedule:

@ Celtics, vs. Bucks, vs. Pelicans, @Bucks, vs. Nuggets, @Heat, @Heat, @76ers, vs. Lakers

It’s looking ugly.
Might be great news for the organization - a 7-19 team approaching December 15th or whatever the big date is for trading new signings is not a terrible place to be. It'll force the team to actually commit to rebooting this silly iteration of the team.

Yes, agreed. Karnisovas made a lot of anti-tanking statements when he was hired (wasn’t/isn’t that the Denver way too?) but it’s really hard to make a case that a rebuild shouldn’t occur.
:ROFLMAO: Rebuild is so FN late. Derozan was a legit MVP candidate at one time. Lavine's now got an albatross of a contract. Vucevic was resigned for whatever reason (I guess to save face? LOL. Trade is sunk cost pal. Deal with it)

They've been a bad team since Lonzo Ball went down. Which I think was what, January 2021? We're talking almost 3 ****ING years ago now.

They aren't getting jack for what's on that roster (and money owed) now.
January 2022 but, yes, trade value has declined. Still, though, I think they can still get at least 3 or 4 first rounders by trading LaVine, DeRozan and Caruso. Probably late, protected first rounders but that's better than nothing.
That's probably realistic. Likely deal that turns into a 2nd rounder or two. I don't think they're getting much of anything for Lavine. Maybe someone like D'Angelo Russell? (But is he someone you really want to rebuild with?)

Caruso probably has the most trade value. I could see a first or two for him given his contract and defense.

Derozan should have been dealt no later than the 2022 offseason when he was coming off his best season as a pro and was a MVP candidate for the season's first half (finished 10th in voting after the Bulls' season cratered) but was obvious post-Lonzo the Bulls weren't a good team.

The Nuggets were kind of weird and didn't have a great uber-tanking opportunity and they made some decent vets for young flyers and picks in the post George Karl years (they dumped every decent vet that wasn't tied down other than Gallinari and Wilson Chandler for picks or young guys like Will Barton). They hovered in no-mans land for most of three seasons after going 57-25 in 12-13 (George Karl got fired that offseason after winning COY), but for at least the first of those seasons, they thought they were going to be decent coming off that 57 win season, and they were making tons of future-focused trades by the middle of the second no-mans-land season. By the third bad season, they had hit on a few draft picks (Harris, Nurkic, Jokic, Murray) and were already on the rise.

Ultimately, they got unlucky with their descent from 2nd seed to 30-something win team with Iguodala being a turd and Gallo tearing his knee, then got lucky with their ascent with a series of great picks and bad moves by other teams that led to picking Harris/Nurkic/Jokic/Murray and getting Malone to be the HC after stupidly giving Brian Shaw the keys for two years. The Nuggets did some smart things in there, but ultimately, they were right-time-right-place to put the team together.
I think their biggest credit is seeing what they had in Jokic before he became what he is today and committing to him by trading away Nurkic. Malone having the vision to make him the centerpiece of the team was pretty impressive foresight considering no one has ever seen anything like him.
Chris Finch (now Minnesota's HC) was a big part of that as well. Jokic's rookie season was kind of a lost season that was stuck between the post-Melo years and the pre-current team with vets that were good support on bad teams and young players that hadn't figured it out yet, but Jokic still played a bunch (started 55 games) but they hadn't figured out what they had or what to do with him. Chris Finch was the offensive coordinator in 16-17 (from what I understood at the time) and he implemented a lot of the dribble handoff/high post game that they have been working off of since. Jokic's rookie year he had two games of more than 5 assists, in his second year, he averaged 5apg (some of that was shrinking Mudiay's role because he sucked, but most of it was an organizational realization).

Side tangent on Jokic - I read a little article on ESPN a few weeks ago (here) that had this amazing bit of information that really makes you love Jokic just a little more:

FOLLOWING THE NBA draft, Jokic was in sunny Santa Barbara, California, to spend a month at P3 Applied Sports Science, a training center that specializes in advanced athlete assessment.

On the first day of his evaluation in August 2014, the readings were historically disappointing. Jokic recorded what was then -- and still is -- the lowest standing vertical leap of any NBA player they had ever assessed, a group that is now more than 1,000 players. Seventeen inches. Not even a foot and a half.

P3 officials, including founder Dr. Marcus Elliott, weren't sure what to make of this poorly conditioned second-round pick. Would he even make the league? Would he have any sort of career at all? After that assessment, Elliott approached Jokic and asked if he wanted to reserve any court time while he was at P3 to work on his basketball game.

"No, no," Jokic replied. "No basketball. Basketball is good."

Then Jokic patted his paunch of a stomach.

"This" -- his body -- "not so good," Jokic responded.

Elliott had never before -- and, he believes, never since -- had any NBA player not pick up a basketball during their time at P3.
I love Joker and he is great. But he probably will limit his all time upside because he just doesn’t care that much.

I think a decent amount of his don't care attitude is just shtick
He's definitely not maniacal like Jordan or Kobe and from the outside looking in, it seems like he values other things in life more than basketball, but he clearly works as hard as anybody in the NBA. I also kind of assume that he'll retire in like 5 or 6 years and we'll pretty much never hear from him again.

The last time DeAndre Jordan had at least 21 points in a game (what he scored last night) was October 10th, 2018.

If somebody had told me that Jokic, Murray, and Gordon were out and KCP and MPJ combined to go 6-27 from the field, I would have guessed that the Nuggets lost by 50.

Pistons lose by 19 at home to second worst team in the league. Can't wait to get the 5th pick again.

I’m sure it’s not much consolation but the 5th pick might not be much different than the 1st. Most mocks have Ron Holland at 1 but his G-League stats have been bad. Lots of question marks near the top.

When I saw the line before the game was Clips -14, I knew it was a rest day for the majority of the starters due to it being the 2nd game of a back to back. To see this morning that they won, was just amazing.

Clippers losing to former Clippers Reggie Jackson and Deandre Jordan is peak Clippers.
Would be rough to be a Clipper fan but they don’t exist as far as I can tell.
I'm here. Been a fan since the early 90's. We know not to get our hopes up... ever.
Hello! Watching TheSystem in Philly past few seasons made me feel very bad things. I am sorry and hope it’s a short stint.

Heavy rumor flying that Mark Cuban is selling the Mavs to the Adelson family.
And he still keeps control of basketball operations. Nice deal for him. $3.5B.
He purchased for $285m in 2000. Fabulous return for him.
I believe that he sold a minority stake that suggests the entire franchise valuation is $3.5 billion, so it’s unclear how much he actually made off the deal. Which is not to say that it isn’t a good business deal, just saying.

Edit: Sorry, it’s a majority stake. Seems like it will be similar to ishbia’s setup in Phoenix.

I'd assume that it is somewhere between the $1.9B of stock she sold and $1.785B (51% of $3.5B). So he made at least $1.5B from his purchase price.

Still, surprising he would sell any of it. Dude has plenty of loot already and seems to really love it.

From what I read, the Adelson's were adding cash on hand to the stock, which probably puts the purchase north of $2 billion. I don't know what % they are getting though, if its just 51% or something more....

GSW-SAC is the greatest double digit game in In-Season Tournament history.

The snark didn't age well.

The In-Season Tournament was too big for the Warriors
Couldn’t happen to a cooler group of guys.
Just watched the highlights and wish I had caught the game. I would have enjoyed seeing the Warriors stylin' and profilin' their way to blowing a 20+ point lead and not only not making the tournament but losing the game entirely.

Kings are just fun to watch. Monk and Fox are both very difficult to contain off the dribble but in different ways. Monk's game reminds me of Earl Monroe with all of the spin moves. Fox is just pure speed and quickness, more like Derrick Rose was.

Rose was more explosive at the rim, I think, but Fox has better touch on his shots. That has extended out to three point range this year, where he’s shooting pretty decently on a high volume. If he keeps that up through the year (somewhat unlikely given his history but not impossible) he should be on the back end of some MVP ballots.

When do the Bulls blow it up? That has to be one of the worst teams that thought they’d be good in a long while.

Hopefully some time between December 15 (when many newly signed players contracts are tradeable for salary matching reasons) and the trade deadline.

We’ll see though. Maybe they decide to only trade LaVine and retool around that.
I've always liked Lavine more than most. I wish there was a deal for him with Sacramento that made sense, but I don't see it.

Being a soccer fan, I have been long accustomed to goal differential being a tie breaker for tournaments. For the most part it works for a low scoring sport like soccer.

What did you guys think of using point differential as a tie breaker for the NBA Cup? I have been reading that a lot of players were uncomfortable with the concept when the had to use it last night to advance. Would there be a better tie breaker that can be used?

In softball tournaments, we always used runs allowed as the first tie breaker after head to head so teams wouldn’t run up the score for run differential. I’m sure they could do something similar with points allowed instead of point differential.

My idea is point differential through the first 3 quarters.

Would there be any fear of teams taking nearly the full shot clock almost every possession in the 4th quarter or when ever they feel like the game is in hand, to limit the other teams chances to score to keep the opponents score down?
